View Full Version : New Borders

I've gone and created some new borders. Mainly because I was bored....but I also noticed problems picking up gray (India) and green (Japan) borders on some terriain. So these borders are thicker, and come in three flavors. Bright, Dark and Mixed.

Should work for all Civ 3 versions. Just place it in your Civ 3 folder\Art\Terrian\Territory.pcx

A preview is attached below.

The zip file contains all 4 files (my original too) and a preview of the borders.

Enjoy. :)

I uploaded the file again with a slightly different name.

Can someone tell me if it works for them now?

The file has no extension like *.pcx.

You can load it and open it from inside an application by picking show all files and then save it as a *.pcx, but you can't just double-click on it and open it.

Nope.
Try putting it in a zip. Call it CornsTerritory.zip and replace the current attachment with that one.

exactly: it says the file is called "attachment" and that there's no known filetype

Wierd....uploaded it as a .zip this time.

I had no problem with it....but I have a association for .pcx's and I use Mozilla Firebird. Maybe that makes the difference.

My first post in over a year . . .

Just to say that these borders RULE. Good show!

Now if I can only find a mod to make the in-game text font thicker . . .

Indeed, these really are an improvement. I can't see the demarcations for some of the border mods, but these are nicely done.

Very nice borders indeed. It makes identifing the amount of land lefted in the rival countries easier for the player. Plus, I don't make a mistake when two countries of the same color type are next to each other.

I like these borders a lot. :)

They give the impression of a civ's control "fading" with the geography as well as being easy to see.

Awesome work.

Very pretty!
Hopefully this'll make borders easier to see along rivers and trees.
I hate it when I improve a rivals terrain, thinking it's mine.
[Edit] Definitely makes them easier to see in hidden areas.
I noticed that there are gaps in some corners, though. Is there an easy fix for this?

CornMaster
May 05, 2004, 10:45 PM
No...I tried extending the border lines past the square area, and it does fix the gap, it also extends too far in other situations. Overall it looked very stupid.

I did try to fix this by curving the ends, but of course this didn't work because when it goes on straight....the ends would curve away from each other.

So this is what I was left with. :)

Darn you, Corn, now I'm going to HAVE to update my Tweaked Out mod to Version 2.5 :p.

Anyways, the new mixed borders are even easier to see along jungles and rivers than they were before. :goodjob: ;)

I use them with all versions and mods of Civ3 that I have because of this fact alone (plus they look cool).

I've seen these in some GOTM screenshots and wondered what they were, I haven't come to this forum much in the past but decided to click on it for the hell of it today(i've got 3 1/2 hours to kill between exams). I'll get these as soon as I get home!
