View Full Version : CFC Adventures: Who Wants Some Super-Powers?
CivCube Feb 25, 2004, 08:17 PM The CFC ConQuest returns in a different form! I realize that having one long, drawn-out epic quest was just too time-consuming and not much fun. This way should be more efficient: instead of one game, various episodes will be played out one at a time with everyone invited to join at each. Players who don't want to participate in the next one don't have to, or they can take their character and play in a new quest. The worlds in these episodes should be much more fleshed out this time.
I have also decided to throw out my crappy combat rules and just stick to conventional 2nd edition basic D&D. If you are unsure about how to play, just PM me and I'll be glad to show you the ropes.
And now...for the first Adventure!
Who Wants Some Super-Powers?

CivCube Feb 27, 2004, 07:46 PM I might as well post it here:
Your character will be given certain numbers for characteristics (like Dexterity, Constitution, etc.) and an armor rating of 10 (I think so anyway, I'll look at the manual). Battles are played out just like Final Fantasy, with each side taking turns to attack. If an attack number rolled by special dice defeats your character's armor rating, you lose hit points according to the damage roll. Same goes for attacking the opposing side. Weapons are useful in that they may deal out more damage; better clothing will also give you a better armor rating. To play the game, you have to act like you are there. Such as:
CivCube: A spider looks cautiously at you.
You: I play a song to it in hopes that it will fall asleep.
CC: Why, so it does.
You: I squash it with a giant flyswatter.
CC: A successful attack. *rolls for damage* You killed it.
You: I walk over to the other side of the room.
CC: You see before you a chest....
And so on. I'll try not to be as dull as the example above, but I hope you have the general gist of what is going on. Don't worry, I'll update with character stats later.
Perfection Feb 27, 2004, 08:45 PM Name: Robo-Perfection
Powers: Is giant robotic killing machine, Bio-electric mind incapable of being read by telepaths
Non-superpower skills: Immense intelligence, massive ego!
CivCube Feb 27, 2004, 08:50 PM There we go! I'll post the first update tomorrow.
h4ppy Feb 28, 2004, 01:35 PM Where is this played. (if it required IRC then I will have to download/learn to use that)
Amenhotep7 Feb 28, 2004, 01:49 PM Amenhotep7 As Osiris: One Of The Best Performances In Years
What's the performances thing about?:hmm:
CivCube Feb 28, 2004, 02:00 PM It's just a joke. ;)
Posting soon....
WildFire Feb 28, 2004, 02:03 PM My name at work is Sarcastic Man. Weakness is Better Valu music (the stores music sucks) and my power is making very sarcastic remarks and subtle humor.
this isnt a sign up though ;)
CivCube Feb 28, 2004, 02:20 PM http://www.iacocca-lehigh.org/hongkong/indeximage/cityscape.jpg
Urbanopolis: a city of the future, a prime place for a fresh start. Millions live here in productive cooperation, making a name for themselves in day-to-day life. Ahh. Progress. Economic harmony. The heart of the city beats with capitalism...
...and with crime. Lots of it. Recently there have been reports of all sorts of baddies spreading fear throughout the community. It is now unsure whether Urbanopolis' children should play outside where they may be kidnapped by bad guys.
Bad guys, indeed. The city has not seen their like since the 1890s, where the citizens read about Victorian villains constructing robotic squids before being defeated by a certain Jules Verne....
All this is now in the past as the evil Doctor Cunning spins his web of grimy crime. If something heroic doesn't happen soon, his new Metro Muncher just might leave the city in ruins....
You find yourselves on the rooftop of a tall building. The view is incredible from up here; a glorious cityscape spreads out its urban jungle under a brilliant blue sky.
There is memory of how you all got here: some mad fellow wanted you to play a game for some reason....
With the amazing sight, there is also another that terrifies. In the distance to the west looms a gigantic black zeppelin with a not-so-subtle skull on the side. That has to be Cunning's HQ. What is he planning in there...?
To the east is a doorway leading to the floor below the roof. The door is locked at the moment, but you're superheroes, so this doesn't matter. Various institutions are noticeable interspersed throughout the city, such as the local newspaper building, the police station, City Hall, factories, museums. The city is so huge, the list goes on...what will you do first?
Perfection Feb 28, 2004, 02:32 PM First thing I do is get off the building, I don't want my immense weight from putting undue stress on the building! Then I'll fire a guided missle at the Zeppelin from my back mounted luancher! Then I treat myself to a hot wax!
CivCube Feb 28, 2004, 02:56 PM You look down from the top of the building. The commuting cars aren't even recognizable! If you were to jump now, the air resistance would melt you into tiny bits. However, the hot wax is extremely refreshing.
Amenhotep7 Feb 28, 2004, 03:00 PM The first thing I do is summon a djinni and charge him to infiltrate the HQ very discreetly and come back with information.
CivCube Feb 28, 2004, 03:07 PM You're still getting the hang of this, so the djinni does not appear for very long. Nonetheless, it manages to zoom all the way to the zepplin to the back. The spirit bows before Amenhotep7 and speaks in its language, "There is clearly something large in there. It appears to be a mechanical--" poof, and it's gone.
Amenhotep7 Feb 28, 2004, 03:25 PM Delete
Perfection Feb 28, 2004, 03:27 PM Damn, I'll have to climb down, this is going to be very costly to the building owners, but at least the building did't collapse! I wonder why it was so strong, with most buildings? If I stand on them, they'll collapse! I still better luanch that missle, and destroy the damned zeppelin!
Amenhotep7 Feb 28, 2004, 03:37 PM I'll have to get closer. I'll take the elevator down the building, and will head to a location closer to the zepplin. I need to find out what that mechanical thing is!
h4ppy Feb 28, 2004, 03:38 PM I punch through the door with my super strongness.
Amenhotep7 Feb 28, 2004, 03:39 PM Wait- Are we all posting out of turn? :hmm:
h4ppy Feb 28, 2004, 03:41 PM Beats me, but I'm not sure what order it is. I guess it's perf, then Amen, then I guess I'll be last. (lets face it just two people won't be enough to stop him)
Which leads to the question- does the GM post after each of our to say how it goes or after all of us.
CivCube Feb 28, 2004, 04:13 PM There isn't really any order. I'm acting as the "computer" for your characters.
A missile is shot out of Robo-Perfection's left arm cannon. It screams toward the zeppelin, hell-bent on destruction. Before reaching it, however, it vaporizes! Guess you'll have to destroy it from the inside....
A well-aimed punch to the door immediately shatters it. There are some stairs beyond the doorway. Light, jazzy music floats from within the well-lit passageway.
h4ppy Feb 28, 2004, 04:21 PM I go through the door and try to find my way to the ground.
Amenhotep7 Feb 28, 2004, 04:38 PM I reach a location closer to the zeppelin and summon a different, slightly more powerful djinni and give him the same charge.
puglover Feb 28, 2004, 04:49 PM I'll jump from rooftop to rooftop towards the zepplin so I can get a nice, well-aimed shot at it. My magical spear's tank-busting electrical energy should be enough to short-circuit the motor on the outside of the zepplin.
Perfection Feb 28, 2004, 05:08 PM Well, seeing I'm a massive robot, I don't think I can board the zepplin. After I'm finished climbing down the building and destroying millions of dollars in windows I'll go back to shop and fix all these friggin' paint scratches, then I'll go and work on adding more features. I'm almost finished with my ion drive upgrade, then I'll be able to fly!
CivCube Feb 28, 2004, 05:30 PM The second djinni returns to Osiris. "It is clearly a mechanical weapon of some sort. I am not sure what it does, but it looks geared for some sort of annihilation. However, there does not appear to be any way for thou to get over there at the moment." He glides over to the doorway and points down. "What I suggest is--" poof

Let me tinker with that. If we just rewire it like this, I think I can fix it in about an hour.
Perfection Feb 28, 2004, 06:04 PM It's not broken just incomplete, I got most of the components built, most of what I'm doing now is the assembly, these things are too big for anyone but me and possibly h4ppy to lift.
h4ppy Feb 28, 2004, 06:23 PM I get out of the building and head to a nearby military base.
CivCube Feb 28, 2004, 06:56 PM Originally posted by h4ppy

Hold your horses! You haven't passed through the building yet. Remember that this is like a text-based adventure game; the programming simply cannot let you jump to another location.
The hallway appears to be vacant, except for that incessant music. Another door awaits at the end of the green-walled passageway....
h4ppy Feb 28, 2004, 07:17 PM I would assume I was successful if you don't update me for two hours. Anyways I go through the door.
Amenhotep7 Feb 28, 2004, 07:35 PM Recalling that some spirits can tap into the forces of nature, I recall a spirit named Bodmin. He is able to conjur up a storm for a short time. I remebered that I needed to be in a very high place to summon him. I search for a very tall building, and my search ends at the...(Civcube's judgement is....)

My mistake; sorry if I offended you in any way. :)
Osiris' gaze finally falls upon the FalCorp building, the premier corporation that deals specially in cybernetics. A gold falcon clutching a bolt of lightning is the logo, which is embrazoned on the side.
The Man With The Plan goes through the door. The hallway appears to be vacant, except for that incessant music. Another door awaits at the end of the green-walled passageway....
h4ppy Feb 28, 2004, 08:36 PM The music sounds quite deadly, I try to punch through the floor to go to a lower level.
CivCube Feb 28, 2004, 08:39 PM You punch through the floor to reveal a work area through the hole. The music is louder now...suddenly, bullets are fired throught the hole!
"Aw jeez!" you hear. "It's the Civ Fanatics! GET THEM!!"
Rapid footsteps are heard at the end of the hall....
h4ppy Feb 28, 2004, 08:41 PM I stand behind the door and get ready to suprise the incoming dudes.
Amenhotep7 Feb 28, 2004, 09:38 PM I get into the building, and take the elevator to the roof.
(PLEASE don't make the elevator malfunction!:()
CivCube Feb 28, 2004, 09:41 PM You happen to exit the elevator at the top floor, just as the henchmen are coming up the stairs....
I have to sleep, so this will continue sometime tomorrow.
Amenhotep7 Feb 29, 2004, 08:35 AM I summon a couple of imps to distract them while I go to the roof to begin summoning.
puglover Feb 29, 2004, 12:43 PM I pick up the faint sound of gunshots. Seeing the villains rushing to the top floor, I use my superspear to levitate them into the air about ten feet. "Why are you shooting?" "I'z you! One o' da civfanatics!" Bullets fly at me but I drop the enemies so that they fall on the ground with great speed. They hit the ground, dropping their guns. Picking up the guns, I hurl them off the roof of the building to be smashed on the asphalt roads below.
"Who are you?" I ask.
CivCube Feb 29, 2004, 02:58 PM Let's not get ahead of ourselves. ;)
Updating, updating...
h4ppy Feb 29, 2004, 03:04 PM I surprise them from behind the door and punch peoples heads off.
CivCube Feb 29, 2004, 03:22 PM Several henchmen are levitated into the air as they try to break free. Several more are surprised by the The Man With The Plan and quite frankly lose their heads about it.
"Holy ****! FIRE!!!" They all fire at you! The Man and the Spearman both lose 4 hit points of damage each.
You all have 20 hit points, with the exception of puglover and h4ppy, who now have 16.
h4ppy Feb 29, 2004, 04:08 PM I grab a gun and shoot people. Also I try to dodge bullets.
CivCube Feb 29, 2004, 04:23 PM This surprise move cause two henchmen to lose 3 hp and one to lose 4 hp. They fire back, hitting the Man (-1 hp) and Spearman (-2).
10 henchmen left: maximum hp 6.
Lord Paul Feb 29, 2004, 05:50 PM EDIT: I'll just watch
puglover Feb 29, 2004, 05:52 PM "I guess you won't answer me then." I say as bullets nick my skin. "OW! CIVFANATICS ASSEMBLE! WE NEED BACKUP!" I'll shoot blasts of electrical energy at the henchmen.
CivCube Feb 29, 2004, 06:10 PM The blasts successfully incapacitate the henchmen--for now. However, Super Spearman is now drained of magic energy and will replenish in ten battle rounds.
Now the hallway is silent once more, save the music and the slowly-growing roar of commotion from below....
h4ppy Feb 29, 2004, 06:14 PM Are we allowed to do illegal things in this game. (If so then I kill all the incapacitated henchment) (If not then I bend wires around to make a cage for them like superman does in the comics) Also I reload my gun and put extra bullets in my pockets.
CivCube Feb 29, 2004, 06:19 PM I won't stop you from doing illegal stuff, but I'd also like to keep the superhero atmosphere from deviating too much. It's your call.
puglover Feb 29, 2004, 06:26 PM I guess I'll take one of the guns. And I'll stuff my pockets with ammo.

h4ppy Feb 29, 2004, 06:47 PM I decide to go with the superman cage form steal bars idea instead of killing the guys.
Perfection Feb 29, 2004, 11:43 PM I step on those baddies and crush them with my giant robo-feet!
Erik Mesoy Mar 04, 2004, 07:13 AM Is there still space to join this?
And are mages allowed, or must the superpowers be modern?
CivCube Mar 04, 2004, 05:35 PM Hmm...I don't see why not. A couple of people don't appear to be playing right now. The superpowers indeed should be modern. Post your character and I'll put it up. :)
Perfection Mar 04, 2004, 05:51 PM Can I haze them?
Amenhotep7 Mar 04, 2004, 07:07 PM I get to the top of the FalCorp building and summon Bodmin. I charge him with the order to bring down the zeppelin with his mastery of weather, at all costs.
Erik Mesoy Mar 05, 2004, 02:04 PM Ok, then I'll be Oitur: The Shadow.
Superpower skills: Shadow Shield (invisible unless in direct light) and Power Hand (point at somebody and knock them 10 feet backwards). Cannot use the second while the first is active.
Non-superpower skills: Extreme dexterity (throwing, climbing, dodging, catching etc.), thick skin.
So now what? I guess I should go and find the other heroes.
Erik Mesoy Mar 08, 2004, 12:21 PM Dead?
h4ppy Mar 08, 2004, 03:05 PM CivCube needs to update us.
CivCube Mar 08, 2004, 04:09 PM Homework has been kicking in lately. :crazyeye: I'll try to update tomorrow.
CivCube Mar 09, 2004, 01:10 PM Out of the shadows of the hallways comes Oitur: The Shadow to join forces with the other Super Fanatics!
Osiris tries to get to the FalCorp building, but to his dismay finds a force field surrounding the roof. He summons the spirit Bodmin anyway to go attack the zeppelin. It might not do much, but it will help a little.
Meanwhile, the hallway is still empty with a door at the end and a hole in the floor. What do you do?
Perfection Mar 09, 2004, 08:03 PM FalCorp is bad! I will crush FalCorp with my shiny metal fist!
h4ppy Mar 09, 2004, 09:29 PM I also crush FalCorp with my fist.
Perfection Mar 09, 2004, 10:25 PM Hey! I called it first!
Amenhotep7 Mar 10, 2004, 05:51 AM I wait and watch Bodmin do his thing.
Erik Mesoy Mar 10, 2004, 09:12 AM Oitur switches off his Shield, remaining in the shadows. "Hi guys... so just what are we doing now?" I slip off towards the door, point at it, look stupid as nothing happens, then look around for the light switch so that I can safely walk up to and through the door.
Do I find the light switch?
CivCube Mar 10, 2004, 06:09 PM Sure do. The hallway is now bathed in a sterile light. The doorway reveals another flight of stairs leading down to the next level.
Bodmin is unable to make any serious damage, but he manages to find out that there is a giant creature inside the zeppelin.
Erik Mesoy Mar 11, 2004, 11:50 AM OK, I walk through the doors, call for the other Civfanatics to follow me, then ask for a plan.
Idea: Capture some enemy guys
Torture them into giving up information
Go look for the secret acess thingy or whatever (When there's an evil villan with a master plan, he will have a stupid secret access thing.)
Take it
Go destroy the evil machine
Capture the mad scientist.
What do we do? Can you give some NPC or spirit-voice advice? Are we just supposed to find out how to get to the zeppelin?
Amenhotep7 Mar 11, 2004, 12:13 PM I survey the zeppelin for a very long time, looking for ANY possible way to get in. My gaze is drawn to...
CivCube Mar 11, 2004, 01:26 PM A small figure is seen flying out of the bottom of the zeppelin. Meanwhile, a djinn is summoned by no one in particular. He looks remarkably like CivCube...
"Ahhhhh yes!" he says. "How are ye to get to the zeppelin? Simple: explore! Surely thou wilt findest a way there..." poof
Amenhotep7 Mar 11, 2004, 01:33 PM I curse at the djinni under my breath. ( You could have been more helpful.:p) Then have decided that the best way would be to get into a building. As it passes, I jump onto the zeppelin. Once I'm on the zeppelin, I'll probe around, and find an enterance.
Then I'm like: What the heck am I thinking?! I know what to do! I'll see if this evil guy has any buddies on the ground who can tell me the exact way one is to board this floating behemoth.:D
Erik Mesoy Mar 11, 2004, 01:48 PM I cut the central lighting for the whole building so that I can get out. Then I walk over to a bar and start offering drinks for information.
h4ppy Mar 12, 2004, 12:04 AM I go with the others.
puglover Mar 12, 2004, 10:29 AM I'll try to reenergize my spear.
CivCube Mar 12, 2004, 06:35 PM You finally manage to get out of the building. To your left down the street a bit is the police station. To the right is some 80s nostalgia restaurant (guess ;) ). Ahead is a comic book shop.
Amenhotep7 Mar 12, 2004, 06:43 PM I go with my gut feeling to the nostalgia restaraunt. (So many criminal masterminds have been born out of 80s nostalgia restaraunts;))
h4ppy Mar 12, 2004, 06:47 PM I go to the restraunt too. I order three cheeseburgers and eat them.
h4ppy Mar 12, 2004, 06:47 PM Also hold the onions!
CivCube Mar 12, 2004, 10:06 PM h4ppy's health is fully restored. Still, you have barely sat down when a waiter in a horrifically-dressed outfit skates up to you in roller skates.
Orange roller skates.
"Hiiii! What kin I getcha?" You notice that he's not dressed like the other waiters...at least they don't have orange roller skates.*
*They're still dressed in a garish manner, just not nearly as damning as this fellow.
h4ppy Mar 13, 2004, 01:46 AM Punch him.
Erik Mesoy Mar 13, 2004, 03:57 AM I go to a different table at the restaurant and order a drink, slip the waiter ¤20, and ask who I could ask about the zeppelin...
Amenhotep7 Mar 13, 2004, 02:41 PM I slip him a $50 and ask him about the zeppelin.:p
Erik Mesoy Mar 13, 2004, 03:01 PM Lol, quicker than what I did, and breaking some of the most fundamentally unwritten rules. Oh well, fundamentally unwritten rules can't be very serious to break, can they?
Perfection Mar 13, 2004, 08:13 PM I get bored and smash the 80's restaruant to bits!
CivCube Mar 13, 2004, 08:48 PM In the midst of the rubble, the waiter slowly comes to consciousness. "The zeppelin? The only person who can help you with that is Chief Jones. He's down the block a bit. Thanks to your friend, I think he'll be here soon." He falls back to unconsciousness.
h4ppy Mar 13, 2004, 09:46 PM Find and eat cheeseburgers in the reckage, if Chief Jones arrives see what he says and if he attacks shoot him in the legs and punch him in the arms.
Amenhotep7 Mar 14, 2004, 06:01 AM I summon a djinni as back up, just in case Chief Jones tries to make a run for it. I too wait for Chief Jones.
Erik Mesoy Mar 14, 2004, 10:11 AM :satan: whoah, weren't we HEROES? :devil2:
 :mwaha: :die:  :mischief: :soldier:
Well, if it's for the good of the city...
Oitur slips off to the police station to start poking through any "zeppelin" files while the Chief is out, either to get more info or discover collaboration by police.
Perfection Mar 14, 2004, 11:22 PM I smash the police station
h4ppy Mar 14, 2004, 11:24 PM Hahaha
Erik Mesoy Mar 15, 2004, 02:46 PM Will you stop that???
Perfection Mar 15, 2004, 04:27 PM Fine fine
I'll start smashing city hall instead
CivCube Mar 15, 2004, 08:59 PM Chief Jones comes by to check out what's up. The first thing he notices is the ragtag bunch that is you; the second is the wreckage formerly known as Micheal Jackson's Emporium of Neverland Restaurant.
"Well, I guess you are the 'heroes'." He says this with a distasteful sniff at the rubble. "More or less, right on schedule. What do you need to know?"
h4ppy Mar 15, 2004, 09:06 PM I say tell us about the blimp, the company thing, the building, and also the music.
While he tells me stuff I go around and PUNCH people in the face.
Erik Mesoy Mar 15, 2004, 11:25 PM What do I find in the police files?
Perfection Mar 16, 2004, 06:26 AM I need to know a good reason why I shouldn't smash him.
Erik Mesoy Mar 16, 2004, 10:37 AM Because then it would be very hard to get any information from him.
Amenhotep7 Mar 16, 2004, 02:17 PM I say, "Sir, we would like to know a few things:
1) What is this evil dude in the zeppelin planning?
2) How do we get into the zeppelin when it's not on the ground?
3) What is the correlation between FalCorp and the evil dude in the zeppelin?"
CivCube Mar 16, 2004, 05:49 PM "First of all, the music you are hearing is the official anthem of Urbanopolis, as decided from a 1997 poll voted on by over three million people.
"We believe from various sources that Doctor Cunning is planning to use a nuclear weapon of some sort. At the moment we can't prove that he has anything, on account of all the evidence being in that zeppelin you see up there. He's got a license to use it too; in 1987 he was given the Hindenburg Award for Excellent Flying. However, that shouldn't stop you heroes from going up there to see what the hell is going on up there.
"There is no normal way to get up to the ship when it's not on the ground. In fact it's never on the ground! Cunning has got the thing hooked up so that it's on unlimited power--don't ask, I know it's impossible too.
"The Urbanopolis police force has not found anything between FalCorp and Cunning, although there is definitely something fishy going on. A French man named Merro Vingian runs the corporation. Their front business is medicine. Who knows what else they are doing? My advice is scope around town to find any clues pertaining to this mystery. Check back with me if you need help."

Perfection Mar 16, 2004, 05:58 PM That's all well and good, but why shouldn't I crush you like a bug?
CivCube Mar 16, 2004, 06:03 PM Chief Jones looks up at Robo-Perfection's hull. "Because if you do, my lifelink to the earth will fail, causing the universe to implode on itself and be thusly imperfect. Hop to it, gentlemen! The city isn't going to exist forever as long Doctor Cunning is up there!"
h4ppy Mar 16, 2004, 06:16 PM Who is Doctor Cunning, also what are the answers to the other questions.
CivCube Mar 16, 2004, 06:20 PM Doctor Cunning is the arch-nemesis of this adventure. I already answered the other questions in the chief's monologue.
h4ppy Mar 16, 2004, 06:29 PM Woops, missed that. I go to an abortion clinic to check for clues about Fal Corp.

CivCube Mar 16, 2004, 07:55 PM The Chief grimaces as he attempts to crawl back to City Hall on his torso and arms. "Urbanopolis thanks you for your efforts, but when this is all over I'll see you in court!"
The Man With A Plan goes over to the nearest abortion clinic as soon as he squeezes through the fundamentalist protestors. Inside, he asks for any connections to FalCorp. The nurse only shakes her head. "We don't deal with such crooks here. Try the pharmacy across the street."
Perfection Mar 16, 2004, 08:01 PM Teach him for being a corrupt cop!
Amenhotep7 Mar 16, 2004, 08:17 PM The Man With A Plan tells me about the clinic, so I tag along there, too. I summon the spirit named Farid, known for his good jobs of defending towns, palaces and whatnot over the centuries, to guard the outer doors of the pharmacy to tell me if he sees anybody suspicious.
puglover Mar 17, 2004, 03:27 PM What and where is the main power source of the zepplin?

Ha ha, you know about them, tell me all you know about them or I will punch people. (but not the pregnant ladies, unless they want help with their abortions, in witch case I punch them)
Erik Mesoy Mar 18, 2004, 01:43 PM I visit a hospital to X-Ray the Deku Nut (I'm assuming there's something special about it) and then a science facility to get radiation testing on it. If nothing happens, I am to blast it with my superpower. Let's see if it glows in the dark or anything.
