Hi,

I don't know if anyone's had this problem, but when I used to play vanilla Civ 3 on my brother's desktop I was able to use the arrow keys to move my units around. Now that I play on my laptop, I've found that when I try using the arrow keys, the whole screen moves instead of moving just the unit. I've tried looking for an option that deals with the keyboard settings, but to no avail.

I've had this problem playing both vanilla Civ 3 and Conquests. Can someone please tell me how to fix it? My hand cramps after a while having to move units around (even stacked units) using my small laptop mouse. Thanks!

Is this the arrow keys specifically, or the numberpad? Have you tried changing the scroll lock or the Num lock toggle keys?

I have a laptop, so the arrow keys are separate from the number keys. It's the arrow keys that don't work.

Have a look in the control panel under 'accessability' -> there may be a setting there for arrow keys. :hmm:

I thought that by default, at least, the arrow keys moved the map/screen, while the number keys moved the units.

So there's no way then, to move the units using the arrow keys? Or is there a way to change the default settings?

i am also having this problem. has this been figured out?

for civ III it was no problem, the four arrow keys in the bottom right corner of my laptop and the pgup, pgdn, home and end keys for the diagonals. just installed civ IV and not working.

Anyone know how to fix this?

To clarify, I am able to move units with the numbers (with Num lock on) but as i have a laptop, the numbers are across the top of the keyboard and its quite awkward.

I cant seem to find place to adjust the keyboard settings.

Is there any way to change the designations to the arrow keys and pgup, pgdn, etc??

I had the same problem, but i turned num lock off, and now the arrow keys work fine, so i suggest trying that.

Has anyone tried using the Fn key? If you have a laptop, you have a function key, usually on the left side between Ctrl and Alt. It lets you use the keys on your keyboard that are colored differently under the main keys. You can use the colored numbers keypad in the middle of the keyboard that way, I've had a few different laptops and it always worked for me.
