Our last poll, "Which level do you play on most often?", is closed today with 1123 votes collected in 23 days! This is definitely our biggest poll so far!! Thanks to everyone who voted. Here are the results:

I am very surprised by the large percentage (67 percent) of players who play on Chieftain-King levels. Civ2 has been out for 5 years and I thought most players would have advanced to Emperor or Deity level by this time.

Our next poll is not directly related to Civilization. The poll question is "What is the speed of your computer?". Some players have expressed their concern that Civ3 may have high system requirements and that they may need to buy a new system to play it. The purpose of this poll is to show the average speed of civers' computers. Hopefully Firaxis could take the results of this poll into account when they set the system requirements for Civ3...

Old poll results are available on this page.

This is actually very reassuring. When I first came to this site I figured that everyone was like some super-civer and could slaughter Deity Level easily. I was almost afraid to play multiplayer! http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif

I usually play Deity, unless I'm trying some new, far out strategy.

Don't miss these interesting (some silly) comments for this poll http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif :
------------
Web Poll - User Comments 1 - 44

- Holy Civilization2! 1000+ Votes!
- fracos
- Varför spela King när man kan spela Deity?
- Computers are to weak on all difficulties from Chieftain to King. Only Emperor and Deity are worthy difficulties for this game, trust Michel.
- those who say they often win in deity mode are liers
- Go to Civworld at pub9.ezboard.com/bcivworld
- I can beat the game easily on Warlord, and usually on Prince, but King is a challenge for me, and I like that.
- If your not playing with 7 civs, your not playing
- last two posts aremine. sorry for the dupe. i also enjoy making calculator games. -SC
- i voted deity(thats what im currently trying to master(beat it playing occ) but i most usually play king or emporer for an interesting game that is not too taxing on my civ "desire to play meter". my favorite game next to chess and colonization
- John is being insane
- if it is not on deity ur weak
- Deity is the only way to create an underdog position
- prince is the best
- I recently started to master Deity. The game itself is really fun, but multiplayer is where the true competition is. If I didn't have such a horrible connection I'd play more often online...oh well - AICrcks
- How can anyone have fun on anything lower then king
- I play king right now, i expect to get to deity, up the irons!
- I just do Chieftain for a quick easy ngame .But got really into the other levels
- king is too easy and deity is too hard....emperor is a happy medium
- a civ fanatics site and 26% play chieftain and warlord??!!!
- Any thing less than Deity is, well, wimpy
- outstanding
- Still playing with The Original Civ!
- i play on prince, i find it easy enough, but going to king makes it quite hard. i sorta understand why ppl say it is too easy, the prob with most games difficulty level, is that it keeps the same AI, but just makes it easier/harder for you depending
- im suprised, i thought that emporer would be the highest. i didn;'t think so many people play cheiftain either
- People are much more honest when they vote anonymously. They have nothing to lose.
- How come there aren't 20 000 000 votes so far in the 'Which level do you play on most often?' ??? Alex 15 yrs UK
- this game is the best ever made
- I would safely persume that this poll is useless as many people may be inclined to vote for a higher ranking to make themselves feel good when they are most likely a lowly prince as I am. Just though I would say that this is useless - bye http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif
- the game is easy it needs a very hard setting
- sometime I just roll a dice to se which level to play on
- yo yo yo
- The number of those who claim to play at Deity level is a good indicator of the size of the BS lobby among Civers.
- There's a lot o' variety out there!
- why play deity, its too hard?
- I find Deity too easy - the AI does not protect it's cities properly. It is also too easy to declare war by demanding tribute.
- Love the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- on topper levels, the AI is unfair
- I've been playing Warlord, but ready to start moving up now that I've learned a great deal from this site.
- Emporer is favorite, but play King.
- who are you pansies playin chieftain?
- emperor level is most reasonable.
- im the first one to vote!-SC

I roll a dice to see what level I play on.
1 for Chieftain
6 for Deity
Cuts Down on my thinking when I am setting up a game!

I have progressed to king level, which I have been playing for a while. I move slow, guess that is what happens when you hit 40. Tried my first at Emperor and fell behind in science quickly, guess I need to adjust my tactics. I have found as you move up, you need to adjust how you play, what works at chieftan, doesn't work at Prince, or King. Hopefully I will join the ranks of the elite here at Diety soon, until then, I pay homage to those civ gods at the highest level. I salute you http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/beerchug.gif

I am not suprised, until I came to this web site I used to play prince if I wanteda challenge. Now with some of the strategies that I have picked up, I have moved up to Diety. I have yet to beat it, but that is only becasue I have been playing multiplayer alot more.
Also, there is nothing wrong with topping out with King or even Chieftan, as long as you are having fun!

I play King for a challenging game, and prince for a relaxing game. In prince, I usually have up to 15 techs ahead of the AI. I guess I'm not that good compared to Cunobelin of Hippo and others, but somehow I get lucky at multiplayer. I think my main problem is I overlooks defense and attack too soon. My science and economy is good, but most cities only have 2 good defenders, as opposed to 6 in the AI cities.

I like King or Emporer.
Deity stresses discontent too much, and it throws game out of whack.

i think i already posted this here, but i too play king and emp for fun game, and deity for challenge. vlad, i too do not defend cities, and dont even attack. i usually have only 1 defender, and maybe 2 in outlying. civs in deity dont attack very well. not even vikings.

It's true. http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif The AI can never mount a significant attack. Guarding your cities well in the early stages is a waste of resources and time.

Diety is for weeklings. There should be a way to limitlessly increase the difficulty in civ2 like there is in civ1. You pansies don't know what you're missing.

I almost always play on prince, but have been having a few games on the higher levels.

TTG, the one thing i have to say about Civ 1 is that building a palace was more fun than building the throne room in Civ 2

Looking at those statistics, they make perfect sense. 67% of people play on the first for diff levels. 4 levels out of 6. Now last time i check 4 out of 6 is 67% or 2 thirds.

Is this just happenstance or is there a darker power behind it?

Sid Meier should make deity hard by pure AI intelligence, not cheating.

It's true! If you want a graphical example of cheating big time, you should take a look at the production box when you investigate an enemy civ's city next time you play on King or above! OK so it's not cheating as such because it is one of the documented ways that the game increases the difficulty at higher levels - by increasing the AI production rate over yours.

Anyway... back to the topic...

Why do I usually play at King level? Because I'm an old man now - 48 - and it makes for a nice relaxing game where there is still plenty of challenge to achieve new goals. If I want a bit of stress, and possibly less enjoyment, I can beat the Emperor or Deity levels instead, but I prefer more creative fun. http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif

New goals? Yeah. For me I can play and set myself a goal other than conquer the world, or be first to land a spaceship, or make a new high score. I choose others things instead like win with a really early spaceship landing, or win with just one city, or win without fighting, or win solely with a government type I don't often play. The possibilities are endless...

Though I"ve had Civ II for a couple years now, my limited free time and penchant for micro-management means I've really only played a handful of games, and several of those were scenarios I was just trying out. I tried a Prince level game, but could never quite get ahead of the Souix. I finally quit when they started nuking my cities and were already ahead of me in building a spaceship, so I went back to Warlord. (a mistake, I realize now) About that time I discovered this site and learned what I was doing wrong. My current Warlord game is almost done, and I"ve totally kicked butt. I'll post in stories forum when it's done. I'll move on to Prince with confidence and keep moving up until I find a level that offers a good challenge that I can still beat. Having fun the whole time, anyway http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif
