Bmp files are rather huge... And, the only program that I can think of that can convert to jpg is photoshop, which I dont have...

http://www.irfanview.com/

Irfan View can even batch convert dozens of bitmaps into anything you want.

I personally prefer ACDSee for actually looking at the pics, but for batch converting Irfan View is my first choice.

Like Longasc says, infanview seems to be the best

How about MS Paint? It will load both Bmp and jpg. Just load the Bmp file and save it as jpg.

Nothing is better than IrfanView.

And none of this has anything to do with Civ3. ;)

With older versions of it, it doesn't. The one I have on my Windows 98 PC, can'not. Whereas the one on my Win Xp PC, can...

pretty sure they all do it. i was running 98 SE not long ago, and that did it.

anyways, paint should be able to do it if you have nothing else.

You may have misunderstood, I was referring to it not being able to save the pictures as .jpg's --- and it is SE.
It can load 'em fine :)

This might just be me though :hmm:

My 98 (not SE) can load and save .jpg and .gif, but Paint at school (where they run 2000) can't. Funny.

I endorse irfanview - very powerful and *free* graphics program and confirm that converting and saving in the various formats work for Win 98SE.

For Linux, I'd also recommend The Gimp, close to the power of Photoshop and like most Linux progs, is free.

GIMP... Painful to install on Windows...

You kidding! It goes smoothly. And you have to install GTK, that's all...

Yeah, the GIMP was a pain to install, but I did it, and it filled me in until I got Macromedia Fireworks from the school for cheap.

Just use Paint.

I agree with GenghisK - Gimp install was a breeze with Mandrake 9.1 - completely transparent through the Control Centre.
