View Full Version : Start up problem
steviejay Mar 09, 2004, 11:39 AM Ok Moderators I'll probably need you help with this one because I'm not certain what forum this should go in. Would it be Bug Report, General Discussion, Off Topic, Computer Talk etc I dunno
Anyway, my poblem is this, whenever I try to load up C3C it takes a while (gets to the little pic screen you get after you double click on the icon) and then...... nothing, it says I have a error and it has to close, it says its a problem with the file ~df394b.tmp.
Help please......... I need my Civ fix
Steviejay
Turner Mar 09, 2004, 11:58 AM Can you give more information? A screenie of the error?
And if you're curious, it should go in Civ3 - Technical Support
steviejay Mar 09, 2004, 12:04 PM oh ok, sorry, I knew wherever I put it I'd get it wrong lol
It tries to load up, but then I get the "Civ3Conquests has encountered a problem and needs to close. We're sorry for the inconvenience blah blah blah Please tell Microsoft about this problem"
then when I click to see what data will be in the error report it ...... well see for yourself.

Needless to say I'm annoyed at it all.......
steviejay Mar 09, 2004, 12:05 PM you think a reinstall would be in order?? or maybe putting in the latest patch?
edit: just done a complete virus scan (which is alot of files on my comp lol) and it came up clean, so I "doubt" its a virus or something to that effect
Turner Mar 09, 2004, 12:17 PM You could try reinstalling it. A pain in the ass, to be sure, but it could resolve this problem. I don't think that you're going to solve this problem by patching it. Are you using a mod? Perhaps that's it.
Don't worry about getting it wrong. . . you've been around long enough to know we don't get too upset by that.
ainwood Mar 09, 2004, 12:25 PM Because it crashed on a temp file, you could try cleaning out <all> your temp files.
Go to my computer, right-click on your c:\ drive, and select 'properties'. On the form that appears, look for an option for 'disk cleanup' (it might be under the 'tools' tab'.
Run that to get rid of temporary files. :)
steviejay Mar 10, 2004, 02:45 AM groovy, for some reason its now working. just reinstalled Windows, put the patch in, and now it seems tobe working fine now.
thanks guys
Chieftess Mar 10, 2004, 08:41 AM Yep, reinstalling Windows always seems to do the trick! I just did that the other night. :) I don't think you needed to do something that drastic though. I think clearing out the temp file would've been fine (It can get full if you download a ton of stuff from the Internet.)
steviejay Mar 11, 2004, 04:26 AM Drastic yeah, but it had to be done. not done it in a while and I wanted to, I once had a huge problem with my hard drive where whenever I partitioned it it only used 79% of the 40gig, I think during that 48 hour "battle", I installed Windows at least ten times, so I'm used to it now lol.
I'm not certain what was wrong with it, but it works now so its cool. I actually almost lost my saved games for this story I'm making up in the Stories and Tales, almost cried, but I realised I'd saved it on a disc, so its groovy
