(http://www.gamespy.com/previews/march04/piratespc/) , and I like what I'm seeing :D Strider Mar 15, 2004, 10:58 AM Shouldn't this be in the other games forum? thatinkjar Mar 15, 2004, 11:07 AM I saw that Pirates! poll here, I thought I could post it here. We can't all be perfect like you, Strider :S Strider Mar 15, 2004, 11:12 AM Originally posted by thatinkjar I saw that Pirates! poll here, I thought I could post it here. We can't all be perfect like you, Strider :S If your trying to provoke me into a flame war, don't count on it. dojoboy Mar 15, 2004, 12:31 PM I'm going to find it hard getting into Pirates! I'm just real curious how its going to play to a TBS junkie. And, since this will probably get moved soon, I'll hijack it momentarily. Strider, I'm coming to your town this weekend for the NCAA DI Wrestling Championships. I'm sure you already have your tickets. Right? ;) bru Mar 15, 2004, 12:31 PM right forum or not thanks for the heads up! It looks promising!! thatinkjar Mar 15, 2004, 12:36 PM Finally, someone making sense! Thanks bru ;) BlueBomberDude Mar 15, 2004, 01:08 PM thanks for the link! Longasc Mar 15, 2004, 01:14 PM Calm down, I think that was important enough - I do not read "other ****" Forums, but this one was real important - be nice to thatinkjar. :) BTW, the first pic looks a bit sodd, the 2nd one looks more promising however. Longasc Mar 15, 2004, 01:19 PM Ugh... comic style graphics. Reminds me of late Monkey Islands and Warcraft III/ World of Warcraft. The town on the coast does not look too inspiring either, but I fear the graphics style is something I will really need some time to get used to! :( Karl Lenin Mar 15, 2004, 04:03 PM Looks corny. thatinkjar Mar 15, 2004, 04:41 PM Don't forget... "Stay tuned to GameSpy.com tomorrow for some behind-the-scenes pics and more details about the game!" Alexnm Mar 15, 2004, 06:58 PM i think it looks interesting, and maybe the graphics are not final... but i like their style anyway... valamas Mar 15, 2004, 08:29 PM Originally posted by thatinkjar GameSpy have previewed Sid Meier's Pirates! I would never had seen it if you posted it in the other forums as a lot of CIV players are or will be Pirates players. ummmm........ Mar 15, 2004, 08:55 PM I never played the original Pirates on PC, but I remember a game that I thought was called Pirates Gold on the old Sega Genesis. Was it a port of the original computer game? They sound similar, from what I've read. Gengis Khan Mar 16, 2004, 04:31 AM I'm kinda lackluster about the game. Between the cartoon graphics, "paper-rock-scissor" style of combat, inability to die or lose, and little things like wind not mattering when sailing, it definatly made me weary. I just can't imagine the replay value being very high. But because it has Sid's name on it I'm still hoping for the best. I'll probably talk one of my sucker friends into buying it, and test out his before I decide to buy it or not. Longasc Mar 16, 2004, 06:06 AM Yea, that's what friends are for... ;) Strider Mar 16, 2004, 12:07 PM Originally posted by dojoboy I'm going to find it hard getting into Pirates! Strider, I'm coming to your town this weekend for the NCAA DI Wrestling Championships. I'm sure you already have your tickets. Right? ;) I'm not in town, I'm at The Lake of the Ozarks right now. Otherwise I prolly would already have tickets ;). majk-iii Mar 16, 2004, 01:35 PM i remember playing a b&W version of pirates on my mum's ancient mac II as a child ... i can't f-n' w8 2 get my hands on this game again. majk-iii Mar 16, 2004, 01:38 PM i think pretty much all pirates-titled games been ports of the sid-game. Microprose wasn't it? ummmm........ Mar 16, 2004, 03:44 PM Yeah, I nosed around the internet a bit and it looks like at least that one I was referring to is. Good to know, because that was probably one of my favorite two or three Genesis games. Now I'm excited. Smidlee Mar 16, 2004, 08:51 PM Pirates bring back memories from my C64 days. I guess I play pirates more than any other game on C64. I remember thinking when i bought it that it really didn't seem to be a great game until i started playing it. I love how all the parts of the game seem to fix together; treasure hunting, sword fighting , ship to ship battles and even marriage & fame. I hate they are leaving out the ship to fort battles but it was the weakest part. ( by the way all PC games back then that was made for any game system got watered down too much. I love silent service on C64 but hated it on Nintendos version.) CrazyScot Mar 17, 2004, 12:48 AM Pirates was one of the best freaking games ever made, and was basically responsible for turning me into a computer/video game junkie . . . I can't freaking wait. :D Baalzebul Mar 17, 2004, 12:51 AM Pirates! was great. I spend years playing with that game. Then came Civ and took my life away. :) Endureth Mar 18, 2004, 05:21 AM I was interested until I saw the screenshots and read about the 'dancing' part. Now it just seems really, really lame. With a fairly popular game like Civilization behind him you'd think he's be able to invest a little more into his graphics department but thise coastal cities in the game just look stupid. Thanks for the preview though, now I know I won't be buying this game. It would have to have killer game mechanics for me to do so and considering how much I thought Civ 3 had taken far too many shortcuts to simulate AI, this game will probably end up being a joke. Sid has taken quite a few steps down on my "kick-ass game designer" list. -E Loopy Mar 18, 2004, 08:57 AM That's pretty funny -- because a game contains a feature you're not interested in it suddenly becomes lame. That's like saying that C3C sounded really cool, but once you found out it added Crusaders or SGLs, C3C suddenly became lame. BlueBomberDude Mar 18, 2004, 11:24 AM I don't think that dancing is one of the big gameplay components :) Pirate Mar 22, 2004, 08:20 AM Wow that looks cool! I like that it is less of a commitment to sit down and play it. It seems like more of an escape than a grind-it-out strategy like CIV. But it is more involved than a first-person-shooter, arcade or racing game. Good balance. Looks fun! |
