View Full Version : New unit: Ghost Ship - the Black Pearl

This one is one weirdo unit.
An undead ship with the most strangest animations I've done.

And the files are quite large - I had to upload them in two separate zip's.

The sounds aren't anything special, but they'll do fine for me.

The flics & ini-file (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/BlackPearl.zip)

Sounds and civilopedia graphics (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/BPpcx_wav.zip)

Here is a demo of the animations. Default, victory, run, fidget, attackA (spirits), attackB (cannons) and death
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/BlackPearlDemo.gif

And here are the civilopedia images (two to choose from)

IT'S DONE! FIRST POST! Very, very good Aaglo. Do you mind if I make an alternative civilopedia pick with my misty clouds?

Oh, and Aaglo, you have inspired me to actually make a mod I've been considering for a while, and use this as a hidden natioanlity ship.

This is a frame of the death animation, in FLICster, with alpha blend on. Wouldn't this look a little odd in game? I'm talking about those odd light spots by the sails. Are these just lighter background colors? I mean, it is light pink, and then light gray. I haven't been able to test it in game yet, sorry, so I'm not sure how it would look, but is it supposed to be like this?

aaglo
Feb 07, 2004, 01:10 AM
yes, it's supposed to look that way. It looks fine in the game, don't worry.

Just as a suggestion, could you made death flc also as the ship just fade away? After all, it already sunk... and been destoried... now it's ghosty...

Supreme. I will use that for my civ called Nithia. They love the undead you know. This will make a great ghost ship, better than the last one which was just a faded out version of the Frigate. As usual aaglo.:thumbsup: Great work!

Absolutely fantastic!

Now, the only problem I've got is to device a way to include this into my mod... Is there a way to have it as one possible choice for barbarians or would it replace all the other ship variations that the barbarians use... I have very little (read: none at all) experience of modding barbarian units...

Unfortunately, barbarians can have only one type of ship.

tjedge1
Feb 11, 2004, 07:25 AM
A way that barbarians could have different ships would be to give the enslve ability to htis ship as the buildable barb ship, then the enslaved ships become a pirate ship per say and if you have other barbarian ships they would all be given the enslave ability and to turn the ship into another barbarian ship. That is a theory that I haven't tested but it sounds like it should work to me unless I'm mistaken on how enslavement works. I was thinking of doing that in my personal mod one of these days.

Hi

It looks grea, but how do do actually put it in the game? and where precisely would it show up? (I.E. what civ/where on the tech tree etc)

Sorry to ask this, but I've never put a new unit into the game before, this one looks wicked tho

Gogf
Feb 12, 2004, 05:41 AM
What we are doing in Bobby Lee's mod is that privateers enslave to them, and that is the only way to build them. They also have better stats than privateers.

Colonel Kraken has made a good thread to help with adding units to C3C. I learned the hard way myself, by fixing whatever error it gave me till it worked inthe game, but that was frustrating and time consuming. This thread will be more helpful. If you don't have Conquests then just check the tutorials forum, and there plenty of older threads with Civ3 tutorials.
Here is the thread: Adding units to C3C (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=71114)

My geuss would be the same one that brings in Privateers. It is afterall a Ghost Pirate ship, right?

Drift, are you a Master of Magic fan? I miss that game, Age of Wonders just doesn't measure up.

If you make the Pearl a barbarian ship, will it roam the seas and attack what it comes across?

Actually, not really. I just like the game and the basic idea behind it. I also feel that Master of Magic should be brought to today's standards in that same "almost like civ" style as the original was as. That's where I got the idea for a mod.

Nope. This is a ship summoned by death mages. Seas are roamed by giant squids. :)

BTW, I nowadays have a thread of my own for the mod.

Wow, Aaglo, I don't know how you do it, but I'd say that you're good enough to go professional, with this quality and production rate:goodjob:

This unit would be perfect for a barbarian sea unit in my Final Fantasy mod...:hmm: Alright, that's it! Forget about this weekend, I'm starting on the FF mod RIGHT NOW!!:D

Thanks for the great units and providing the inspiration/motivation to get this mod underway:goodjob:

Ah its okay.. I deserved it, shouldn't have revived so many old threads. I'm not a frequent user of forums so I didn't know about the ettiquette of not bumping old threads. But people seem to get very pissed off about it.. I thought only moderators would do that. But lesson learned, I'll watch my bumping from now on :D

Bungus
Feb 05, 2005, 12:04 PM
Very well then!
After hanging around here for a while, most members pay close attention to the unit forum cause, well, we like new units and frankly have nothing better to do. We get all excited when we see a new thread (or one we haven't seen in a while and have forgotten about), kinda like when you find a 5 dollar bill laying on the floor. Then, you pick it up, and realize that its same old one you put in your pocket for lunch, it just fell out. I hate that feeling; thats why I memorize the serial codes on every bill I carry on me, so I don't get let down thinking my couch can magicaly duplicate money when I find the same bill wedged in between the coushins. Otherwise, you're just setting yourself up for dissapointment.
That, and we don't need old threads cluttering up the top of forum making less old units hard to find. So for your punishment, you must start a new thread and write "I will not revive old threads" 2000 times. A day. (And no copy n pasting, either, wise guy)
