embryodead Jan 21, 2004, 12:27 AM animated preview
Drift Jan 21, 2004, 01:10 AM Embryodead, my saviour! This is something I really needed (and have been waiting for ever since that preview thread)
Civ-colors is a minor problem, though. Palette looks like there are no candidates for civ color area (apart from the cleaver, which would look silly). If so, he won't have them and I use him anyway. :)
Supa Jan 21, 2004, 02:26 AM Great needed unit.
Thanks :)
aaglo Jan 21, 2004, 03:30 AM Nice cleaver! :D
that looks quite undeadish, man
AK47 Jan 21, 2004, 04:17 AM Great unit !

mrtn Jan 21, 2004, 11:00 AM Yucky, but in a nice way. :D
Isembard Jan 21, 2004, 12:14 PM Looks great :) But where is the butcher from whom he took the cleaver, hmmm...
tjedge1 Jan 21, 2004, 01:02 PM He ate him maybe? Great work embryodead.:thumbsup:
utahjazz7 Jan 21, 2004, 01:23 PM Ha! That's great.

For some reason cleavers are almost the standard weapon for zombies... don't know why, they just are...
TheMorpheus Jan 21, 2004, 04:35 PM Uuuuahhh, that rocks :D :goodjob:
spincrus Jan 22, 2004, 05:40 AM Cool unit! I can smell him from here.
Vuldacon Jan 25, 2004, 02:03 AM Oh Yes...Very Nice unit embryodead...Love the Swinging, Dead Left Arm and his Cleaver Action. Great Flavor Unit!
:goodjob:
gorn Jan 25, 2004, 03:09 PM I just thought of something ...
Any chance of getting some worker-type animations for this guy? Might be nice to have some ZOMBIES slaving away in my fields until I decide to attack someone.
Just a single generic working animation would probably be enough, I would think.
I'm planning to use the Zulu King unit as a witchdoctor with the Enslave ability -- producing Zombies!!!
embryodead Jan 25, 2004, 04:12 PM hmm why I didn't think of this? :) I'll do some workers anims this week.
gorn Jan 25, 2004, 04:17 PM Woo woo!!
I THOUGHT it was a pretty damn good idea!! Looking forward to new anim's! Thanx!

Christmas comes twice a year it seems. I had already planned using a palette-edited version of Kindred's Gobling Worker as a Zombie Worker. :)
Vuldacon Jan 26, 2004, 11:15 AM Here are some new sounds for embryodead's Zombie.
AttackA, AttackB, Fidget, Death and Victory.
I included the adjusted .INI
The Default.flc was used for the Victory and works well because Zombies do not jump up in the air or really show "happiness" ...lol.
The Sounds are game tested and work fairly well...depending on your settings, AttackB will occasionally overlap the Death Sound during the battle when the Zombie Dies abrupty but basically OK.
yes, I know Zombies basically do not utter sounds but give it a try...you can always adjust what you do and do not want.
Use as you like........Enjoy.

...BTW embryodead, any chance of adding toward a 10% increase in size to the Zombie? ... Fun unit, Thanks!
achs2007 Jan 26, 2004, 12:17 PM wowwwwwwwwwwwwww
embryodead Jan 26, 2004, 12:20 PM thanks, sounds are great, especially the figdet one
Is he too small? I don't really want to re-render the whole unit just for 10% which will be hardly noticeable and I matched him to civ3 swordsman.
Vuldacon Jan 26, 2004, 01:08 PM No...he is not too small...just that the detals would be easier to see if he was 5 to 8% larger. guess I have been playing with too many Giant Units lately  ...I have giving the Zombie to the Zulus and they Love him ehehehee.
Duke Togo Jan 27, 2004, 03:23 PM What I really want to know is, will it eat my brains? A proper zombie always eats brains!
Mr. Do Jan 27, 2004, 06:00 PM Only if their master commands them to! At least, that's what Anya said in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And that's the definitive guide to everything.
SoCalian Jan 28, 2004, 11:17 PM Very nice. I certain we could use this in LOTM.
Blasphemous Jan 29, 2004, 06:54 AM Oooh... Nuh-ice! Good job ebryodead!
This inspires me to make a mod for C3C that adds magical and fantastic stuff to the real world in accordance with the legeneds in real history (as in, you'd get dragons in the middle ages and hydras guring the mid-ancient age, etc), and in the modern age some later futuristic techs and units...
I'm notorious for losing motivation pretty fast when I work on my own, so if anyone wants to take up this project with me, write me a PM please.
PS.
I also had an idea for an addition that would allow nation-specific colors: some shredded remains of clothing, possibly even just the waist of some pants with a few shreds hanging from it... Would that be possible, embryo?
embryodead Jan 29, 2004, 07:36 AM Update! Worker animations added. See 1st post for details.
Blasphemous: nope, sorry.
Duke Togo Jan 29, 2004, 08:38 AM Well, here's to hoping for some "brain eating" animation... ;)
Vuldacon Jan 29, 2004, 08:49 AM embryodead...Wonderful addition to the Zombie unit! All Worker actions for him look Super...Now he can be put to good use between his Reeking Havoc on the near by towns people
 Very Cool :goodjob:
tjedge1 Jan 29, 2004, 04:44 PM Woah! I almost missed this update. Great work. :goodjob:

Anyone remember Butcher's Cleaver from Diablo?
tjedge1 Jan 29, 2004, 06:00 PM Yeah I do. I can't remember what he used to say though, something like "I smell fresh meat" Speaking of Diablo quotes you ever hear what the zombies say in Diablo2? If you wait at the edge of their vision they will wander around and say "brraainss.."
:rotfl: Man that brings back some memories.
wurkwurk Jan 30, 2004, 05:02 PM Wow Embyrodead you have time to make units yourself AND the Warhammer mod? Must have some time in your hands. By the way, thats a very nice unit, you can have it as a slave worker/cannon fodder for captured units of the Khemri.
ironmikie Jan 30, 2004, 10:25 PM darn how do u do it???it looks great!nice job!
Warlord 101 Feb 01, 2004, 05:31 AM (Looks at Zombie)
I am in your debt, good sir.
Vuldacon Feb 01, 2004, 08:22 AM Here is an additional sound for the Zombie by embryodead.
I noticed that the Fortress setting under sound was missing in the .INI file. Even though the sound for the Worker building a Fortress could suffice, this sound is better for the Zombie's Big Stick...more of a large Stick hitting the ground than the Worker's Hammer sound.
This is for the Zombie building a Fortress...called "ZombieBeat.wav" (to go with the flc).
The small Zip also contains the adjusted .INI so IF you have the Zombie Update from embryodead, this is all you need.
Having too much Fun with this unit embryodead...I would like to find an area on him to give him CIV Specific Colors though.
Here is the small Zip:
embryodead Feb 01, 2004, 08:37 AM You will always find something to fix ;) Thanks!
Raw is War? Feb 01, 2004, 12:07 PM Love the Zombie and nice cleaver! :goodjob: :)
Vuldacon Feb 01, 2004, 08:13 PM embryodead, Not really trying to "fix" anything...only attempting to enhance or add (hopefully desirable) beneficial extras. Just as your adding the extra worker flcs to the Zombie unit (which are Great additions)....I like the Zombie unit so I am Merely offering extras (.wav files in this case) to you and anyone who may want them. It is certainly not my intention to insult in any way what you have created and offered...it is more a Gratuitous offering in thanks for the Fun Unit.

embryodead Feb 02, 2004, 02:59 AM Hey I didn't take it as an insult ;) Sounds are quite forgotten part of the creation, most units don't even have links to civ3 sounds, and often links don't really fit and they start looping horribly... so I *really* apprieciate what you're doing.
Vuldacon Feb 02, 2004, 08:25 AM Glad I was not "stepping on toes" Embryodead. It was a Pleasure creating the sounds.
...BTW, I am setting up your Zombie as 2 units...one as a Worker with 0 attack and a good defense so he can be Automated as a Worker, the other as an Attacking Zombie that doesn't do Worker jobs. IF the Zombie Worker has the ability to be Automated, it is very helpful IMO and he will still use the Attack flc as defense when needed. The Attacking Zombie will be the Fighting Unit. Have you Tried this?
...The only thing needed that would be absolutely Great is Civ Specific Color so more than one Civ could use the Zombie or Zombies and we could see who they belong to. Perhaps a scrap of torn shirt or a ragged pair of shorts lol. I do realize that adding anything to the Zombie would be a big undertaking with all the animations now and so many frames but it would be Excellent to see many Civs with Zombies :) Would this be possible at this point or just far more work than you would care for? If you are willing to attempt it, I am willing to help in any way with the Graphics. I have added Civ Specific Color to the Original Palatte that could be applied to the flcs and IF the item added is a different color than anywhere else on the unit it could be Civ Specific Colored in all the flcs easier than 1 frame at a time. There may be a simple thing to add as a Civ Specific Colored item that would not detract from the Zombie and also be easy to add...ANY Thoughts?

All non-human workers are set up this way in my wh-mod, though for 2 zombies, I don't really want 2 completly different units using the same animation.

It's 3d render - I would have to re-do all animations, so no, sorry. And I didn't do it in the first place, because it looked ugly with the clothing I had available.
Vuldacon Feb 02, 2004, 09:17 AM yes, I can appreciate your points there embryodead, just wishful thinking :crazyeye: ...Civ Specific Color or not, still a Fun Unit. Thanks.
Duke Togo Feb 02, 2004, 10:37 PM I guess I should give up my hope on the brain eating.
horsematrix Feb 08, 2004, 01:29 PM I can use this unit a lot in my scenarios thanks a lot :D
tjedge1 Feb 09, 2004, 06:44 AM I would love a "Braainnss" quote for the fidget. It could be almost a whisper, but it would be too funny for those who saw the Living Dead movies. I would die every time I scroll across them and I hear a bunch of zombies waiting to work say, "Braainnss."
Vuldacon Feb 09, 2004, 09:38 AM I would love a "Braainnss" quote for the fidget. It could be almost a whisper, but it would be too funny for those who saw the Living Dead movies. I would die every time I scroll across them and I hear a bunch of zombies waiting to work say, "Braainnss."
OK here you go tjedge1 or anyone else wanting this new Fidget Sound for the Zombie unit.
It is about the same loudness as the Original Fidget sound I made for the unit but if you want it a little more quiet...just use the Sound Recorder in your computer to decrease the sound level.
Here is the small Zip:
Isembard Feb 09, 2004, 10:04 AM Lol, it sounds great !
tjedge1 Feb 09, 2004, 06:55 PM That sound has brought tears of joy and pain to my heart.:cry::lol:
That is so funny that this unit will be installed into every version of the game I play, just so I can hear that some time while I'm playing.
Vuldacon Feb 10, 2004, 09:08 AM That sound has brought tears of joy and pain to my heart.
Glad you like it tjedge1 ...The "Night of the Living Dead" was a Real Scream and the Zombie unit is a Fun addition to the game. Funny but I initially wanted to place the "Brains" sound for the Fidget when posting the other sounds but thought I would probably be the only one who would like it. Thanks for suggesting it.
aaglo Feb 10, 2004, 09:34 AM That kind of sound can push some unstable people over the edge. You should have included a mental health warning with that... :p ;)
Sounds damn cool
Ed O'War Feb 10, 2004, 10:27 AM Has anyone suggested a multi-unit version of the Zombie: the Zombie Horde!
Very nice unit, great job.
Corn Shucker Feb 14, 2004, 11:22 PM Now this is a very interesting unit :D Don't know if i'll find use for him but i'm sure someone else will ;) lol wow. thats all i'll say, wow.
Wow.
Corn Shucker Feb 14, 2004, 11:31 PM All i can say is i can see some pretty sick mods coming out of this :D lol
Bluemofia Feb 23, 2004, 08:28 PM can you possibly convert the zombie into a flood human form for a halo mod?

Honestly, I don't know what you are talking about. Never seen halo, whatever it is.
Drift Feb 24, 2004, 01:18 AM Halo is a scifi 3d-shooter for Xbox (and for PC these days) known for its good gameplay, better than average universe and a nice plot. The franchise has produced a few scifi books too. Flood was a group of mutated humans. Their style was a mixture of organic sci-fi and undead.
Pic:

I guess a color change and a gun instead of a cleaver would do it. Completely another thing is how sensible idea a Halo mod for Civ3 is.
tjedge1 Feb 24, 2004, 05:34 AM That sounds interesting, but that link grossed me out before breakfast. The idea of a human becoming that. :vomit:
Otherwise that would be kinda cool. I've never heard of Halo, but that sounds like something some idiot dictator would try somewhere.
genghis_khev Apr 09, 2004, 05:58 PM Just had a thought for this unit: Barbarian Unit!!!
Just turn on the "enslave" option option the editor and its instant "Stone age of the Dead!"
Cool!

That's exactly what I was thinking. :D Enslave result will be another zombie. A self-sustaining army of undead!
tjedge1 Apr 11, 2004, 09:25 PM Ssshhhh!!! You guys are giving away trade secrets there. That is exactly what I was planning for some of my undead in my mod!
gorn May 18, 2004, 10:27 AM The civilopedia pix are no longer included in this zip ... Sorry to pester about this.
embryodead May 18, 2004, 11:40 AM gorn, they are somewhere in the thread.. 2nd or 3rd page.
gorn May 18, 2004, 11:51 AM No worries. Thanx.
Panzer_Blitz May 18, 2004, 04:03 PM Those poor Butchers so many have died to provide weapons to the Zombie army ...
Ummm what would the stats on this smelly thing be, how do you kill the dead ??? Run him over in a tank :)
Zagaroth Dec 11, 2009, 08:11 PM OK, I know, seriously seriously resurrecting a dead threat (At least it's thematically appropriate...)
For my pediaicons entries, what do I use for my Large and Small pcx files? I haven't done any actual graphic work, my first mod really, so I may be just a little confused, but I thought you needed those 2 files? and they do not appear to be in there or referenced by the .ini
MeteorPunch Dec 11, 2009, 09:28 PM Here you go:
Bluemofia Dec 12, 2009, 12:18 PM You put the two files into the <Scenario search folder>\Art\Civilopedia\Icons\Units folder.
Referenced in the <Scenario search folder>\text\PediaIcons.txt file.
Vuldacon Dec 12, 2009, 02:10 PM Here is an adjusted Zombie_units_32.pcx if needed.
Zagaroth Dec 18, 2009, 03:00 PM thank you much. That'll probably be better than the cludge I threw together form another unit. :)
