View Full Version : Archipelago PBEM

Hi. I'm starting an archipelago PBEM with 5 humans and 3 AIs. Settings are as follows.

Standard size.
80% water.
Barbarians roaming.
Climate normal.
Temperature warm.
Age 5 billion.
Difficuly monarch.

I wanted to do an archipelago since most PBEMs are continents or pangaea. Rules are pretty standard.
-No contact with anybody outside of the game until you make contact with them in the game. After that, feel free to talk via this forum, e-mail, yahoo.chat or any other means.
-No reloading. An obvious one but needs to be said anyway.
-Play at least one turn a day. And if you are going to be out of town or can't play your turn, have the courtesy to visit this forum and let us know.
-Any deals with the AI or humans are fine. If you want to ally against someone, go ahead. If you want to break deals, go ahead. etc...
-I'm open to suggestions for any other rules once you decide to join the game.

If you want to play, respond here with your name, e-mail, time you play, and civ choice. I thought it might be nice if everybody picked a seafaring civ, but the choice is yours. After everybody has picked their civ, I am going to give the AIs seafaring civs. Since there are only 7 seafaring civs, and if all 5 humans pick seafaring civs, then two of the AIs get seafaring and the third AI will be random.

after looking over the seafaring civs i really wanted the portuguese, but already have a game w/ them & im trying to b diversified :( so then i wanted the dutch, but somebody stole them while my internet was down  so then i finally decided upon Carthage, however since i am handicapped by having to take my third choice the other players in this game are going ot have to spot me a tech & 20 gold as soon as contactis established.

Sorry about mispelling the e-mail. I just woke up and got the turn is here, so I guess everybody is on track. Turn is being played now and sent to Fanste.

Talk about bad starting positions! I think by making the climate warm that the game went overboard and put in too many marshes and jungles. At least I got to start on a tiny bit of fresh water.

I think he is going to save some turns on a disk at work, play them at home, then can send them the next day from work, but i cannot guarantee that. :( Really crappy start + a lot of bad luck. I had just one sugar and a fish and in order to get both tiles in the start I had to build on the sugar. Everything else was marsh or sea. Ok, so I decide to risk and build a fast settler (as fast as I can with 1 shield), we are in archipelago anyway and I can hope I won't meet soemone else fast. Well, not so :(

Ya, I can see now that you did have a very bad start. We have a horrible island. And when I saw that worker and settler I knew I had to have them to clear some land so I could settle. I really have no where else to settle until I clear some marsh/jungle and my starting worker is already busy doing that, but he can only do it so fast.

As I can see your island of marsh the game seems not to be very balanced. My starting location is pretty good, but if I'm the only one being happy with the game, I would accept a restart on a new map with the same team. Don't know if such an offer is sacrilegious?

Tweedledee, you bring up a good point. I should have asked everybody if they wanted a restart. After looking at Arrogant's starting position there is a very slim chance he would have been able to do anything with this game. Even if we had not been on the same island and he was alone, he still would have fallen so far behind. I will keep that in mind if I ever start another PBEM.

I just started a PBEM where the host did ask us if anybody wanted a restart. After getting the turn, I saw I was surrounded by desert, with the next ring mountains and one volcano. I asked for a restart and didn't feel bad about it one bit.

Ok. When I started this game I said barbarians were going to be roaming. But does anybody think I mistakenly set them to raging? I am having barbarian problems all over the place. I disperse a camp and another one pops up a few squares away. I can't move settlers where I want them because a new camp pops up. And some of these camps have more than one warrior. A camp I just discovered has 4 warriors in it! So is anybody else experiencing this?

Hi, just a reminder that I'm going on vacation today. I will be back on July 1 or 2. Sorry for the delay and see you when I get back.

I sure hope when I get back this game gets going again.

I'm very lucky because I found a new job that was starting today, but now I can not promise anymore to play my turn daily. If the game will slow down because of me I'll look for a replacement, but first I'll try to continue.

@ Tweedledee, Congrats on finding a new job. Just do whatever you think is best. If the game takes up too much of your time then try to find a replacement, a dependable one perferably.

My new job keeps me busy 12 - 16 hours a day, and there is no time for
playing Civ anymore. I have to quit all my PBEMs and will look for a
replacement.
Sorry for the inconsistence.

LouLong, the game is yours. Rubberjello will send you the save and you will send it to me. My e-mail is greeneclan AT mchsi DOT com. As for the particulars:
-You are the Dutch.
-As far as I know you have not had your golden age yet.
-You have leading the game with 100 more points than me, and 200 more than Rubberjello (who is also a replacement after the first and second guy quit!
-You do not have any peace or trade agreements with me, but I don't know if you have any with Rubberjello.
-You can contact Tweedledee for the password at tweedledee AT gmx DOT de
-If you can't reach him to get the password in a few days then let me know and I will give you the admin password.
-Good luck!

I sent the password to LouLong yesterday and hope he received it.
Have fun with the game - it was nice and I'm a bit sad about leaving it.

LouLong, you did get lucky playing after him. He has an excellent start (I think), and he has definately done better than the rest of us.

To all: I finally got my computer up and running. It had a problem that made the computer constantly reboot and there was nothing I could do. I had to wipe my hard drive and reinstall Windows XP. I am currently downloading all patches, drivers, and reinstalling all my programs. I should be able to play again real soon. Thanks for being patient.

I haven't seen this game in a while. Does anybody know where the game is? If not, I will send the latest turn to RJ again in hopes of keeping this game going. We are so close to the end it would be a shame to stop now I think.
