Well things are going quite good.. I've got 3 other Civs on my borders. The English who I have had peace with for many years (even tho they have an annoying tendency to try and move there Settlers through my territories.. but I've taken 2 cities from them through Culture so it kinda makes up for it..) The Germans who seem friendly enough.. I just hope they don't get unfriendly since they are on my 'Siberia' Lots of Jungle and very lil in the way of major cities to defend from. And then there are my friends the Babylonians. There military is weaker and we've already fought one war over the fine city of Bampur (I needed more Iron deposits.. what can I say...) and Babylon (*shrug* it was kinda along the way to Bampur?) which was followed up by a nice period of peace.

Then I made a startling discovery! I had no Horses.. and the Babylonians did! Well.. I am kind of worried about the Germans so maybe I'll try and trade for them.. hmm.. nope.. no luck there..

Looks like I may have to go to war.. I positioned my forces (including my single army) along the border and prepared my people for the oncoming struggle. We had limited war aims.. the capture of Uruk and Akkad.. both sources of Horses.. and while we were at it.. the city of Nineveh was added to the list.. It was stuck behind our lines since we had taken Babylon.. But just as our final pieces were moving into position.. the borders of Bampur had just expanded due to the culture which was practically flowing out of the new temple and library.. and wouldn't you know it.. we now had a source of Horses... hmm.. war was averted.. for now.. those Germans are still looking a lil scarey on my exposed flank... besides.. I had a nice trade treaty (2 luxuries of mine for 2 of theres) with the Babylonians..

But fast forward 15 years.. the trade treaty has been disolved.. and the Babylonians want 400 Gold plus my luxuries to bring it back into play. PLUS they're trading with the English.. a people with whom I have no issues.. but if there people were to become a lil more unhappy.. and join my side.. would that be so bad? And guess whose marvelous scientists (they need a raise I think) just developed Calvary? Yup.. that would be me.. the Persians..

So now as I prepare for this new assault.. the following are my war plans..

1. Capture Uruk & Akkad - Akkad has more horses for my use and is also on the way to Samarra. Uruk is a nice defensive point which would help secure my flank a lil better.
2. Capture Kish - The new enemy capital.. It is right next to Akkad and I am sure the capture will cause my enemy some confusion.
3. Capture Nineveh - This appears to be the major source of Spice for the Babylonians.. and will make a fine addition to our empire. The spice will also make our people much more agreeable when it comes to the war..
4. Capture Lagash & Samarra - Lagash is much to close to the city of Samarra to be left in the hands of the Babylonians. And Samarra is the source of their ivory. Once it is in our hands our people will have as much ivory as their little hearts desire..
Optional 5. Capture Ashur & Shuruppak - If we have forces available we will continue on from Uruk to capture Ashur which is on the way to Shurruppak which contains the only Saltpepper source I have been able to locate for the Babylonians.. keeping this resource out of there hands will make any future war efforts that much easier. The capture of these two cities will also mean that the Babylonians lose there foothold on my western flank and will only be able to reach me from the south (which is where my main attacking force will be resting.. and waiting..)

At this point we will rest and offer the Babylonians peace.. if they so desire.. and if not.. make new plans..

I Love this Game!@#

Peace has come to our continent. After an exhaustive war we can finally declare peace as the last Babylonian city on our contient has been taken over. Our initial limited objectives were quickly replaced with a full scale assault because:

1. During the war I signed Mutal Defense Treaties with the Russians, English and Zulu's. They both declared war on the Babylonians. Whoops! I wanted all that land for myself.. so I had to take it before they could get there to take some for themselves..

2. Our forces were annihilating the enemy. During the entire assault we suffered very few casualties.

So.. I now control the land which was formerly owned by the Babylonians.. and seeing as how it's 3AM (I hate when I forget to watch the clock.. ugh I'm gonna be hurtin tommorow.. or today as the case may be)

And btw.. those germans I was worried about? They showed there true colors.. the bastards demanded a technology to keep from going to war with me... I paid them off.. this time.. now that my army is free though.. I know a certain border that it's going to go visit...

*grin* I already planned it out.. capture three german cities and Berlin will be mine... tempting.. they better not piss me off.. ;)

Nice job... similar thing just happened to me. I was sharing a continent with the Egyptians peacefully. We even had a free movement pact and lotsa trade going on. No problems really except that they kept building cities inside my territory (on all the cruddy spots). I decided to just put up with it for a while until they landed right near one of my fur colonies and built a city in the tundra within striking distance of my capitol. Seeing as I had a number of Knights on the west near their civilization and had just built my first cavalry unit on the east (my half of the continent) I decided to take back the city and see if I had enough forces to take out the rest of their cities cluttered around the interior of my borders. Well, things went better than expected and I was able to destroy about four of their cities with my Knights right off the bat. I started pushing towards their capital city using my nights and letting my legionarres bring up the rear. In the meantime I'd shifted all my rear cities to producing cavalry units and they were being sent to the front. They arrived just in the nick of time. The egyptians started sending down masses of war chariots and I started losing Knights. I had no choice but to back off to protect my cities and wait until my cavalry arrived. Once there however, the tide of the battle quickly shifted back to me again. I pretty much took out all their chariots (they seemed to have kept none in reserve) and my steady stream of cavalry units marched closer and closer to their capitol. It took a long time to conquer Thebes... fortunately I'd decided not to raze on of their cities and could send my cavalry and army back to it to heal. At this point I've more than achived my original goals (getting them out of my territory) and have decided to bust a pathway to the opposite side of the continent and capture any resources along the way. I'm a republic so I"m not sure how much longer I can keep up the war. My citizens are getting pretty pissy as it is and growth is close to nil as a result of me having to up my luxuries and provide many entertainers.

Once I take out the Egyptians I should have the continent to myself. I'm hoping the rest of the world won't try and invade while I'm busy...

I had a much better time with the Babylonians in my game last night, though not nearly as exciting is yours sounds. When I first met them we both only had 3 cities, and I was out exporing with an archer. I find them rather effective against just a warrior. :D

I conquered one of their 3 cities, then demanded another one, gold, and gold/turn for peace, and they gave it to me (those silly Babylonians!). When I got my Immortals the choice was clear, conquer a city, demand another for peace and wait 20 turns until they'd built another 2 cities...I managed to populate the entire south of my continent (mostly all areas that I'd never deign to build a city in the first place being from the fertile north) by conquest and diplomacy. Finally their last city (hemmed in by me and the Aztecs) was on the tip of a frozen pennisula way down below the Antartic Circle. It was sad, but since the Babylonians had nothing to offer (obviously showing a lack of infrastructure and support means) I decided to forcibly add them to my Empire, for the good of the children.

Now I have to decide if I want my culture to conquer the Aztecs or if I want to dispose of them with this newfound wonder, gunpowder? There is a million screaming jaguar warriors along my border, though my immortals are itching for a true foe, we've been peaceful (though they had made numerous minor incursions into/through my territory) up until this point, but now that I have furs from my own sources I see no reason why we need to share our continent with man-beasts and demon worshipers (I practice a devout monotheism...)

Death to the Aztecs or have them embrace our higher culture?

Hmmmmmm.
