View Full Version : New unit: Dwarf Deathroller
aaglo Feb 08, 2004, 11:16 AM Hi!
This time the dwarfs get a 'cavalry' unit. An eazy-rider deathroller.
This unit is not tested in game, so if any problems occur, just solve them :p ... Or make a note of it in this thread
Download the Deathroller (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/Deathroller.zip)
Here is the demo of animations: Default, fidget, run, attack, clear (forests&jungles), road (makes roads), victory and death

Attached is a sample of the civilopedia image.
Gogf Feb 08, 2004, 11:16 AM SECOND POST :p! Wow, that's great Aaglo. Even better than it looked in the previews!
MarineCorps Feb 08, 2004, 11:22 AM Wow, that was fast. Nice unit, odd looking but cool:cool: :lol:
Yoda Power Feb 08, 2004, 11:30 AM This unit rocks:goodjob: I cant wait to see it in the WH mod.
Raw is War? Feb 08, 2004, 12:08 PM Class unit, love the work your doing for the WH mod. :thumbsup:
embryodead Feb 08, 2004, 12:57 PM Excellent :D Now I only have to convince PCHighway that this is THE dwarven cavalry for LotM ;)
hetairoi22 Feb 08, 2004, 12:57 PM Looks cool, even though I've no way of using it... :thumbsup: :thumbsup: The quality of that thing is really sublime! I especially like the death anim. :D
A request:
I was wondering if, when you finish doing your ongoing round of WH units, you would mind doing a cavalry archer and a heavy cavalry archer (to have an upgrade path, you know) to use in my private mod? They might even be useful to others! :p The difference between them, would be that the first one only wears leather armour (maybe a little metal here and there), whereas the 'heavy' one uses metal armour and has a semi-armoured horse. They would looks quite generic (for my uses anyway)...
Sorry for the threadjack/impropriety... Keep it up, man! :)
Isembard Feb 08, 2004, 02:03 PM :goodjob: Keep up the good WH units ;)

@aaglo: Nice! :thumbsup:
spincrus Feb 08, 2004, 03:57 PM Bizarre, and somewhat "too cute to be true", but lovely! I guess you really like that dwarven model aaglo :)
Mr. Do Feb 08, 2004, 04:19 PM omg omg I can't beleive you actually made it- I was barely joking when I suggested it in the WH-Mod before (Although I'm sure you were making it independently of what I posted, it just seems amazing)!
embryodead Feb 08, 2004, 04:33 PM @Mr. Do
Actually, you are responsible for this :p (I've sent a pic to aaglo after you posted that).

It doesn't merely rock, it veritably rolls!
aaglo Feb 09, 2004, 01:04 AM @Gogf
You got it right: second post, first reply ;) . I'm quite sure it looks the same way in the previews too :)
@MarineCorps
Yeah, this unit was easy and quick to animate - propably the easiest I've done.
@Yoda Power
Thanks, I think this thing is ready to Rock'n'Roll.
@Raw is war?
Well, what else I could do? I like the WH mod a lot, and if I can help it to be even better (and I hope I'm not worsening it), then I'm happy to do so :) .
@Embryodead
I hope you like it. And if PCH will add this to the LotM-mod, then I'll eat my shorts.
@hetairoi22
Well, this unit is quite special, I admit. It hardly fits in any even closely real-life-related somewhat historical scenarios.
And what comes to your requests: I would like to help, but I don't do horses :lol: ... no seriously, I don't know how to make a horse with pov-ray (I've never tried to be exact - who knows, maybe I can make a horse). But I'd suggest you to make those requests to the people much more able in such things. We all know who they are ;)
@Isembard
I will try to do so, thanks.
@mrtn
Will you eat your shorts too, if PCH will do that? And thanks!
@SpincruS
Yeah, who could say no to a cute little dwarf with a heavy roller like that :)
@Mr Do
Thanks for the request to Embryodead (who fowarded it to me). And I'm a guy without a sense of humor, I don't understand jokes. At all. ;)
@Embryodead (revisited)
Yeah, thanks again for the foward.
About the thing itself - I think it's okay for it to have the move of 2. Just make the unit available a bit later than the knights (or horsemen or whatever you think this could replace for the dwarfs), and maybe add a resource requirement (cos' obviously this thing does not require horses - I'd say iron and some other funky material).
@The Last Conformist
Yes. Literally :lol:

Well, now we get to see it "in action."
Drift Feb 09, 2004, 04:54 AM Really cool work, I especially like the way it's in synch with your other dwarven units (Organ especially). I can't fit them in for dwarves of my mod, but if more of these are made, I might be able to use them as gnomish units (luckily there are no universal standards of what gnomes look like). It would cause troubles with tech tree, but with units as good as these, I'm willing to try. :)
Vuldacon Feb 09, 2004, 06:37 AM "eazy-rider deathroller":lol: WOW aaglo...another Fun unit! Looks Great:goodjob: Thanks, looking forward to Rolling Over the Enemy with this Unit...Dwarf Power rides again.
tjedge1 Feb 09, 2004, 06:39 AM Gnomes are exactly what I had in mind for my mod. My Gnomish Engineering tech is going to have a nice variety of units for most of the civs at this rate.
embryodead Feb 09, 2004, 08:17 AM @aaglo
Well, it wasn't a joke on my part, I really wanted this unit, it's just from not-so-serious warhammer sports game, but still in the same world :)
DoubleT Feb 09, 2004, 08:19 AM Great job :)
Vanadorn Feb 09, 2004, 08:23 AM Stats. ED, what do think the possible stats for this are to be? And will it be able to lay roads, clear, and such? Does it come with gearworks (1st age, later tech) or maybe later with deforestation (may be too late for that).
embryodead Feb 09, 2004, 08:30 AM @Vanadorn
In WH2.0 it actually comes between the two - with the Invention (though tech tree is different, but you can more or less get the idea).
So far it's 8.3.2 +2HP, 100 shields, can build roads and clear forests.
Since stat system changed, for comparision: imperial knight is 8.6.2, 80 shields.
Mr. Do Feb 09, 2004, 11:18 AM Well even though I never expected anyone to make it, it's still really cool to see it made! :D
Kindred72 Feb 09, 2004, 01:46 PM Exellent stuff Aaglo! I'll prob. use these for gnomes. In D&D worlds, it's the Gnomes that are mechanical. Want to try your hand at a gnome flinger? I'm sure you could probably picture it as much as I could.:D
tjedge1 Feb 09, 2004, 07:00 PM That is a great transport system, as long as the nets to catch the gnomes don't open too soon or too late. Those sponges on the bottom floor are meant for cleaning up the mess, not cushioning a fall. ;)
Sorry to those who never read DragonLance Chronicles. That took place in volume 2.
Yaniv Feb 12, 2004, 02:26 PM These units are getting wierder and wierder, not that the anitmation isn't wonderful.:goodjob:
Sir Slaughter Jul 15, 2005, 03:55 AM Aaglo can you please send me the dwarf death roller in pov-ray format
cos i just downloaded pov-ray and its rrrrrreeeeeaaaaalllllyyyyy confusing :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:
