Burning the fields were burning again. The clash of metal resounded through the thick dark smoke. Men died and scremed their blood seeping into the dry soil. He wacthed the enemy charge impailing themselves on his ranks. Yet they came in wave after wave. Would they ever stop? One after another they charged into the the valley of death. The men were exhausted he could see it in their faces. Their lips were blackened and parched. Fatiuge tore through every muscle. Behind him! The enemy came from behind! They were mounted troops their lances ripped through his lines causing havoc. The soldiers fled stampling each other in their panic. " Stop!" he called " Form ranks!" it was to no avail. He turned around. There it was. It was there every time. The dark figure rode towards him and raised it's lance. He was almost upon him. Yet he could do nothing to defend himself. In slow motion he could see the lance coming toward him it came closer and closer...

Ceaser jerked upright in his bed gasping. That dream he had that dream again... But what did it mean? He touched his forehaed sweat he was covered with sweat.
He rose and went to his window. There it was the greatest city on earth Rome! In all it's beauty. He breathed in the fine morning air. Yes it was just a dream all a dream. Now it was nothing but a fading memory.

Knock Knock

Ah he was feeling better already.

Knock Knock

Yes he'd go to the baths today. Maybe indulge himself in a little wine.

Knock Knock

" Will you cut that infernal knocking!" he shouted

" Yes my lord I'm sorry." she said quickly, bah it was his slave girl

" Well what is it!?" he said still irratable.

" I came to remind you the Senate meets in an hour. I'm very sorry I disturbed you." she said meekly

Bah the Senate well that ruined all his plans for today. Those old fools could debate for hours.

" Yes." he said resigndley " I'll be right there."

To the Roman Senate belonged some of the most rich and powerful people in the world. They were clever, deceitful and dangerous. They would go to any lengths to get what they wanted. They loved good wine and food as much as they loved power. Most of all they loved money. Money corrupted men’s hearts, turned their souls black, made them stab their own brother in the back.
Yes these men were not to be trusted.

“The meeting of the Senate is now in session." said Crassus hoarsely the head of the Senate and the richest man in Rome

“Where is Pompey?" he asked “we cannot begin without him."

Caesar rose “He’s battling the barbarians of the north."

“Ah yes." he croaked” please sit down" he waited until Caesar sat.

“Thank you. Now shall we conduct business? It has come to my attention that many of you feel that Carthage is a growing threat to us.
Many of you have even called for war with Carthage. He paused and squinted toward Caesar and Cato.
“We shall take a vote to decide weather to go to war with Carthage. Now before that is there anyone who would like to speak?"

Cato stood up immediately. “I request permission to speak."

Crassus peered at him " Ah yes the Senate recognizes your right to the floor."

Wasting no time he began to speak immeaditely“Fellow countrymen, there lies a scourge to the south... that scourge is Carthage! He pounded his fist against his palm. “They occupy our sacred land! The islands of Sicily, Sardinia, and Croatia. Even as we speak Carthage controls the Mediterranean and its trade! Have we not the right to reap its profits as well? Can we allow Carthage to do this? NO! I say. He pounded his fist into his palm again. I propose we march against them! To war! Carthage must be destroyed!

The entire building erupted into applause as every senator came to his feet and clapped.
Crassus fruitlessly called for order.
After the senators had calmed down Crassus croaked out “That’s all very well but who will lead the army? Pompey is at the north fighting the barbarians.”

Caser stood “I will.” Crassus stared at him “You?” he asked.
Brutus stood up next to him “ I too.”
Crassus peered at them “It has not yet been decided to go to war with Carthage a vote must be taken.”

“Tomorrow a vote shall be taken. A vote will be placed in the ballot box and it shall be counted.
I bid you good day gentleman.” One by one the senators exited conferring amongst themselves.
As Caesar was leaving he was stopped by Brutus.
“We’ll show those Carthaginian dogs not to mess with Rome eh Caser?”
Caser laughed “Yes but there is still a problem.”
Brutus looked at Caser “What’s that?”
“Cassius.” Caser uttered “He despises me and he may use his influence to convince the other senators to vote against the war, he fears that if I get assigned legions I will have more power than him.”
Brutus looked thoughtful then a grin came to his face. “What if Cassius was unable to vote or use his influence?”
Caser frowned at him “Are you thinking of…”
“Yes tonight Cassius will peacefully die in his sleep of apparently of natural causes” replied Brutus
Caesar frowned again “You can do that?”
“Easily no one will ever suspect.”
“Fine do it… but take care not to have it lead back to you” said Caser giving in
“It is done” Brutus clapped Caser on the back “We’re going to war!”

AN: This is the Rise of Rome scenario and I'm obouvisouly playing as Rome. I will not be continuing Black Rain or First Strike I'm not too happy with those but I will be putting my efforts into this.

Caesar never appeared to me as one who would assassinate people in their sleep... But then, if I had power over one of the most powerful nations in the world...

We'll have to wait and see if Silver's Rome rises or falls. Aim for the former.
