I've installed both Civ3 and PtW and also the latest patches for them.

And yet I still can't fire up the game without it asking for the CD to be in the tray.

Quite annoying, am I missing something obvious here?!

Welcome to CFC.
This isn't really a Conquests bug report and might be better placed in the General forum.
But, no, you're not missing anything. You have to have the disk in to play the Civ games.

Sorry about that, I've spent so long browsing around I didn't realise I'd gone into the Conquests area.

Embarrassing schoolboy newbie error ;-)

Thanks for that though!

Moved to the Civ3 PTW bug reports thread. BTW, you should have the CD in the drive anyway. Works as intended. ;)

The good thing, though, is that you do not need both cds to play PTW. This means, for me at least, lending the first CD to friends to hook them into Civ! Then they buy the bargain Gold edition with PTW. That strategy have been successful in two out of two attempts! I should get freebies from Atari!

Cd 'protection' only hurts legitamite buyers.

Pirates are running your software without even needing the CD in the first place.

If it wasnt illegal, Id be tempted to get my hands on it just so I could play without the damn CD in the drive all the time.

And I legally own Vanilla PTW and CC thanks ;)

If you have bought it, I think you have the right to remove the CD-check for YOUR OWN USE, legally, within most jurisdictions. If you own it and downloaded a no-CD patch, that distrubution was probably illegal, but not the installation you did.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

@Stevo

Do a complete uninstall, reinstall the game and apply the 1.27f US patch. I can't guarantee that it works, but I know for sure what dont works, and that is trying to install PTW 1.27f US patch on top of PTW 1.27f UK patch. You have to uninstall the game if you installed the UK patch.

Just use da CD. Unless you're really clumsy, you can easily re-find it. It sucks when other people from my family move it though...
