Well things are going quite good.. I've got 3 other Civs on my borders. The English who I have had peace with for many years (even tho they have an annoying tendency to try and move there Settlers through my territories.. but I've taken 2 cities from them through Culture so it kinda makes up for it..) The Germans who seem friendly enough.. I just hope they don't get unfriendly since they are on my 'Siberia' Lots of Jungle and very lil in the way of major cities to defend from. And then there are my friends the Babylonians. There military is weaker and we've already fought one war over the fine city of Bampur (I needed more Iron deposits.. what can I say...) and Babylon (*shrug* it was kinda along the way to Bampur?) which was followed up by a nice period of peace.
Then I made a startling discovery! I had no Horses.. and the Babylonians did! Well.. I am kind of worried about the Germans so maybe I'll try and trade for them.. hmm.. nope.. no luck there..
Looks like I may have to go to war.. I positioned my forces (including my single army) along the border and prepared my people for the oncoming struggle. We had limited war aims.. the capture of Uruk and Akkad.. both sources of Horses.. and while we were at it.. the city of Nineveh was added to the list.. It was stuck behind our lines since we had taken Babylon.. But just as our final pieces were moving into position.. the borders of Bampur had just expanded due to the culture which was practically flowing out of the new temple and library.. and wouldn't you know it.. we now had a source of Horses... hmm.. war was averted.. for now.. those Germans are still looking a lil scarey on my exposed flank... besides.. I had a nice trade treaty (2 luxuries of mine for 2 of theres) with the Babylonians..
But fast forward 15 years.. the trade treaty has been disolved.. and the Babylonians want 400 Gold plus my luxuries to bring it back into play. PLUS they're trading with the English.. a people with whom I have no issues.. but if there people were to become a lil more unhappy.. and join my side.. would that be so bad? And guess whose marvelous scientists (they need a raise I think) just developed Calvary? Yup.. that would be me.. the Persians..
So now as I prepare for this new assault.. the following are my war plans..
1. Capture Uruk & Akkad - Akkad has more horses for my use and is also on the way to Samarra. Uruk is a nice defensive point which would help secure my flank a lil better.
2. Capture Kish - The new enemy capital.. It is right next to Akkad and I am sure the capture will cause my enemy some confusion.
3. Capture Nineveh - This appears to be the major source of Spice for the Babylonians.. and will make a fine addition to our empire. The spice will also make our people much more agreeable when it comes to the war..
4. Capture Lagash & Samarra - Lagash is much to close to the city of Samarra to be left in the hands of the Babylonians. And Samarra is the source of their ivory. Once it is in our hands our people will have as much ivory as their little hearts desire..
Optional 5. Capture Ashur & Shuruppak - If we have forces available we will continue on from Uruk to capture Ashur which is on the way to Shurruppak which contains the only Saltpepper source I have been able to locate for the Babylonians.. keeping this resource out of there hands will make any future war efforts that much easier. The capture of these two cities will also mean that the Babylonians lose there foothold on my western flank and will only be able to reach me from the south (which is where my main attacking force will be resting.. and waiting..)
At this point we will rest and offer the Babylonians peace.. if they so desire.. and if not.. make new plans..
