View Full Version : NEW UNIT: Belgian WWI Trench Infantry
W.i.n.t.e.r Mar 03, 2004, 03:45 PM The WWI Belgian Trench Infantry
A Belgian version of the French Infantry (see sig and/or units forum) recoloured to medium brown uniform (unit has a few sound variations)
NEW: Version 2 has been uploaded
Rather than making another unit version on an updated base of the basic "Infantry" unit I changed my WWI Italian Infantry over to this new one, for Belgium...

zulu9812 Mar 03, 2004, 04:20 PM I like the unit, but the trousers look a little 1-dimensional - I don't suppose you could add some darker brown spots?
god_money Mar 03, 2004, 04:23 PM Unless I'm hallucinating... I can see darker brown spots when the
unit is contrasted against the green - in-game.
I like the look of the pants, unit, and boots (especially!)...
Just don't know where I can fit him into the game
W.i.n.t.e.r Mar 03, 2004, 04:55 PM In the game itself the trousers look better- the background I chose for the preview is not the best

If you call Conquests your own my suggestion is to make this an "Infantry" replacement for the Dutch (and I'd rename the Dutch to Benelux- or sth.)
W.i.n.t.e.r Mar 03, 2004, 05:29 PM http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=80654 go here for some info on the next unit in line :)
Here is a preview of the default with two different versions of the boot straps.

The Slayer Mar 03, 2004, 06:51 PM Cool :goodjob:
And I'm still waiting for you in a place we can post in spanish ;) ;)
:goodjob:
Mobilize Mar 03, 2004, 11:31 PM Awesome. These would be great for WWI scenarios and for flavor. What nation's infantry are you doing next? I'd like to see Turkish and Austrian the most.
Vuldacon Mar 04, 2004, 12:56 AM W.i.n.t.e.r,...Looks Good in the Game:goodjob: Thanks
Sarevok Mar 08, 2004, 12:36 AM Very good unit W.i.n.t.e.r.! Ill be using this one. Im glad you put it up for CFC :)
zulu9812 Mar 08, 2004, 01:00 AM W.i.n.t.e.r, could you put the CFC download link on the CFC thread, please.
W.i.n.t.e.r Mar 08, 2004, 07:09 AM I am sorry, I can understand if it is confusing- currently am updating all threads and links to make one sole CFC thread for all makings.
It is becoming increasingly hard to service several upload mirrors on various threads at different sites- apart from the increasingly "diplomatic" skills one needs to bring along :( should he or she chose to post on both sides of the fence (my respects to aaglo) :) - there is absolutely no commercial purpose behind my doings (neither do I run CDG nor am I getting anything out of it rather than plain convenience while I am standardising the links).
In the meantime I doubt it will hurt making one more click to get it without any fuss (and hopefully not too much initial confusion).
CFC links are there- no membership required- no leeching- no advertising (... yes I think that serves all sides until everything is done and ready :))
zulu9812 Mar 08, 2004, 08:15 AM The point is this: to download this unit from either CFC or CDG requires that I visit CDG. So this is yet another advertising thread for CDG. Seriously, this is pissing me off.
W.i.n.t.e.r Mar 08, 2004, 09:23 AM You seem easily upset  I thought especially you were a member at both sites too? And sorry, had I got my own site I'd host them there- and if that was everyones attitude that'd be the end of either forum
And if somebody still didn't get it: I DO NOT care for peoples silly paranoid problems with either CFC or CDG or Apolyton or whatever the site might be called- please understand that I do not wish to anger anyone. If this type of argument does not cease whenever I am posting something I will just stop posting on certain sites altogether- and I think having mentioned to being in the middle of changing my links to make a general download page at CFC -
zulu9812 Mar 08, 2004, 06:15 PM It's really quite simple: if you post the unit at CFC, upload the unit to the CFC file server and post that direct download link on the CFC thread. That way, no-one at CDG can accuse you of stealing bandwidth from that site, and no-one from CFC can accuse you of using CFC's mass audience to a) publicise your unit whilst maintaiing your age-old protest and b) using CFC's mass audience to drum up traffic for CDG.
Amesjustin Mar 09, 2004, 01:32 AM Even though I have been going through my old threads and posting all my files individually at each site, I really gotta side with W.I.N.T.E.R on this one. Zulu you are really ticking off a lot of people, and are one of the main reasons people are starting to migrate off of CFC. PLEASE stop harassing posters. Most people do not agree with you, and just find your posts annoying. If you have nothing usefull to say besides requesting a direct download or wrong forum then don't post. Having a fairly inclusive units_32 file and a slew of requests/critizisms/hall-monitor remarks does not make you a valuable contributor to the modding community.
Nice unit winter!:goodjob:
zulu9812 Mar 09, 2004, 04:29 AM Oh, so now I have to be a valuable contributor in order to voice my opinion? That's one of the things that puts me off posting at CDG.
aaglo Mar 09, 2004, 04:40 AM Nice unit, Winter.
Now, a couple of post before this one makes me want to post a pic which says "wrong thread" :D
Please, behave yourselves :) - I think we can get (and move) along now.
BTW, contributing to the community has nothing to do with voicing one's opinion - just look at Xen  (j/k :p )

LOL
Thanks to everyone for your feedback, comments as well as for your criticism :)
'Taking sides' and 'voicing opinions'... some moderators may disagree on these, while I personally do not mind you doing so as long as everyone does remain calm and the thread is not hijacked too much into a wrong direction.
The real problem seems to be situated elsewhere- please do not neglect use of the PM system. (please see signature note)
Mackel-Loos Mar 10, 2004, 02:57 AM Thank you for this "Belgian Infantry" unit which coul be used as a French WWII infantry unit too ;)
Note that i think your French WWI infantry unit is a bit too blue.
The Horizon Blue is lighter and greyer.
V+
W.i.n.t.e.r Mar 10, 2004, 07:18 AM Will see to a colour fix some time later- want to make some other units first- keep checking for updates ;)
Boba Fett Mar 10, 2004, 06:28 PM Since you have made a French, Belgian, and sooner or later an Italian WW I Infantry will there be a US Infantry unit as well?
Sleepy Eyes Mar 14, 2004, 04:03 PM NIce Unit. I like the concept of the ww1 collection.
W.i.n.t.e.r Mar 14, 2004, 04:12 PM Cheers :)
An American one ? yes maybe in a few weeks

Actually, I would prefer that you use CFC download links in your threads here and CDG download links over at CDG, for bandwidth considerations. :) This is best for all sites since it's hard for one file server to serve the entire Civ community.
