Good news indeed!

Bad news: Jerry Bruckheimer is directing.

Video game adaptations continue to be a craze in Hollywood. Jerry Bruckheimer is now in negotiations to buy the rights to the game Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, and the deal would include a script by game creator Jordan Mechner.

Producer John August says: "Rather than do a straight beat-for-beat adaptation of the new videogame, we're taking some cool elements from the game and using them to craft a new story -- much as 'Pirates of the Caribbean' did with the theme park ride."

August goes on to explain that the titular prince is sort of like a 9th century Indiana Jones: "He's fourth in line to the throne, with no shot of ever becoming king. So it's given him permission to lead a very reckless and exciting life."

Rumors swirl that Bruckheimer is looking to bring more changes to the story of the game, including casting dimunitive singer Prince in the title role.

It is going to suck, like all videogame movies...

On a side note, there's also a Soul Calibur movie being announced... :hmm:

What computer games have been transformed into a movie before?
I only know:
Mortal Combat
Wing Commander

Well, off the top of my head, there were two Tomb Raider movies, a Final Fantasy, a Mario Brothers, a Pokemon, and two Resident Evils.

Also coming up: Spyhunter (with The Rock), and Speilberg has bought the rights to Silent Hill.

Those are all consoles. I also somewhat remember a Donkey Kong movie, and there's five pokemon movies, not one...

There's also going to be a Metroid movie coming up as well.

If any of the upcoming video game movies turn out to be half-decent, I'll be really amazed.

I think that that was a Donkey Kong TV show not movie. As for computers, well actually I don't think that there are any.

I'm aware of this. Clearly, in the context of the discussion, we are discussing the broader subject of videogames made into movies, as opposed to simply "computer" games vs. "console" games.

I agree that, so far, videogames translate into very crappy movies.

A note on the Tomb Raider Movies

every chance given to see Angelina Jolie in tight shorts, and other skimpy/form fitting attire, panting havill is a blessed momoent to cherished, even if the movie itsel fdose blow- some things are just more important then story line, and one of those things is Angelina Jolie ;)

Hmm... really, I'd like to see it, though, in all likelihood, it will suck. Just like most TV Shows to Game ports suck... Just one of the many laws of the universe, though there are games that break those laws, so maybe this'll be one of the movies that breaks 'em too. :D
