Out of interest do you guys have different game preferences to me? Cause everytime I receive the sav there are animated moves and no music.

The music got old after the first few thousand hours.

Usually I play without music and only battles animated. I've the same problems with destroyed preferences after playing a PBEM-turn.

For this (and one other PBEM) I have a second 1.20 installation. Because I play no other games with this install and use it only for one or two PBEM-turns a week, I don't care about the preferences there. I take what I get from the previous player, and that's what you get from me.

I think there is no solution for this problem because everybody prefers different game preferences.

Or am I misunderstanding something (like it allways seems when I'm posting here :( )?

Yeah, I've been getting it with a few preferences that I don't care for, but I figure that the only way to fix it is changing it manually every time I receive the .sav, and I'm much too lazy for that.

Tweedledee, I think you're correct and understanding things perfectly :) Nobody knows of a way to keep preferences locally?

None that I've ever heard of...a second install is as good a way to go as any. I don't mind the animations, but the music pisses me off.

Your quite right tweedledee. I do have 2 installs already actually.

It's a shame the system doesn't save your preferences for PBEM games but I guess we have to put up with it. I suspect though that when the turns get larger with many more units moving, you'll probably turn of animate manual moves anyway. In any case the turns will be long enough to justify changing the preferences on your turn.

Coincidentally, those of you guys who have 2 installs I play from a folder Conquests v1.20 and when I overwrite saves the usual do you wish to overwrite text does not appear. Does this happen to you guys too? I play 1.22 from the Standard "Conquests" folder and I don't get this problem.

I have the same problem when I try to save over a save. There is no text there, only the little "O" where I can click. My guess is it's just one of those bugs that appeared with the new patch.

Could be if I name the folder Conquests it works correct though. Conquests must be a hard coded folder for the overwriting message or something.

I have a guess. Make sure you are not playing a game when you try to load the scenario. In other words, make sure you are looking at the main Civ screen and hit the load button. If you are playing a game and try to hit the little circle in the top that brings down the drop down menu and you select load game from there, it automatically selects a civ to load and not necessarily your civ. If that doesn't work, then the save needs to be sent to the game host and let him figure something out. Such as restart the turn.

An interesting idea, but not applicable. Our PBEM is the only Civ activity I have under 1.20, so I always load from the main screen. All my other Civ time takes place in my 1.15 and 1.22 installs...

Following Tweedledee's thought, I redownloaded the original .sav from my email. Only this time I did it to my desktop instead of a .sav folder and it worked!

I'm still not sure what happened, but I think I crossed my .sav folders between my three installs (1.15, 1.20, 1.22). How I did this multiple times in one day is beyond me, especially since I've been running a triple install ever since we upgraded, but hopefully this explains the trouble.

I don't know about the others, but I personally see no need for that. The email lag might get cured by a new address and isn't anyone's fault and you post often enough, i.e. giving us a heads up and what such. Has everyone got the email address of the next player stored outside this thread? I was just thinking we could possibly continue the game over the weekend even though the forums will be down for a few days...

Yes, I have Warload Sam's e-mail address. Both of them in fact! But the only problem is he's not getting any of my e-mail at either of his e-mails. He is the only person I have this trouble with, and I think I'm the only one he has the trouble with. Strange things are afoot...

It is peculiar, I've never had much trouble receiving them. The messages don't show up instantaneously, but many emails don't...

Dogboy, for my school account, you're not the only one who I have this problem with. The school's email accounts are absolute bull****, and do not receive emails a good 50% of the time. This is a relatively new problem, but is (becoming/already is) widespread.

As for the totally independent email server based in an entirely different area of the country, I have no idea why it is having problems as well. I have had several problems with not receiving emails to it, however these are from email accounts provided by the college, so I assume that they're not sending just as much as they're not receiving.

I can say for sure that I haven't had problems with any emails involving my verizon account and non-Concord College accounts. Yours is the first.
