View Full Version : Poll: Industrial Revolution Scenario
homeyg Feb 15, 2004, 04:05 PM Who would be interested in a detailed scenario starting in the Industrial Revolution era and ending in the imperialism era spanning the from beginning of the Industrial Revolution in Great Britain to the race to explore and colonize Africa and Southeast Asia? Starting when Britain leads the way in industrialization, when factories were just starting to be invented around the late 1770's, all techs lead up to the ability to explore and colonize Africa and Southeast Asia, who's natural resources are needed to power the industrialized nations. Victory points will be awarded when shiploads of goods, or 'treasure chests', are brought back to your cities. Tons of barbarian encampments (with more advanced units rather than warriors) in Africa, and the Asian civilizations are in place to resent your colonization. Sounds alot like the Age of Discovery conquest, but it isn't. I have not yet started building the scenario or determined the civ's, but most likely the civs are going to be the European civs around that era and the Asian civs around that era. The map is obviously going to span from Europe down to the southern tip of Africa and as far east as Japan. I'm going to need alot of ideas and feedback from people interested. Thanks!

civilleader Feb 16, 2004, 06:23 PM How would you simulate issues like the british east india company, or the dutch east india company? There needs to be an Asian tech tree, an African, and a European.
Will Latin America be independent at the scenario start? If not how to create the Mexican, Gran Columbian, etc. independence. Even the American independence issues are required. I can help with research, but don't know graphics.
Bombur Feb 16, 2004, 06:28 PM -The idea is quite good, I think. Maybe you should start in 1776 to simulate the USA independence war. A modern era scenario withouth the USA is somewhat senseless. You will have troubles in simulating independence of other nations, like Brazil and Mexico. Unfortunately, Civ3 is worse than Civ2 in many aspects including this....
homeyg Feb 16, 2004, 07:45 PM civilleader, you've played the Middle Ages conquest, haven't you? They solve the problem with multiple tech trees with the flavors feature. A civ assigned to a certain flavor will only research the techs also assigned to that flavor- I think. I was planning to start the scenario around the 1770's, just in time for the american revolution. I also planning to just have the european countries and asian countries, but now I think I'm going to have this scenario reflect the whole world around this time period. Also, I could use alot of research.
Bombur, I am thinking about starting the scenario somewhere around the 1770's, I guess that the only way to reflect the American Revolution would be to start in 1776 and have a locked alliance between America and Britain. But, then what if the Americans conquer the British, that would negate the purpose of the scenario. I guess I could start it right after the end of the revolution, and go from there.
Keep the ideas flowin'!!
bombshoo Feb 16, 2004, 08:44 PM For all the countries that achieved Independance in this time, I would maybe give them alot of units, and maybe one city, while the rest of the country is held by the British, or Spanish or French etc. That way they have to take the cities to acheive independance. It should probaly be fairly easy for them to take over that area, but not anywhere else.
Androrc Feb 17, 2004, 04:45 AM IMHO it should start after the Napoleonic Wars, and the USA shouldn't be a locked ally of Britain. Because then, for example, if Germany declares war at Britain, it would be at war with USA too, which at the time was kind of isolacionist from Europe's affairs. I think that Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, etc. should be independent when the scenario starts, and even though they weren't independent at the time I suggested, it was very near it. IMHO they should be independent because: 1) It would make Spain and Portugal a lot stronger than they were at the time. 2) They(Argentina, Mexico and Brazil) had some impact at the 19th century and became powerful nations at the 20th century.
homeyg Feb 17, 2004, 03:53 PM Great ideas. Especially bombshoo's about the revolutions. That idea will make it so I can start it during the American Revolution. Same with other coutries that gain their independence.
