It's been a while since i bought a computer or read anything about them. I have an old nvidia 32mb video card AGP 1x or 2x, i forget, Would this work in a motherboard that has a 4x agp slot?

It its an AGP card, it will go in an AGP slot. AFAIK, the 4x specifies the maximum speed that is supported, so it should work fine.:)

Great. I can upgrade my old desktop significantly for $100.00 (366mhz to 1.7ghz)

an old graphics card could pose more of a problem than it's worth tho.

Sorry, that is VERY bad advice.

Never motherboards require 1.5V AGP 4X cards ONLY. That is AGP 2.0 standard

1x/2x works on 3.3V. Which matches AGP 1.0 standard.

Usually it is physically imposible to put AGP 1/2x card in 4x board.

My apologies. I looked further and found that it may be OK. There are three AGP standards: AGP 1, AGP 2 and AGP Pro. The Pro will take a either. And some can handle different voltages.

Best to check and confirm, bit a new video card isn't very expensive anyway.

AGP PRO isn't necessary backward compatible... agp pro is extension of AGP slot, it just has more pins so more power can be given to video card.

My motherboard based od i875P chiset has AGP PRO 3.0 , but only 1.5V cards can be used.
