Video game adaptations continue to be a craze in Hollywood. Jerry Bruckheimer is now in negotiations to buy the rights to the game Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, and the deal would include a script by game creator Jordan Mechner.
Producer John August says: "Rather than do a straight beat-for-beat adaptation of the new videogame, we're taking some cool elements from the game and using them to craft a new story -- much as 'Pirates of the Caribbean' did with the theme park ride."
August goes on to explain that the titular prince is sort of like a 9th century Indiana Jones: "He's fourth in line to the throne, with no shot of ever becoming king. So it's given him permission to lead a very reckless and exciting life."
Rumors swirl that Bruckheimer is looking to bring more changes to the story of the game, including casting dimunitive singer Prince in the title role.
