Vancouver 2010 Jan 09, 2004, 10:04 PM Ever thought that researchers are wasting your country's money determining things that seemed to be obvious? Well, here's a thread to share all those riddiculous research "breakthroughs" -- whether they actually wasted valuable money or you just thought up one.
Here's one to start people off:
Researchers Determine that One Doctor in a Group of Five Will Always Disagree With the Other Four.
Gingerbread Man Jan 10, 2004, 07:21 AM Yeah, a guy in a Melbourne University spent something like $50,000 in a quest to determine that Jesus was gay. All taxpayer dollars.
Ankka Jan 10, 2004, 11:59 AM Why'd he do so?

The Person Jan 13, 2004, 05:46 AM Somebody said that it's not hydrogen there's most of in the Universe, but stupidity.
But we get to laugh at it.
Doesn't seem the taxpayer's money is completely wasted.
allhailIndia Jan 13, 2004, 09:01 AM Research has comprehensively shown that people who are right handed will use their right hand more than ninety percent of time for doing anything. Research on the left handed people is on the way.;)

Well, 9 out of 10 Americans agree that out of ten Americans, one will always disagree with the other 9.
allhailIndia Jan 14, 2004, 09:04 AM Comprehensive studies have shown that 47.3% of the time, researchers add a fake decimal digit, just to sound more accurate and believable.

I know. I'ts just 99.999% wasted. Our ability to laugh at the wasted money thwarted all their efforts to be completely efficient at wasting money.

Actually, 48.3 percent of all statistics are made up, while 183.3% of those statistics are wrong.
Vancouver 2010 Jan 14, 2004, 10:23 PM Not to forget that 97.832% of all statistics, 19 times out of 20, have been proven to contain the phrase "19 times out of 20" somewhere in them.
allhailIndia Jan 15, 2004, 12:25 AM 53.32% of people polled on whether or not they were a statistic said maybe.

Gogf Jan 16, 2004, 01:41 PM allhailIndia: Research has actually shown that 85.4000% of the time scientists add an extra zero (or multiple extra zeros) to sound more accurate.
allhailIndia Jan 17, 2004, 04:50 AM Aaah, but only 33.23000 % of all scientists put an odd number of zeroes, while the rest are still figuring out where to put the zeroes

SoCalian Jan 20, 2004, 03:02 AM Comprehansive reseach has shown that reproduction is neccesary for the continuation of a species.
allhailIndia Jan 20, 2004, 09:06 AM A detailed research and analysis of 100 year trends have shown that average stupidity of people is more or less unrelated to anything else.
Chairman Meow Jan 20, 2004, 11:36 AM Research has shown that pi is 3 +- 0.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375 10582097494459230781640628620899862803482534211706 79821480865132823066470938446095505822317253594081 28481117450284102701...

MattII Feb 02, 2004, 05:20 AM Biros don't work in space so the US researchers spent 10 years and 12 billion dollars on a pen that would. The Russians used a pencil. Years of study in the 80's proved that bumble bees can't fly.
