View Full Version : Are there any free programs that converts bmp to jpg? Illusion13 Jan 30, 2004, 02:41 AM Bmp files are rather huge... Longasc Jan 30, 2004, 02:43 AM http://www.irfanview.com/ Irfan View can even batch convert dozens of bitmaps into anything you want. I personally prefer ACDSee for actually looking at the pics, but for batch converting Irfan View is my first choice. sabo Jan 30, 2004, 06:54 AM Like Longasc says, infanview seems to be the best Sparrow3 Jan 30, 2004, 07:54 AM How about MS Paint? It will load both Bmp and jpg. Just load the Bmp file and save it as jpg. rdomarat Jan 30, 2004, 08:03 AM Nothing is better than IrfanView. Padma Jan 30, 2004, 08:09 AM And none of this has anything to do with Civ3. ;) Moved to Computer Talk. Gainy Jan 30, 2004, 10:03 AM How about MS Paint? It will load both Bmp and jpg. Whereas the one on my Win Xp PC, can... pretty sure they all do it. i was running 98 SE not long ago, and that did it. anyways, paint should be able to do it if you have nothing else. Archer 007 Jan 30, 2004, 09:10 PM My paint on 98 SE does it also. Gainy Jan 31, 2004, 03:56 AM pretty sure they all do it. i was running 98 SE not long ago, and that did it. You may have misunderstood, I was referring to it not being able to save the pictures as .jpg's --- and it is SE. It can load 'em fine :) This might just be me though :hmm: bobgote Jan 31, 2004, 04:58 AM Originally posted by Gainy bo You may have misunderstood, I was referring to it not being able to save the pictures as .jpg's --- and it is SE. The Person Feb 04, 2004, 04:24 AM My 98 (not SE) can load and save .jpg and .gif, but Paint at school (where they run 2000) can't. Funny. Ankka Feb 04, 2004, 07:53 AM Irfanview can save the files in many formats, it's the best. GenghisK Feb 04, 2004, 12:09 PM BAahhhhhhh!!! The GIMP!! All the way! Nobody thought about the GIMP! www.gimp.org tsk tsk Achinz Feb 05, 2004, 10:00 PM I endorse irfanview - very powerful and *free* graphics program and confirm that converting and saving in the various formats work for Win 98SE. For Linux, I'd also recommend The Gimp, close to the power of Photoshop and like most Linux progs, is free. lord_yoshi Feb 08, 2004, 02:58 AM Originally posted by GenghisK BAahhhhhhh!!! The GIMP!! And you have to install GTK, that's all... Gingerbread Man Feb 08, 2004, 03:57 AM Yeah, the GIMP was a pain to install, but I did it, and it filled me in until I got Macromedia Fireworks from the school for cheap. Eastern Knight Feb 08, 2004, 05:10 AM Just use Paint. Achinz Feb 08, 2004, 06:14 PM I agree with GenghisK - Gimp install was a breeze with Mandrake 9.1 - completely transparent through the Control Centre. valamas Feb 19, 2004, 11:44 PM download.com is a great place to find free things.
