Now, don't underestimate the dutch ability to lose or draw to inferior teams...

:D

Why?
It's a friendly game. Which means no effort and lackluster play for 88 minutes with perhaps, if you're lucky, 2 minutes of exiting football.... :D

I'm probably not even going to watch.... (I never watch friendlies anyway)...

You are just jealous!

I think the current selection has only 2 players that can be sure of a starting position (Van Nistelrooij & Stam). Therefor, the usual 'no-effort' won't apply.

I'll watch it.

Both countries bringing strong squads. Dutch usually enjoyable to watch. These are the types of friendlies (away, vs. stronger nation) the US needs to play in order to continue to improve.

Dutch 2 - US 0

No, I'm not....
What about Van der Sar? He may not be as good as he was a couple of years ago, but no other Dutch goalkeeper is even close.
Maybe you're right about the effort though. There are a lot of younger players around with something left to prove. No De Boer and Kluivert etcetera...
Maybe I'll just keep the TV on tonight, while playing civ. Jus maybe... ;)

I do not think goalkeepers are really linked to effort ;) .

BTW: I like the way Hugo Borst attacked v/d Sar last sunday. A professional goalkeeper should be prepared for penalty shoot-outs on a tourney.

I am not too impressed by Edwin anymore.

Van der Sar is an excellent keeper. He's been in superb for Fulham this season; I'd say he's one of the better keepers in the Premiership.

I was referring to the 96, 98 & 2000 tourneys, where we were kicked out by penalty shoot outs. Last sunday Van der Sar admitted he didn't prepare for shoot-outs.

I think that is very unprofessional.

His average penalty kill is a mere 5%, compared to the average 15%... That'd be something to work on, as a professional. To me, v.d. sar doesn't look like the eager sportsman that should represent our country. On the contrary, he has the same air as the "vedettes" that has costed us the qualification for the WC. His refusal of preparing for penalties is a clear example of this. The fact that he's still playing for Fulham is another.

I'd rather see a player who plays with more spirit, like Westerveld. They're screw up rate might be just as high.

I might turn the television on while drinking beer. It's wednesday after all.

Westerveld's on the bench in Spain. At least Van der Sar plays every week in England.
Though I'll immediately agree he should work on his penalty killing.

As usual Holland will win something completely meaningless to finally fail when it matters. :p

Wow, team USA had a full two shots on goal. Amazing. Amazingly bad, that is. Too bad Hollland didn't perform very well either: aside from Robben's personal great performance, the system wasn't leading to brilliant attacks. Pity. I always hope for some action with wingers on the pitch.

Overall, a boring match.

At the moment Robben scored, I was getting beer.....

There were pretty many Yanks in the stadium. We only boo-ed their anthem a tiny bit.

I don't think I will visit another friendly soon......

calm down, hes obviously a fan. and thats not entirely true, its just we have 4 other leagues to keep us occupied besides the one single sport that dominates many other countries.

3/13 US v. Haiti in Miami

So far, it doesn't look like it will be televised

I'm just stating facts. While it has grown in popularity among the younger generation, it lacks appeal to the overall populous. TV rating show you that, that's if it is televised at all. The MSL is an average league at best. However, I realize that's it growth potential has yet to be remotely reached and it will eventually pass hockey and then baseball in popularity.

willemvanoranje

yupz, football and basketball will be somewhat more difficult to pass, although we must bear in mind, that basketball used to be a very impopular sport as well...

NFL has a stranglehold, but its a good stranglehold :p

But I think if the US won something, or advanced as far as they did the last WC, people might become interested. Yes, i know, fairweather fans. But you gotta take whats given to you ;)

US vs Haiti, now that might get some ratings.

Anyone knows if this match is proceeding?

Zamphyr

Yes, as far as I know, it is. I believe the Hatian National Team stayed in Miami throughout the current uprising. I read an interview somewhere with the Hatian coach describing the teams emotions; at least one player lost his/his family's house in the rioting.

Also, AFAIK, the game will not be televised.
