I'd like to play a PBEM game with three or four other people. I'd like to play either one of the Conquest scenarios that came with Conquests or a Mod that has been designed to only last 150 turns or less.

How about we play 'The Rise of Rome', that's a 130 turn game.

I could do Rise Of Rome, as long as we all realize that Rome has a slightly unfair advantage. And if we pick up a fifth player someone is going to have a huge advantage.

Let's see who else joins us and which Conquest they want to play. If no one else posts by Thursday night, we can start a two-player Rise Of Rome game, possibly.

We could make the AI play Rome but any scenario is fine with me. Would like a third player, I'm in a 2-person game and a 4-person game now and would like to try a game with three.

Rise of Rome sounds good, although I'd also be interested in playing Fall of Rome since I haven't really tried that scenario yet (it seems kind of boring against the AI)..

OK, that would work. I assume we'd want to play Carthage, Macedonia, and Persia as the human players right? Should we wait for a fourth person to play the Celts, Goths, Egyptians, or Scythians?

Sounds okay by me. The Macedonians are between Rome and Persia which limits them a bit. Persia is a powerhouse in this scenario. Carthage is good if you like long, stringy empires, but they have the war elephant to make up for it, I suppose. The Egyptians are probably the weakest team. The Scythians and Goths are both probably good bets. Shall we wait for a another player so we can do 4 humans and 4 AI or go 3 human and ?? AI?

I'll join too.

I've never played this scenario before, so I'll take any civ that you recomend.

I'm ready to play whenever everybody else is.

I'd really like to try the medieval counquest since I haven't tried that either.. Or the Fall of Rome, but that didn't seem to gather much interest. I've already played Rise of Rome twice to completion so I'm a little tired of that setup..

Middle ages is good. I've only played the first Conquest all the way through but am working on RoR myself (turn 65) and playing the Middle Ages PBEM with another fellow (turn 15). Any scenario is okay by me. We have four players so let's get started.

I can usually play around 15-20 and 22-02 GMT; if everyone tells their typical available playing times we can set up the chain so it moves around the quickest.

1-5 GMT if that means the same as 9pm to 1 am PST USA

I don't have a fixed time when I play my turns. I can play anytime during the day. I'm in GMT.

My usual time would be aound 6-8am PST (22-24 GMT) or 8-12pm PST (12-16 GMT). The latter would be better for me.

If I've got the times about right, how does this sound? It isn't great since it sounds like Rocinante and I want to play at about the same time, but I think I can stay up waiting for Portuga's e-mail if it comes later and get it out to Rocinate quickly.

@ EliitMees - I think a fifth wouldn't be a problem on this scenario. I don't want any more players than that though.

I'm going to make the save now and set Portuga as France (the closest and most similar Civ to Germany) and make my move. I'll be Cordova. That way if Portuga comes back and says he wants France I can just pass it on. If Portuga picks a different Civ I'll remake the game and start it again.

Grrr, I forgot that it forces you to play in a certain order if you don't fix that with the editor. I'll wait until Portuga confirms his civ before I do that.

Can we all agree that we will play this game to the end? Even if we have basically lost we will still keep playing. Also, it would be good if everyone sends a confirmation email when they receive the game so that we know if it gets stuck. This is really helpful in getting a good read on game progress.

Fanatikou is the name of the Civilization Fanatics Center's team in the Multi-Site Democracy Game currently taking place. It's not where I really am.

I had to mod the biq file to get the turn order correct. The only thing I did other than change which Player number corresponded to each Civilization was change the starting technologies so each Civilization would start with the appropriate techs.

BTW, I am now France even though I'm still called the Germans on the little screen. I also have something called a 'crown of thorns'--Civlopedia says to take it to Jersalem to get a bunch of points. However, it doesn't have any movement value and it didn't want to piggyback on my spearman so I'm unsure how to take it anywhere. I'm I the only one with this? If so, please don't all come at once to try to take it .

The scenario is set up so that player numbers are assigned to Civ's. When you play the game players have to go in the order of their numbers. So to make the game work in the order we wanted I had to assign Player 1 to Briton, Player 2 to France, etc.

The problem was that when you set the technologies that everyone starts with, you set that for a player number and not a civ. So, I had to fix the starting techs for each player so they would match up with the assigned civ correctly.

Anyway, it is how it is supposed to be tech-wise, we are just playing out of the order the scenario was intended.

The way I understand it, you have to load it into something to be able to move it. I think you can load it onto any unit, if not I guess you have to put it in the Army unit to move it.

Sorry about the mis-naming thing, I was a little sleepy and tipsy when I finally built the scenario. I think I just screwed up the nation name and called you Germany.

In case anyone is wondering, I'm the one holding up the game again. I got shipped out to New York on sudden notice Sunday morning. I have just now gotten Civ3 (w/ Conquests) installed on my laptop and need to patch it up to the current version. I'll probably be able to send my move in about 10 hours due to logistics.

I apologize again for being the bottleneck. I'm really enjoying this game.

I've been in another game where a brutal war was taken rather personal despite reassurances to the opposite outside the game.. then it's no longer fun. I have several reasons for picking so hard on you (although you're not the only one I'm at war with..), one of them being that you can build a threatening fleet - you already sunk one of my longships loaded with berserkers, that was a real wake up call for me!

It's cool, I totally understand. I don't mind playing on the defensive, you have to play with the hand you are dealt. This will have no bearing on our out-of-game relationship and I would definitely play another game with you in the future.

However, I'd want you on my team next time.

Ok, I just patched to 1.20 - has everyone done so? As far as I understand saves from 1.20 won't work with older versions, so everyone has to patch.

Well... fighting in land is slower then fighting on the sea with longboats with a movement of 9 and berzerkers :)
Germany took 3 cities, the byzantines recovered one and forced me to abandon another one. I still have one of the cities and I'll defend it to the last man :)
