The infocentre has a piece on ethnic cleansing, is this true? Has anyone captured an enemy city and used the original nations population to create settlers/workers?
Thanks in advance.

View Full Version : small-scale ethnic cleansing Portent Nov 02, 2001, 06:01 PM The infocentre has a piece on ethnic cleansing, is this true? Has anyone captured an enemy city and used the original nations population to create settlers/workers? Thanks in advance. The_Ironman Nov 03, 2001, 12:05 AM The way the combat system "works", I wouldn't be surprised if Settlers and Workers beat the hell out of whatever you sent after them... Portent Nov 03, 2001, 05:06 AM Thanks for your input, but it doesn't really answer the question! Besides settlers/workers have 0/0/1 stats so I'm hoping that they aren't beating anything. Mozenwrath Nov 03, 2001, 05:15 AM Ethnic cleansing is there to make our lives easier. Cities under your command with lots of foreigners in them are far less productive so if you were to build a settler in that city, you'd want it to be of your nationality so the city it builds is as productive as possible. I haven't actually got the game but I'm pretty sure (from what I've heard) that the ethnic cleansing feature is present. Portent Nov 03, 2001, 05:26 AM Thanks Mozenwrath, but if you had a city under your command that had a majority of foreign nationals and you built a settler using your own nation's population then wouldn't you increase the risk of that city revolting, or turning back to it's original nationality. Surely it would be better to use the foreign nationals, assuming when the new city is founded it is populated with your nationality. Mozenwrath Nov 03, 2001, 05:34 AM Hmmm, good point, but if you build a city with a foreign national settler, I assume that all the resulting citizens that occur through growth will also be foreign. It seems that either way, you're going to get a poor city. However, you can, I assume, put settlers into a city like in Civ2 to make it better. (Sorry, what a poorly worded sentence) The_Ironman Nov 03, 2001, 09:10 PM The manual says you can't build a city with foerign settlers because captured settlers turn into two workers and any settlers built in a captured city are probably changed to your nationality. Poochface Nov 03, 2001, 11:30 PM Actually, I think settlers winning battles is one of the only freak incidents you won't see in Civ 3 since they just fall down and get captured. =) And actually, back in Civ 2, I saw one of my engineers defeat a horde of barbarians. That was really weird. Valant2 Nov 03, 2001, 11:34 PM Poochface: Maybe the settlers/engineers circled the wagons/cars and drove off the barbs? Heh. Quite often I would place a vetran settler on a hill or mountain next to the enemy city so that the computer would grind up their units attacking the settler to no avail. |
