What's your opinion on luxuries ?
My 2 cents are...
- collect the whole set, no matter the cost
- build cities with just one aim : to get your greedy hands on the luxuries; build them on top of them if needed.
- never, ever, ever trade them away
Imagine a game where you have all the luxuries, that's a whole lotta happy people !
My guess is that you really need them to win on deity...
What do you think ?

Also it should be noted ( or at least so I've been told... ) luxuries - or in fact happiness in general - reduce the corruption, which at higher difficulties and smaller maps is of epidemic proportions.

yep, more happy guys makes less corruption.
I did some math (on a weekend, go figure ! )
1 lux = +1 :)
2 lux = +1 +1 = +2 :)
3 lux = +1 +1 +2 = +4 :)
4 lux = +1 +1 +2 +2 = +6 :)
5 lux = +1 +1 +2 +2 +3 = +9 :)
6 lux = +1 +1 +2 +2 +3 +3 = +12 :)
7 lux = +1 +1 +2 +2 +3 +3 +4 = +16 :)
8 lux = +1 +1 +2 +2 +3 +3 +4 +4 = +20 :)
I don't know about you, but +20 :) sure seems like a winner !

Hey it will be exterly hard to get all 8 lux without trade. I think the game was build with purpose of trade and u will have to trader your lux for others. If you go to conquer the lux u don't have then might as well get the conquer the hole world and then the game ends. there is always something missing :)

Mmm, I donno...
Conquer the world is *hard*, especially on high levels.
It's far easier to make peace, sneak in a settler and two-three defence units, build a city on top of the luxury and then beg into peace again...
Trade for them is ofcours an option, ofcours, but I don't want them to have the luxuries ! They are mine, mine, mine !!!

one wine will have the same as 5 wines, so if you have an overabundance of one type of luxury, trade it away for other luxury items you dont have. i noticed that luxury items from far away sometimes makes several people happy

Mmm, I don't think it matters from where they are. All that matters is how many you have already, like shown above.
Anyone differs ?
