View Full Version : New unit: Galleass
aaglo Jan 19, 2004, 04:43 PM Hi!
This ship was used in the mediterranean between 1400-1800 AD. It was designed to take advantages of both galeon (sails) and galley (oars). Though they could out-maneuver the galeon, they were no match for them in the firepower.
UPDATE!
This unit can now be downgraded to have an arrow attack (useful for fantasy scenarios).

[Edit]: Oh, I forgot again (like with cog, trireme, siege ship, siege tower, numenor ship, ballista, egyptian galley&galleass... :mischief: ) : Thanks for all people participating in the design & development process. Thanks for all the ideas - this is your creation too :)
And a nice sunset picture.

Gogf Jan 19, 2004, 08:14 PM It's done! I like your choice for the image on the sails. This is great! It's going in the ICW!

:goodjob:
Redking Jan 19, 2004, 10:34 PM That's really a spectacular job.
Would you consider doing some more hypothetical/fantasy units like your Numenor ship?
Some hypothetical asiatic age-of-discovery-type vessels would be useful, as would some extra oddities to give to later era African and Amerindian civs (what I've done with your Numenor).
Again, superb work.
aracuan Jan 19, 2004, 11:51 PM marvellous unit!trully amazing!it reminds me the byzantine dromon however,so i will replace the dromon with this, since its coming much more close to the original one.Waiting for an improved ironclad with oars next! Thanks aagglooooooooooo:goodjob:
aaglo Jan 19, 2004, 11:56 PM Would you consider doing some more hypothetical/fantasy units like your Numenor ship?

(May be exept the waves in death animation. ;) ) :D
Gogf Jan 20, 2004, 05:31 AM I disagree, I love Aaglo's fading death animations, waves included.
hetairoi22 Jan 20, 2004, 01:32 PM Looks superb, Aaglo!! A flawless masterpiece!! Keep it up! :)
And, if your taking requests ;) how about a Ship-of-the-Line? Even larger and more ferocious than this one, with lots of cannons etc. etc.? :D Would be cool to give to northern European countries, so that they might have something as bad-ass as this for their age of Discovery... :)
sealman Jan 20, 2004, 02:36 PM what is the difference between this unit and the "heavy"?
aaglo Jan 20, 2004, 02:40 PM Weight?
Size?
Strength?
Firepower?
No. of sails?
Symbol in the sails?
Paint job?
No. of oars?
mrtn Jan 20, 2004, 04:01 PM aaglo, looking good!
@hetairoi22: buy C3C. You get a SotL there. ;)

CaptainCivFreak Jan 20, 2004, 05:34 PM Nice, my hard drive crashed and I have yet to install civ, but when I do, I'll download it :D
Karhgath Jan 20, 2004, 05:41 PM Hetaroi: BTW there already is a Ship-of-the-line in C3C if you want one right now, in Napoleanic Conquest.

Colonel Kraken Jan 21, 2004, 08:56 AM Wow, just blow me over! Move aside CK's old junk; here's the new and improved! I must say that is fantastic stuff.
How long does it take you to make something like that? Just curious. ;)
Cheers,
CK
aaglo Jan 21, 2004, 08:59 AM How long does it take?
Well, I had some stuff already made (sails, ect.)...
I'd say something like
- modelling from scratch: 5-10 hours
- making all animations: 4-6 hours
hetairoi22 Jan 21, 2004, 11:25 AM @mrtn & Karhgath: Cool! Didn't know that. I do have C3C, but haven't had time to play very much... :( Hope to have time soon, though.

aaglo Apr 03, 2004, 08:49 AM Does it? I haven't noticed... :hmm:
But don't you think also, that u is quite powerless to do any resizing? :p
tjedge1 Apr 03, 2004, 12:49 PM Who is u?

jzsf Apr 05, 2004, 08:07 AM Well it is about the same size of the battleship... a small resizing can worth it...
