I have played the trial version of RON but could not find a turn-based aspect to it as was promoted. It just seemed completely RTS to me like age of empires. Not to say that's a bad thing.

Where was it promoted as turn based? On the front page of this forum it says that it's a real time game is.

In the campaign mode

The Campaign mode is where the turn-based aspect is found in. Though the tech advancements go a bit fast for my taste (I often like to conqure the world with World War I technologies)

Oh ok there's no campaign mode in trial so I guess that's why I missed it.

the Conquer the World campaign is where the turn-based aspect is, it has a risk-style interface to plan your invasions.

Conquer the World is horrible. I think the turn-based aspect is also seen in capturing cities, somewhat similar to Civ 3.

No, the main game aspect is purely RTS.

conquer the world is horrible. it takes to long to play each invasion.

Just to balance the Conquer the World comments, I find it quite intense and addictive in the way that SMAC used to be. Once you start taking over provinces and the AI counter-attacks, you'd better be on your mettle. It has a more Civ feel than the rest of the game, because you have to pay attention to your provinces that don't have armies based in them. I'm looking forward to trying some of the specialised scenarios as Napoleon or one of the nations being invaded by European colonists.

There are other CTW scenarios out there, including one which adds a further 23 provinces and another Middle Earth (as usual) version. Now, if someone could just make an Alpha Centauri one ...

My comp crashes when I try to play Conuer the World so I wouldn't know.

Conquering the Romans is a pain in the butt. It's almost impossible to invade Italy in the Conquer the world mode...

I find it annoying how they have the 'Conquest' scenarios in CTW, where its the basic "build city from scratch and invade". If I wanted to play Conquest, I would have taken 'quick battle' thank you very much.

Seriphyn, that's exactly what I found most annoying. :p :sniper: The ones in the expansion pack have a lot better scenarios.
