View Full Version : We need a recruiting campaign!
Hygro Mar 16, 2004, 07:39 PM There are many CFC folk I am pretty sure are unafiliated with any team, and would be quite valuable. I'm talking about people like Bamspeedy and Charis, among others. We need to recruit to those sort of folk who play succession games, because those people often know what they are talking about.
I would like feedback on this rather vague idea.
PEOPLE WE NEED TO HARRASS (Add names!)
Bamspeedy
Charis
Zarn Mar 16, 2004, 09:04 PM Harrass them with mass pms. They would join eventually.
Hygro Mar 16, 2004, 09:21 PM Great idea! We should all harrass such people with PMs!
Let's start a list of who we want to target. I'll edit my first post to include them.
Zarn Mar 16, 2004, 09:24 PM How about some single player demogame people?
Hygro Mar 16, 2004, 09:38 PM Sure! Just slap on the names! Basically, anyone you feel is worth a PM over an announcement thread. (And the reason not everyone is worth a PM is because I'd bet we are less likely to all PM a huge list than we are a smaller one)
akots Mar 16, 2004, 10:05 PM Sorry to interfere but this idea may be good and bad on the other side. Good is that it might be possible to add some good flavor and strength to the moves. Bad is that you would have to change your attitude towards other players. I'm not an expert at multiplayer and try to contain myself but to many strong GOTM or SG players the discussion and opening might seem very unusual if not weak. However, multiplayer is a different type of game.

So far this game has been less multiplayer tactics and more minmaxing. That is right up the ally of most hardcore Single Players.
akots Mar 16, 2004, 10:12 PM If you really want to start recruitment of top GOTM players, go take a look at Global Ranking list (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?threadid=77230). Also consider checking SG forum for a recent C3C Conquests threads (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?threadid=81870). Actually, strong players are really picky in what they want. I just got interested in PBEM because decided to educate myself better before starting something serious. And Yndy seems to be doing great at multiplayer already.
If you need any help, I can try also.

I prefer not. They're all justists and supporter of democratic system. I would like democracy in this forum to be a mere support for optimal decision making, while they might see democracy as a goal on itself. We need to win this game!

Well, Democracy can be a good way of avoiding mistakes, at least it should?
Emp.Napoleon Mar 17, 2004, 10:31 PM We need many more people to make new ideas. I also do not like the idea of aiming a recruting campaine at the single player democracy game people since they like to do a lot of the little things and make everyhting offical and leagal. I like this relaxed atmosphere and how no one really cares for provence govenors and all the unessasary goverment positions.
Now I am not saying that they all will be this way but I think our best bet is having a ad on the front page. Maybe someone could write it and present it to DZ?

I prefer this method as well, although it may be a bit unfair to lump all of the DGers into this category. ;)
That said, I see nothing wrong with how we have done things so far. I present our options, the people speak up, I uphold the peoples will(or try to further coerce them to see things my way :D ). So far I think it has gone rather well.
I will leave the recruiting of the "ringers" to you guys. I have pretty much spent 95% of my CFC time in the DG Forums, so I don't know too many people out there. I am a bit concerned that getting some Globally Ranked players here would take the fun out of it for the regulars, as the more taented players could theoretically take over the show. Worst case scenario, of course, as I am sure most wouldn't want to devote themselves to this full-time. Consultants, perhaps? :)
Anyway, just some random thoughts. I like the group we have now, because it is civil and manageable. But if you think we need more people, I certainly won't fight it.
Thoughts?

I second this.
Gainy Mar 19, 2004, 02:34 PM Thoughts?
I'm quite happy with how it is at the moment. There's at least 7 of us participating in all of the threads, and all of our voices are being heard. I too like the relaxed atmosphere.
As for the SP DG'ers, i'm also not too keen on 'em ;) The only reason being, is that they care too much about the rules and enforcing them. It's only a game. I like it as it is :)

You have a point. They also don't recognize adapt foreign leaders when they see them. ;)
Cheetah Mar 19, 2004, 08:42 PM What? Do you see one here?
Pegster Mar 19, 2004, 08:52 PM Foreigners?
Where?
Halp!
Zarn Mar 19, 2004, 09:12 PM Foreign leader as in foreign minister meaning me:p
Ankka Mar 20, 2004, 01:10 AM
Hygro Mar 20, 2004, 02:28 AM You guys make a good point. Things are going great right now, and we don't need a mass influx of players.

Don't see anything great. IMHO the game is in extremely poor position due to some decisions made by the great seven guys. However, if you are happy with that, there is little point to argue. Especially amazingly great was the starting settler march for two turns to ... a gold hill with ... agricultural civ. That one deserves some admiration from the fellow citizens.
Hygro Mar 20, 2004, 03:22 AM I detect some sarcasme in your last two sentences. Explain why you think that was a bad choice, marching to a gold hill as agricultural.
edit: read your argument in another thread. I will respond there.
Yndy Mar 23, 2004, 08:47 AM Thanks for the kind words akots. The thing is that Demo-games are not like regular games be they multiplayer or not. There are people who are around all the time and they take most of the turn to turn decisions. I could come up and argue that I would have done everything different but that is not the point.
The point is for you to give good advice as often as possible.
Ankka Mar 23, 2004, 12:26 PM Yes, why don't you say it before we do anything, not after...:hmm:

I missed the first turn and being timid in nature and not familiar with constitution, spent some time reading stuff. Will now post everything.
Ankka Mar 31, 2004, 05:44 AM Hey, TF posted a front page ad today on the main site, and we got some 5 new registered users rught away. :D
Thanks to him for that. :)
Zarn Mar 31, 2004, 10:50 AM Thunderfall is the man. :yeah:
Ankka Mar 31, 2004, 11:37 AM Yeah...:yeah:
You have a new avatar... I remember someone else having that one too...

It's not my avatar. It's addiv's avatar. Look at addiv's profile.
edit: Better yet, look at his new sig.
Ankka Apr 01, 2004, 09:36 AM Ah, the avatar swapping... I'm getting crazy because I see all these people with the wrong names...:p
