For some reason, pictures with the jpg extension are not displaying the image when I select Thubnails in the View menu of Windows Explorer - it just shows up as a blank square. Pictures with the jpeg extension, however, are displaying. How do I get jpgs to be vieable as thumbnails?

does it have anything to do with your file associations?

What bobgote said. What happens if you double-click a .jpg? Does it ask you waht to open it with? If so, select an appropriate program, and check the 'always open with this program' option.

Alternatively:
Open explorer, and from the 'tools' menu, choose 'folder options'.
On the form that comes up, click the 'File Types' tab.
A list of all known file extensions should appear.
Scroll down to 'jpeg', and click on it. This should show you what program jpeg files open with.
Click on jpg. Choose 'change', and set the file association (the program that opens the files) to be the same as for jpeg files.

the file association is that it opens in Paint - that's not the problem, sadly

well check the 3 file extensions - JPE, JPEG and JPG.
as in tools -> folder options -> file types.
just check that they're all the same, if not, try mucking around with that. other than that, no idea :)

you are running XP, yeah?
