One of my computers at work has a problem of launching popups when I don't have any browsers active! I use the google toolbar to prevent pops when the browsers running, but I can't install a full time dedicated suppressor as the powers that be would find out and don't like new software added.

Any ideas?

Have had one pop up with my whole time using it (4+ months). Ahh, sheer bliss . . .

Yeah, it just dawned on me I could download and install that and spybot, run them, then uninstall them and empty the recycling bin and my bosses would never know the difference...

And this would solve my problem how? The pop ups are occuring OUTSIDE of any browser...

Outside?!?! Ok, I am confused, but never mind, I cannot help you anymore anyway, other then to say an Adaware/Spybot combo should solve all of your problems. I just got Mozilla, and all my Pop up problems went away . . .

Even if I were allowed to put Mozilla on the machine it's used by 20 different employees on a daily basis. There's no way all of them would use just one browser.

I'll just have to hope they never find out I installed "unofficial" software and then deleted it since Adaware/Spybot have done wonders for me at home.

Possibly Windows Messenger Service popups, then. Here's a Microsoft article on how to stop them. Also, if you are getting them, then your computer is pretty exposed to all kinds of internet nastiness and I recommend getting a firewall of some sort ASAP.
