View Full Version : Turns until tech bug - 1.13 and ?
planetfall Jan 13, 2004, 08:43 AM First off I am not sure how to duplicate this. It was noticed in
1.13 and I can give screen shots.
Problem: F1 screen and lower right hand window both say
1 turn to tech, but sometimes takes two.
First noticed in a modern era tech and was able to get two
saves of two consequent turns both saying " 1 turn " to tech.
In this case it was tech required for Modern Armor.
One year with 24XX gold, it said turn til completion. Cash flow
was -500. Next turn, one turn til completion, cash flow was
- 4[5/6]X.
Saves will be available if think helpful. This was as Germany under
fascism about year 1884.
Don't know about you but I hate to waste 400 shields.

Chieftess Jan 13, 2004, 12:26 PM Of course saves are helpful! :) Kind of hard to see what's wrong without one.
planetfall Jan 13, 2004, 04:08 PM Ok, will post tonight or tomorrow.
Actually will take tomorrow. I want to check to see what effect 1.15 has on the sav's.
Hopefully it is only a problem with 1.13 but I am not totally hopefully.

Aggie Jan 13, 2004, 04:47 PM As suggested by wilbill, I post this into this thread as well.
Description of the problem
During a Scientific Golden Age I actually do not gain turns towards the next tech. The game tells you so, but you end up with the same research time.
Observed result
I'm currently playing a game in which I am constantly ahead in the tech race. At one point I got a scientific leader. Given the fact that I liked to remain the most advanced, I decided to go for a scientific golden age. Immediately my research for Education went from 8 to 6 turns.
However...three turns before I would get the tech I pressed <end turn> and noticed that in the next turn I still needed 3 turns! Even worse: I upped science from 70% to 90% and that didn't help :( Later, at the turn that I expected the tech, I didn't come and I had to wait another turn
So at the end took me 8 turns instead of 6. Then I decided to go for Banking. I was promised to get it in 6 turns, but again it took me 8 (same sequence of events)!!
Steps to reproduce
EDIT: Here is the save (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/William_of_the_Dutch_demi2,_280_AD1.zip) .
Just choose to have a scientific GA in Amsterdam and play along. Not much MM and diplo needed that would interupt the science tempo imho.
planetfall Jan 13, 2004, 05:42 PM Aggie,
Great, that reminds me of another "bug" I have not verified. I added Internet,
F11 shows education above 90% but tech turns take the same and science numbers barely budged at the same research %. Again, I need to revisit the saves to verify the numbers and wanted to do that before entered a bug.
Nice to know I was not the only one with the problem.

watorrey Jan 14, 2004, 12:37 PM Here is another where Flight is suppose to be discovered in 1 turn during a scientific age of discovery (or whatever it is called) But at the start of the next turn it is still 1 turn away.
This is only a problem when using a SGL. As soon as the SGL effects expired, the problem goes away.

It appears there is some problem with ajusting the science slider to a lesser % while researching. If it is left alone from the start of research i believe it works. But it shouldn't act the way it does.
Aggie Jan 14, 2004, 01:41 PM FYI: I also adjusted the slider, like watorrey did.
planetfall Jan 14, 2004, 03:27 PM Seem to recall mine was also in SGA and did move the slider.
I will verify later this week.

Aggie Jan 15, 2004, 11:37 AM I went back to the save that I posted in this thread and tried the following:
- No scientists in the cities (this was easy, I had no scientists!!)
- No moving of the science slider
All I did was:
- Trigger the SGA
- Press end turn as long as needed.
Before I triggered the SGA, I would take 8 turns. Once triggered only 6 turns were predicted, but still it took me 8 turns to get it!
So in my case both the science slider AND the scientists didn't have any impact on the fact that my SGA was wasted :(
planetfall Jan 17, 2004, 09:01 AM Here is the mini box images from problem game.
planetfall Jan 17, 2004, 09:12 AM sav for 1882 is now available.
Naming convention:
<level><bc/ad><yr><notes>
thus: monarchy difficulty leve ... AD .. 1882
I use BB for bc and DD for ad so file name sorts list bc and then ad and not ad and then bc.
