View Full Version : Missing files - HELP!! Dziam Mar 22, 2004, 08:13 AM Thanks! ainwood Mar 22, 2004, 01:36 PM Why do you need these? Why didn't they come with the CD? Padma Mar 22, 2004, 07:24 PM Maybe because he is running a pirate copy? Hmmmm? (Looking at his *real* location, that would be a definite possibility. ;) ) ainwood Mar 26, 2004, 04:41 PM And editting-out what he posted! Dziam Mar 29, 2004, 01:26 AM Originally posted by ainwood Why do you need these? Why didn't they come with the CD? 'cause I had a localized version and after installing 1.15b patch the game became bilingual. Somehow the patch does not change some files from the TEXT folder. To get advisors' messages and diplomacy in English I had to replace diplomacy.txt, script.txt, credits.txt with the same files from a nonlocalized version (hope you agree it is strange to get messages from advisors in two languages). Padma: "Maybe because he is running a pirate copy? Hmmmm?" Maybe. But I'm not sure, how do I know? At least the money I paid to the vendor was real. Or should I run a check-up on a vendor before I buy a CD with software? Sorry, don't have time for this. Do you? "Looking at his *real* location..." My REAL location is stated under my nick. ainwood: "And editting-out what he posted!" I got dozens of zipped files from TEXT folder, (BTW once again thanks to people who sent the files, except those who sent viruses along!). I wanted to delete the whole thread, because I didn't want people to keep sending me the same files, but it turned out I had no right to remove it (?), so the only option was to edit. Sorry, don't have time for this. Do you? If you paid good money to a legitimate software shop for the game, you have every right to reasonably assume it is a legitimate copy. If you buy it on the street corner from the guy who is trying to keep one step ahead of the law, then you might not have the same presumption. And given that Eastern Europe is rather notorious for piracy.... "Looking at his *real* location..." My REAL location is stated under my nick. But many times I have made a similar comment, and found the poster's *location* was changed the next time I looked.... ;) ainwood: "And editting-out what he posted!" Of course, if you had just edited out your email address and maybe the request that people send the files to you, that would have been understandable too. :) (And no, posters aren't allowed to delete threads. It plays havoc with keeping the board civilized, among other things. ) Dziam Mar 30, 2004, 03:15 AM Originally posted by Padma [B]<...> I don't recall what your original post said, but I don't think you explained it quite that way. ;)] Yah, I should have. Forgot about presumption of guilt for what your country is so notorious. ainwood Mar 30, 2004, 03:48 AM Originally posted by Dziam Yah, I should have. Forgot about presumption of guilt for what your country is so notorious. Your initial post was basically "help! I need these files!" with zero explanation. You have my apologies (and Padma's too, I'm sure) if you bought a copy of the game in good-faith. However: we do, on this site from time-to-time get people with such requests as to where they can download no-cd keys, pirated copies, or missing files that didn't ship with their pirated copies (there was a particular DLL, for example, that was critical but the wAr3z d00d who posted the illegal copy had forgotten to include it). The site has a zero tolerance policy on software piracy, and it is up to the likes of Padma and myself to be on the look out for these types of things. Unfortunately for you, the way you posted your request without any info as to why made your request sound exactly like one of the suspicious ones. Hence, we were suspicious. It is a fact that because of lax enforcement of copyright laws, there are some countries where software piracy is much more prevalent than others. Again, unfortunately for you, Belarus is one of these. Padma's suspicions (and mine) were further aroused when we checked your details and found your 'real' location - it was NOT listed as Belarus when you first posted your question. Padma Mar 30, 2004, 07:07 PM What ainwood said. ;) And my apologies, also. :) |
