My previous attempt at a...game report thingy didn't turn out so well. It was boring to play, write, and [worst of all] READ. So, I have ditched it, essentially, and started over with a new style and focus. This game is as Japan [referred to as Nippon] and, hopefully, should prove more entertaining than the previous one.

Second Regent Attempt – Rise of Nippon

Part 1: Nippon’s Birth

For as far back as they could remember, the Kyoto tribes had been warring amongst themselves. Every generation had fought constantly against their brethren in the nearby tribes. Every generation came to see tribes born, merge, break, and die. Until this generation.

A man named Tokugawa Takechiyo, leader of the tribe called Nippon, united five powerful tribes to create the Nipponese Confederacy. The remaining tribes were forced to swear eternal allegiance to Nippon. Half a generation later, Tokugawa the Second founded a mighty town, far more defensible than any of the tiny villages and encampment previously used, and declared himself supreme ruler of Nippon! This town, named after the first tribe to enter the Nipponese Confederacy and founded upon the shores of the River Niigata, made the people very proud – they had advanced above simple barbarianisms and become civilized peoples!

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/BirthofKyoto.JPG And so Nippon is born unto the world.

A single generation passed and Tokugawa III set about the taming of horses near the city. He had designed a spectacular and fast device that used an invention the Nipponese had known of for centuries [called the “wheel”] that could provide them with a great speed advantage over the barbarians who lived nearby. Workers were sent to tame the animals and be used for chariots.

As work was being done to make chariot weapons a reality, Tokugawa III had begun the training of the first true military. Unlike the barbarians, attacks would be coordinated through a leader and soldiers would be led in formation. They would be taught in the ways of the Bushido code and live their lives according to it.

Within a generation or two, Tokugawa III’s plan for an organized military had yielded two elite units of soldiers, the Kyoto I and II Corps. Kyoto I was considered the Elite Barbarian Hunter force of the state, and Kyoto II the Elite Guard Force.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/NipponGrowth.JPG The Fertile Lands look like a good place to go...

Soon, many Nipponese were beginning to feel cramped in the space of Kyoto. They were calling for the foundation of a second city. Tokugawa VI declined, saying that the creation of the first Chariot force to be more important. He declared that the Fertile Lands to the West, along the shores of the Niigata, would be the foundation point of a new town.

Soon, the first Chariot force was armed! With its amazing speed, it was indeed the greatest accomplishment the Nipponese had accomplished to that point! Not long after, preparations for migration to the Fertile Lands had begun.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/Nippon!.JPG Behold the Chariot!

Suddenly, people in Nippon had found something that seemed so obvious. They, for the first time, baked molded clay to create containers, bowls, plates, and even decorations. They could now store food for the Cold Seasons, when the Fluffy Ice fell from the sky. Hunger would be much less a problem during the Cold Seasons, and fewer would die…

Horrific news came to the palace of the Tokugawa family. Charioteers had come across a vast expanse of thick, rainy forests. They could not get ten footsteps inside with the chariots, it was so thick, and they barely could get farther on foot. And so, they turned back. This horrible place had been called “jungle” and had been proclaimed “unlivable”. The Charioteers were instructed to head farther east and to ignore the Great Jungle. On the bright side, however, friendly barbarians known as the Ku****es taught warriors of Nippon how to use a warfare art called “archery”.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/Great_Jungle_Nippon!.JPG The thick jungles block the glorious Charioteers from moving farther!

And as soon as the first settlers migrated from Kyoto to settle in the great Fertile Lands, a corp of highly organized soldiers was discovered by the Charioteers in the far east. They belonged to a place calling itself Zululand and were very dark-skinned. They also appeared to be fierce and intelligent warriors, the corp leader’s eyes showing fierce cunning and shrewd leadership ability. Soon, a diplomat from their leader, Great Chief Shaka, came forward to the Charioteers and offered knowledge of a strong metal called “bronze”…in exchange for information of the device called the wheel. At first, it seemed foolish to give the Zulu the wheel, but when it was shown what bronze was capable of, the trade seemed entirely fair and, perhaps, in Nippon’s advantage. Nippon had entered the Bronze Age.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/Zululand_Contact.JPG There are other civilized peoples in the world...?

Not long afterwards, another tribe, one far less advanced than Zululand or Nippon, came to Kyoto and taught the people about something called an “alphabet” in exchange for citizenship. The name of the tribe was never discovered, but they looked to have come from the lands of Uzbek in the south, where many wars were fought between barbarians.

Finally, the city of Osaka was founded on the shores of River Niigata in the heart of the Fertile Lands. Nippon wasn’t just a Bronze Age city-state, now…it was a Bronze Age nation-state.

Part 2: Zululand’s treachery

Many generations passed and the Tokugawa dynasty continued. Then, contact was made with the Aztec peoples to the east. Unlike the Zulu, the Aztec were nearby, their cities viewable by the Charioteer unit that discovered them. A small temple-like building stuck up from the center of the nearest city, called Teotihuacan, and appeared to be a triangle with steps. Later it was discovered that this building design was called a “step pyramid”, and several would be built in Nipponese lands as the years passed.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/Aztecdiscovery.JPG

A grand discovery was made much later. The Charioteers came across another massive expanse of water, dubbed the “Eastern Great Water”. It seemed to the Nipponese that the world was, indeed, a giant island in an infinite sea as some legends suggested! On the other side of the known world, a warrior corp was leaving from Osaka in the Fertile Lands to explore the Barren Lands and see what may lie beyond their swelteringly hot conditions.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/GreatEasternWaters.JPG

Not long after the discovery of advanced masonry techniques, the Zulu sent one of their mighty Warrior Corps into Nipponese territory. It was demanded that they leave or else, as it was unknown whether the Zulu were truly a threat or not.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/ZuluThreat.JPG

And then the Zulu declared war for no reason. Tokugawa was FURIOUS! This was an unprovoked assault! The Nipponese had done nothing to the Zulu! They were going to pay for this insolence! A corp of Zulu warriors attacked Kyoto, attempting a direct strike, but fell to the city’s spearmen. Another corp pillaged the stables and released the mighty Nipponese horses into the wild once more. Countermeasures were prepared…the first wave of Zulu warriors would be dealt with, then a scout force shall seek out Zulu lands. After discovering their locations, an assault force of Charioteers would follow up, softening the enemy until the infantry of archers, warriors, and spearmen arrived.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/DemonicZulu!.JPG

A huge assault on Kyoto was launched by three corps of Zulu warriors. They attacked in two waves, getting slaughtered by archers as they attempted to cross the North River Niigata and impaled by Spearmen when they got across. The third corp did not move forward, knowing itself outmatched. No good commander would send soldiers into a meat grinder as powerful as that. Then the Archer units struck back. Fording the river, they assaulted from a distance as best they could until coming to the other side and hitting them at point blank. In the end, however, the assault failed and the archers were scattered and defeated by the Zulu warriors. Scouts say more are coming from the far north, as well. This prompted the building of a fortification around Kyoto to aid defenses in the future…

Zulu territory had been discovered in the north! The treacherous cretins were going to face a force they had not expected – Zululand may have been the superpower of the known world, but Nippon wasn’t going to back down.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/ZululandDiscovered!.JPG

As the conflict with the Zulu began to intensify with an [unsuccessful] assault on Hlobane, two new cities were founded! To the east, Edo was founded on the edge of the River Niigata and to the southwest Tokyo was created a distance from the Death Marshes…enough to make the people comfortable.

And soon after, the war appeared to be hitting a standstill, Zululand obviously in the midst of planning something big. Nippon didn’t have the manpower to send soldiers to fight immediately…and charioteers weren’t overly effective for anything but speed. However, contact with a civilization from Beyond the Great Jungle and Death Marshes would bring a brand new technological marvel that would give the Nipponese an advantage in this war…

This war against a superpower.

Part 3: The Might of Zululand! Devastation comes upon Nippon!

As the war against Zululand and Nippon came to a standstill, the Zulu incapable of budging the Nipponese defenses and the soldiers of Nippon being too scattered and disorganized to launch a true, effective counterstrike. The Shogun was on the verge of calling the war quits and making peace with Zululand before they attacked with a GOOD attack force when a mysterious group of warriors appeared from beyond the Great Jungle.

They came from a land they called “Celtia” and were very light skinned, much like the French. They claimed peaceful intentions and offered to teach soldiers of the Nipponese [they, like everyone else, referred to it as Japan for some reason] warriors an art which they had not considered possible – Horseback Riding. Soldiers mounted on horseback wielding spears were more powerful on the attack than those in chariots, and just as fast. Chariots had just become obsolete.

With this newfound knowledge, and the pledged friendship of the Celtic people, Tokugawa ordered the creation of many, many Horseman corps. Any advantage against the Zulu was welcome…Shaka’s hordes were numerous, and his empire the greatest in the known world.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/ZuluInvasion.JPG Zulu troops invade!

And then the whole world seemed to collapse. Zulu Impi pushed through the Nipponese border and, instead of attacking Kyoto head on, went south to Tokyo. There, they seized the small city and expelled the tiny garrison of archers and spearmen. Not even the walls around the city could protect it from the Zulu hordes.

Then the mysterious calm came. The Zulu warriors who had been poised to attack Kyoto had not come. They hadn’t approached the city. Then word came out: Celtia was at war with Zululand! Now the mighty empire had to fight two enemies…hopefully, the Celts would provide a good distraction for the Zulu until the assault on Hlobane began.

Many years passed. Tokyo had not been recovered. Hlobane still stood in Zulu control. Zululand had horsemen and swordsmen and continued to rain destruction down on the Nipponese. They would only allow peace if the Nipponese people surrendered Edo to them, and that was not going to happen. Not with Shogun Tokugawa XVII in charge. He began construction in Edo of a great statue – a statue of a great God. A God which could draw in many, many warriors…

Then seemingly-great news came in. Tokyo, the city captured by the Zulu, had been taken by the Celtic Swordsmen. The catch was…the Zulu had burned it to the ground before they could save its citizenry. Everyone, even the Zulu citizens, had died…

Such a massacre could not be accepted…but Zululand continued to pound Nippon into submission. Superior numbers and soldiers were forever attacking Nipponese! Endless streams of soldiers…how was the ancient and glorious Nipponese people supposed to survive!? The stables holding the Nipponese horses were broken open once again…several groups of settlers – DEFENSELESS SETTLERS – had been killed by Zulu soldiers…

And as if things couldn’t get any worse, Zululand captured Edo. Nippon was reduced to Osaka and Kyoto…the world was collapsing around the once-proud Nipponese people! The great statue project was dismantled in Edo, as well. Peace was the only answer…but would Shaka grant them peace?

He would not. Not without surrendering Osaka to them. Nippon would die before surrendering a city to infidels like the Zulu!

To assure the survival of the Nipponese people, Tokugawa XVII sent a group of settlers to live deep in the Great Jungle, near Aztec territory. Satsuma was founded on the edge of an unnamed river in the harsh jungles…far from Zululand’s reach.

At long last, the war ended. Settling for the hamlet of Satsuma near Aztec territory, Shaka finally allowed the Nipponese people to remain free. The war had devastated Nippon. Two of its cities were gone, one burned to ashes, the other in Celtic hands [taken from the Zulu]. Nippon was no longer prideful, no longer full of itself. Generations of war had destroyed that along with its supposed might…

Nippon was dying…

Part 4: Reconstruction and Ambition

Time passes. Wounds heal, scars fade. Nippon begins to rebuild its infrastructure, first repairing the pillage terrain around Kyoto. Then by sending settlers from Osaka in the Fertile Lands, which was spared from battle the entire war, to settle on an old Aztec city site in the Great Jungle, which rested on the banks of an unnamed lake. Kagoshima is founded here, integrating what was left of the Aztec ruins and building atop them. The founder of Kagoshima later named the lake after his daughter, Ryoko.

Meanwhile, war seethes across the lands. France and Azteca form an alliance against the mighty Celtic people, whom had made peace with Shaka not that long ago. Nippon had no interest in being anything but neutral – war had ravaged their lands too much to consider doing anything but repairing…

Then word finally came in. The statue was COMPLETED! After the initial project had been destroyed by the Zulu after capturing Edo, the grand statue of the God named Zeus was finally produced in Kyoto! Great warriors flocked to pray to him for strength! And to match that achievement, the statue itself gave great confidence to the people of Nippon, who had lost it all during the War of Zulu Aggression. The Golden Age of Nippon had begun!

In the Northern Fertile Lands, Nara was founded in 50 BC. Just in time, as well, for Germanic and Zulu settlers were approaching the spot as well. Nippon had defeated the Zulu at SOMETHING, finally.

Soldiers began to build up at the southern borders Nippon. Nipponese Cavalry and Archers. An assault on the southern empire of Babylon, which was only marginally more powerful than Nippon, was being prepared. Nippon had no room to expand – its neighbors had swallowed up the land around it. The only way to expand and become stronger was to war for it.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/PreparingForWar.JPG The forces of Nippon have recovered much...and their sight is set on the Babylonian Empire to the south.

A new great project, a great Mausoleum, was produced in Kyoto the year 150 AD. With such a magnificent burial center for all people of Kyoto, unhappiness in the city almost vanished overnight.

News had come to the Tokugawa palace. Zululand had entered a new era. Many civilizations had entered a new era! Nippon was incredibly backwards!

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/O_O.JPG How many cities had Zululand founded!?

Rioting came to the land of Nippon. The recent ousting of a Tokugawa Shogun by an upstart rebel has led to a revolution. Led by the former Shogun, the Tokugawa faction fights to form its own imperial state. The revolution ends with a showdown between the rebel, a man who referred to himself as simply “Lord Ashigaru”, and the former Shogun. In the end, Tokugawa won and had Ashigaru on the run, but never captured him – Ashigaru died by his own hand before he allowed himself to be captured.

With the end of the revolution, the Tokugawa Dynasty entered a new era – Monarchy had come to Nippon! No longer a mere Shogun, but an Emperor!

War was declared on Babylon in the year 450 AD. Uruk was took that same year, its garrison being decimated by the fierce Ancient Cavalry of Nippon. Many civilizations that Nippon had only heard of but not made contact with, among them the Carthaginians, were fighting with Babylon. With multiple fronts to take care of, Babylon likely wouldn’t be as prepared for the Nipponese assault.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/Battle_Plans.JPG The current plans of the Nipponese War Council on the Babylonian invasion.

At least, that’s what the Emperor hoped…

Part 5: Babylon sues for peace! Nippon enters the Middle Ages.

[Author's Note: I apologize for the shortness of this, but it was a pretty short war in and of itself.]

The year 500 rolls around and the war to take Babylonian territory had been fruitful to an extent. Three Babylonian cities, Uruk, Eulbar, and Samarra, were under the control of the Nipponese. Though there continued to be resistance in some cities, Emperor Tokugawa thought the progress fruitful. Attack Force II, consisting mostly of Ancient Cavalry, had been weakened fairly by the assaults on Uruk and Samarra. On the other hand, Assault Force I had taken Eulbar with fairly small casualties.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/Operation_CONQUERBABYLON.JPG

A seeming attempt by the Babylonians to counterattack proved for naught as a veteran Ancient Cavalry unit ripped a battalion of swordsmen apart. Promoted to elite status, they were now among the most well-trained soldiers in the entire Nipponese army. The two Attack Forces were coming together, as well, into one major force with which to assault Babylon. Though the Catapults which had proven to be useful in the capture of Eulbar would be left behind in Samarra to help hold down the city, the rest of the force would move on.

Meanwhile, most of the other civilizations were far stronger than Nippon, and still demanded tribute. The Nipponese gave into these threats, but they would remember them. Should they ever have the power to seek revenge…

The Babylonian commanders of the Iron City of Ashur could only watch as a massive attack force of 12 battalions of horse-mounted soldiers approached the city from the north and moved across the River Hammurabi and positioned themselves to the east. The commanders had HOPED the Nipponese warriors would attack from across the river, so that they would receive a defensive advantage. Turns out the Nipponese were smarter than that. Ashur fell within days, though the Spearmen units defeat two of the Horseman battalions. However, not a one could defeat the mighty Ancient Cavalry battalions.

It was then seen that Babylon was preparing a massive counterassault. Utilizing their most devastating units, armored Bowmen, they were approaching the recently captured city of Ashur. It must have been Hammurabi’s elite defense force, for the great city of Babylon could be seen from the hills, just across the jungle. The Babylonians must have been getting desperate

Then Hammurabi sent an emissary to Nippon. “Call off your assault, please, and we shall pay to you the knowledge of Literature and Currency, as well as all the gold within our treasury?” Such a deal had never been expected of the Babylonians. Had the Nipponese TRULY crippled them so badly? The peace was accepted. Nippon had entered a new era from this technology.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/ResultsofBabylonWar.JPG

The war had been a success. Four cities captured and thoroughly defended, Iron and Spices obtained, and two technologies and a sum of gold retrieved. No longer was Nippon weak and pathetic. Now it was time to secure the holdings, increase the military, and look towards a declining power…

Celtia.

Part 6: The Fall of Celtia! Marching on the streets of Babylon!

The Great Jungle. Vast and mysterious, it has been inhabited by the resourceful and powerful Aztecs for centuries, remaining unmapped by the Nipponese for a great deal of time. Only as a last resort had the city of Kagoshima been founded…it had since grown into a fairly prosperous city, jungle being cut down to make room for useful land.

Now, the Nipponese were finally out to explore it. For, on the other side of this jungle lay Celtia. Once mighty, Celtia had since become as weak as Nippon after the war with Zululand. Now, Nippon was to rid itself of one of its rivals and secure a foothold on the other side of the Great Jungle…the Land of the Unknown.

A force of many, many Ancient Cavalry and Horsemen were on their way through the jungle, slowed down immensely by both it and the borders of Azteca, which obstructed the way to Celtia quite a lot. However, after a little persuading, Montezuma, leader of the Aztecs, agreed to a Right of Passage, allowing Aztec military to traverse Nipponese lands and vice versa.

Slowly but surely, the Nipponese attack force trudged through the jungle. Soon, they neared the border of the land known as Celtia…the border of its capital, as well – Entremont was near! Soon after, contact with a peoples known as the Greeks was made. It was soon discovered that Greece was a great power in the world, greater than even Zululand or Azteca! The Nipponese would need to remain amicable to them…

Contact is made with Portugal was made! Portugal was also at war with Celtia, and had been seiging Entremont for a good while. However, the Celtic capital refused to bow to them. In the end, a pair of Ancient Cavalry battalions brought the capital to its knees before Portugal could dominate it! And, with Entremont came the Hanging Gardens! Resistance in the city was great, however, and much resource was put into making sure the resistance ended peacefully…

For many days, soldiers attacked Ixtapaluca, a formerly Aztec city which had been taken over by the Celts…and now by the Nipponese. It was the last known city in the possession of the Celts, though they continue to exist. It was guessed that the leader Celtia had escaped with a number of settlers, and continued to be on the run from his enemies. The war effort against the Celts ceased, and focus on reconstruction began.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/SpoilsOfWar.JPG Distant terrritory siezed from the Celts...

Corruption was widespread in the distant Entremont as well as in Ixtapaluca, and so construction began on “courthouses”, buildings which would help to extend the reach of Emperor Tokugawa across the land.

However, more and more superpowers were emerging…Persia and Korea had come into the sphere of influence of the Nipponese. Babylon was considerably weakened, and Nippon finally had an advantage over it…with iron trickling in from the Aztecs, Swordsmen were in the army. It seemed that war would soon be renewed against the Babylonians. And the target this time was Babylon itself.

And then word came – the Celtic empire had finally come to an end! The last remaining free Celtic people had been taken. Celtia was no longer free.

Preparations were complete. Swordsman battalions were fully trained and ready to invade Babylonian territory. Ancient Cavalry units were prepped and ready to go. A three-jointed attack force was prepared. And, to top this off, new types of effective infantry – called Medieval Infantry – were being trained, eager to get into combat.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/BabylonDestroyerForce.JPG The main attack forces against Babylon.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/AttackForceIII.JPG

Word came very quickly as Babylon Strike Force I captured Nineveh in a short battle. The superiority of the Swordsman unit to the Archer unit on the offense was amazing! And with even MORE effective Medieval Infantry on their way, Babylon would be struggling to survive. Meanwhile, the Babylon Siege Force was busy pillaging irrigation, mines, roads – whatever they came across!

Across the Great Jungle, Babylon Strike Force II wasn’t having as good luck. A ferocious new type of archery unit wielding enormous bows attacked a battalion of Ancient Cavalry. Though they managed to escape before being beaten, this new bow was devastatingly effective…it has since been named the “longbow”.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/JapanVsBabylon.JPG Japanese troops emerge from the jungle to fight Babylonian spearmen and longbow troops.

Over the next few years, Babylon deployed MANY of these Longbowmen. On the offense, they were as good if not BETTER than Swordsmen and Ancient Cavalry on the offense. On the defense, however…they could barely defend themselves at all.

Babylon Strike Force II encountered even more hardships at the hands of the Longbowmen as a massive assault on Tlacopan, a Babylonian city taken from the Aztecs. It seemed that the longbow was more effective at softening up the enemy when they start to attack, as well. This decimated an Ancient Cavalry battalion, which would’ve defeated the Spearman units in the city. However, when it was merely the Longbowmen left, they fell easily. With the city taken, an astounding sight was beheld in the center of the city. The few natives remaining had slaughtered all the Babylonian peoples and greeted the Nipponese as liberators!

A massive assault force was assembling outside Babylon, the main target. Swordsmen, Ancient Cavalry, and Medieval Infantry were all poised to attack. All they were waiting for was the last reinforcements before assaulting the city itself…

And then they attacked. On the third day of the fourth month of 1100 AD, the Massacre of Babylon occurred. Fourteen battalions of Nipponese horsemen, swordsmen, and ancient cavalry attacked the city. Twelve battalions of Babylonian Spearmen and a single Pikeman withstood this assault. All fourteen Nipponese battalions fell, and ten of the Babylonian battalions were wiped out. The Pikeman unit managed to survive, and was immortalized by the few survivors, called the “Spiked Wall of Babylon”. For one week, a truce was called. Troop movements ceased, troops stopped being trained…the nations were in mourning for the incredible loss of life.

A second assault was soon launched on the city of Babylon. For some unknown reason, the Pikeman battalion was no longer present – but this served to aid the six battalion attack force. King Hammurabi had escaped the city, but it was now in Nipponese hands...

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/BabylonCaptured!.JPG Babylon has fallen into Nipponese hands!

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/WesternFront.JPG The Eastern Front...

Meanwhile, the knowledge of engineering skills was developed. Bridges were built over rivers for the first time, allowing troops to reach to front lines faster than ever from the distant lands in Kyoto. Alongside this amazing development, a special kind of catapult – called a Trebuchet – was developed. With better accuracy and more power, the old-fashioned artillary was obsolete. Also, captured Babylonian longbows were being studied…copying the design would allow for Nippon to disband the old Archery units and rebuild with stronger longbow archers…

And one final note. Nippon was the PREMIER empire of gold. It was the richest of all empires in the world, outranking even the mighty Persia. With this income, the Nipponese might manage to scrape a technology from another country...

Part 7: Babylonian War II ends! The Second War of Zululand begins…

Resistance was brutal in the former Babylonian capital, many citizens taking up arm against the Nipponese soldiers. However, the citizenry were utterly incapable of dealing more than a few casualties to the Nipponese forces, and they suffered many, many casualties. Resistance was quelled quickly.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/QuellingResistance.JPG Nipponese soldiers fight off resistors...

Meanwhile, the war had hit a lull. With Nippon gathering troops and rebuilding the captured cities, and Babylon too crippled to launch a great counterassault; neither side was making any real progress. Babylon had an annoying Bowman or Longbowman here and there, but nothing serious. Meanwhile, Nipponese warriors built up in the city of Babylon…

An attack force comprised of Ancient Cavalry and Medieval Infantry invaded the city if Eridu, to the south of Babylon. Its garrison – Spearmen units – fought fiercely for their territory, but in the end failed. Eridu was siezed.

War ended once again. With great gains, Nippon had emerged from this war victorious once again, with more extorted technology!

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/FinalGains.JPG Final gains of the Second Babylon War.

And not a moment too soon, either. War raged across the land as Azteca declared war on the Zulu, who were already at war with Persia. This seemed an ample opportunity for vengeance against Zululand for the pain and suffering inflicted earlier in their history! After negotiating with Azteca, an alliance was formed…the Triple Alliance Against Zululand, comprising of Nippon, Azteca, and Persia, was formed.

All of Nippon’s industry was geared immediately towards training soldiers. Infantry, in particular…Medieval Infantry. The finest soldiers the Nipponese could train, they would suffice. The former Babylonian assault force would trickle back up to join them once the area was secured completely.

In meantime, there was a number of minor skirmishes in the north, but nothing decisive or even tactical. Irrigation was pillaged around the city of New Zimbabwe before the Medieval Infantry units doing such were destroyed by the powerful Zulu Knights, which obviously must have annoyed the people there to no end.

Nara was taken by rampaging Zulu Knights. This was an expected, however, as Nara was the closest city to reinforced Zulu territory. In the meantime, the former Babylon Attack Forces were returning…and the military continued to expand itself each turn. Soon, however, the city was recaptured by the increasingly-powerful assault force…

A new discovery was made that would alter Nippon forever. Using the code of Bushido, a group of warriors rose up. They were fast as the wind, strong as Medieval Infantry on the attack and unparalleled on the defense. Armed with curved blades called “katana”, the Samurai were the elite fighting force of Nippon. They were being trained by the hordes, possibly the most powerful soldiers in the world. The first battalion of Samurai were placed in Kyoto as an Elite Guard unit, whilst the remainder of them were being sent forward to reinforce the attack force.

A man by the name of Tojo lead an elite force of Ancient Cavalry against a force of Pikemen guarding the city of Hlobane. It was an incredible victory, and Tojo was given the rank of Commanding General…the first man to ever achieve this rank in the Nipponese military! He was sent back to Kyoto to gather troops for his army. Meanwhile, the attack force finished the assault on Hlobane and took the city. The people of Nippon did not want to live next to the Zulu, however…and the city was promptly RAZED to the ground.

Zululand was crippled. The assault force had destroyed Hlobane and Ulundi…and Zimbabwe was nearby, as well. However, taking the capital wasn’t the target…yet. The Samurai would deal with it.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/VictoryOverZululand.JPG Zululand is falling from power...Nippon's vengeance is being wreaked!

…meanwhile…Azteca deployed a group of new horse-mounted fighters called “Cavalry”. They were armed with strange weapons that spewed fire and hit like catapults…they were incredibly fast and powerful…after Zululand was taken care of, what would Nippon do next!? Could they EVER catch up, or would they simply be a backwards country for the rest of eternity…?

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/WHAT.JPG Azteca has deployed these highly advanced mounted units...whilst Nippon still uses units armed with swords and other handheld weapons.

[Author’s Note: I’ve NEVER been so far behind. However, even if I lose, this is greatly enjoyable, albeit rather frustrating…any advice from you readers on what should be done to counter Azteca’s…erm…great advancement?]

I can probably do the first one once some peacetime is awarded to me, but I can't actually trade anything with the AI. They're either way ahead of me [Aztecs, Germany, France] or way behind me [Carthage, Spain]. Oh, and Russia's still in the Ancient Era for some inane reason...

I would use diplomatic means. I would start by offering gifts to a nation that is polite with you. Such as the Persians(if they are polite). Soon, they will turn gracious and be more than willing to help you. Once they are gracious if you have not already established capital, do it now so that you can form an alliance v Aztecs. Due to comp Civs being more advanced, I use this strategy to destroy even the largest and most advanced nations. Mean while (hopefully the persians will loose some of their armies. You could then attack them at a later stage.

Very detailed. And well... documented. Too long for me to read it all though... I have neither the patience nor... time. Well I do have the time, but I've better things to do than read it word for word;)

I think our author may have writers cramp. Or got too busy.

Too busy. I have a bunch of stuff [and a NES] to deal with. But I DO intend to finish this, as it's been my most interesting [and frustrating] game ever.

Wow, you must have been inspired by Daftpanzer's celtic peacekeepers. Keep up the good work!

Global Nexus,

I know how it is. Take your time. I will keep checking in from time to time to see how it all turned out. For me, Im just about to start school again to go along with my full time job. I only wish that there was more time in the day to do all I need to get done.

Cheers.

Did you forget about this, or are you still just busy?

I updated to 1.22, so the save doesn't work anymore. :( :cringe: I would've finished if I knew that would happen...I can provide a save game if anyone wants one, though. It's 1.12, I think...
