View Full Version : New unit: Elven Bolt thrower
aaglo Feb 21, 2004, 04:19 PM The special unit for elves: the ever-deadly bolt thrower
The included sounds are from the PTW japanese siege crossbow - and they seem to fit perfectly - because animation times and no. of frames are identical between this unit and the japanese siege crossbow.

Gogf Feb 21, 2004, 04:31 PM Second Post! Wonderful! Simply wonderful.
Phil Schneider Feb 21, 2004, 04:33 PM Looks great! Shut it be an elve ballista?
embryodead Feb 21, 2004, 05:19 PM Well, it's called Bolt Thrower... because it's Bolt Thrower ;)
Thanks, it goes immediately to new wh-mod :) I also like the new less-shiny coloring.
MarineCorps Feb 21, 2004, 06:34 PM Cool.:) That was fast.
IamsoUBER Feb 21, 2004, 07:04 PM Aaglo, for this and past works, I declare you a god! You rock!
Raw is War? Feb 21, 2004, 07:20 PM Great unit, and in record breaking time! :)
Aluminium Feb 21, 2004, 07:56 PM Looks cool! :goodjob: I did not have known that elves use such things.
Nwoll Feb 21, 2004, 08:09 PM Awesome unit Aaglo!
mrtn Feb 21, 2004, 08:15 PM Hey shouldn't this be located in the "Other Games" forum, or something? :p
Nice!
god_money Feb 21, 2004, 11:40 PM Sweeeeeet!!!
It can pass as Persian or Ottoman for me :D
Vuldacon Feb 22, 2004, 07:27 AM aaglo, The elves are Happy to have this New Unit and with sounds too! WOW, You are knocking out the Units lately and there is a Place for all of them. :goodjob:

Great
Units!
Whammer mod 2.0, is going to rock.
my 2 cents
tjedge1 Feb 22, 2004, 11:25 AM Excellent, now advanced artillery for the elves at last.
Xen Feb 22, 2004, 11:32 AM aesome :goodjob: (also your best quality little figure to date :goodjob:- have you ever concidered doing an actually trooper in his own right, with no peice of artillery to distract the plater from his quality?)
aaglo Feb 22, 2004, 02:21 PM @xen
heh, thanks. Well, I have done those three giants almost a year ago. But my human animating skills haven't gotten any better since then - they are a pain in the butt to animate with pov-ray with my animating skills
Sometime in the future I might think about doing somekind of human unit (but it's not very likely, since there are so many poser users who can do it with much better quality)
Xen Feb 22, 2004, 02:23 PM then sir, i suggest oyu Goblins, Dwarves, and Kobolds (another little nasty from the myths of Germania ;)) - where, because of size, quality in detail are not as important, but the general look, and feel of the units are :)
Ukas Feb 24, 2004, 04:11 PM Great great units and ships you've done lately! Man you work a lot! You are a star! (Hmm...have I said that already? Well, you are!) :worship:
tjedge1 Feb 24, 2004, 06:27 PM Kobolds would be useful to me, if you did those aaglo. Not an official request, just stating that there is a mod that would make them a home. ;)
aaglo Feb 24, 2004, 11:21 PM I know that Cobalt is an element (but I don't know what it looks like).
I know that Kobold is some sort of fantasy creature (but I don't know what it looks like).
All I think I know is that those two have nothing in common....

German miners thought that Kobalt was a small mountain troll/gnome/thingy that ruined the ore, turning it into (...wait for it... :mischief: ) Cobalt! :)
IIRC Nickel was also a troll/gnome/thingy.
But I have no idea what the fantasyheads like tjedge1 means by it...
Mr. Do Feb 25, 2004, 05:39 AM Kobolds are in the Warhammer mythology too. But they're basically no different from goblins.
Dann Feb 25, 2004, 06:42 PM Looking at the picture, the mechanism looks a lot like that of the chu-ko-nu, but scaled up and more elaborate. Can I use this for East Asian civs and call it "Repeater Bolt Thrower"? :)
Oh and BTW I like Warhammer too. Although so far all I've bought are the army books. (No space at home for models...:( )

The thing you mentioned about miners is how fantasy in the first place got influenced by goblins/kobolds/gnomes.
As many have noticed there always seems to be some kind of dwarven race of miners who have trouble with some other underground race.
About Elven Bolt Thrower...
Just wonderful unit!
Would really like to see warrior made of that soldier behind that thrower because his armor looks fantastic or is it already done?
Tsunami23 Apr 06, 2004, 08:48 PM I don't post a lot, even though I do visit this site often. I must say, this is easily the best looking unit I personally have seen here, but it is followed closely behind by some very good units, one including the "Drilla-Killa" since I laugh everytime I see its attack.
Thanks, and keep it up,
Tsunami23

Here's a pic and a description of them that was posted where I found this.

Hate and Spite
Kobolds are a common sight in many campaign worlds; deemed by most adventurers to be a minor nuisance at best. Certainly, most experienced adventurers would question the need to study kobolds in any great depth, but then, few have faced the full might of a kobold clan and lived long enough to warn others of the peril they offer. The Slayer's Guide to Kobolds offers insight to all adventurers in the culture and society of this vicious race, enabling them to track down, engage and wipe out dozens of these murderous beasts. It can only be hoped that such efforts will be enough to stall and drive back a race that is, almost literally, numberless.
No race in any campaign world, however, exists solely to provide cannon fodder for allegedly heroic aventurers. The Slayer's Guide to Kobolds redresses this imbalance by giving Games Masters the information they need to make kobolds a solid and coherent part of their campaign. No longer will players merely scoff and draw their swords when they meet a group of kobolds within some ancient ruin. Finally, kobolds will have the respect they have always deserved.
Dann Apr 07, 2004, 08:07 PM They're reptilian?! I always thought they were small humanoid wolves! :D
Guess I never bothered to take a closer look. After all, I was always the spellcaster lobbing fireballs from behind a wall of armor-clad warriors. Coward...
tjedge1 Apr 08, 2004, 06:40 AM They have a dog-like appearance and build, but they had scales and were hairless like reptiles. :) Maybe a wolf skeleton wrapped in a reptiles skin.
