View Full Version : Term 2: Nominations
Ankka Mar 28, 2004, 12:06 PM Ok, here we go, term 2 will start on turn 26 of the game, we'll need to put up nominations.
So, we need these positions filled:
Internal Affairs dude (aka president)
Military Affairs dude
Foreign Affairs dude
Justice of the Court
Nominations finish on turn 23 and then the elections will start.
Ankka Mar 28, 2004, 12:07 PM I nominate Donovan Zoi for Internal Affairs.
I nominate Cheetah for Justice.
Zarn Mar 28, 2004, 12:17 PM Darn, and I was hoping to meet someone before elections. :(
Ankka Mar 28, 2004, 12:20 PM You could get yourself re-elected. :)
I nominate Zarn for Foreign affairs.
Peri Mar 28, 2004, 12:29 PM As DZ did a good job as Boss, he should be re elected.
Ankka Mar 28, 2004, 12:31 PM That's why I nominated him. :)
Cheetah Mar 28, 2004, 02:26 PM I'll accept my nomination for Justice, and second Zarn for Foreign and DZ for Internal.
I also nominate Peri, Ankka and Hygro for Internal, Ankka, Emp. Napoleon, Matrix and Hygro for Foreign, Matrix, Hygro and Pegster for Military, and Hygro and Emp. Napoleon for Justice. :)
Donovan Zoi Mar 28, 2004, 02:54 PM Is it that time already? :D
Thanks, gentlemen. I will humbly accept the nomination.
Looks like all the bases are covered here, although I would like to see Gainy Bo and akots nominated for something. Military, perhaps? :)
Peri Mar 28, 2004, 03:35 PM Thanks Cheetah but I will be supporting DZ in the 'Internal' race.
I second Gainy for military.
Gainy Mar 28, 2004, 04:07 PM It'd be nice to be something, but I really can't be bothered, and there's probably be others that'd do it better ;)
Hence, I Decline. Thanks anyways :)
I support/nominate/whatever Donovan Zoi for internal affairs dude.
I support/nominate/whatever Hygro and Peri for Military affairs dude.
I support/nominate/whatever Cheetah for Justice of the court.
I support/nominate/whatever Zarn and Ankka for foreign affairs dude.
Note: Matrix said that he didn't really have the time to be a leader type thingie, so it may be wrong to nominate him...
Hygro Mar 28, 2004, 04:33 PM Thank you Gainy Bo and Cheetah.
I Accept Justice and Military Dude, however I will decline Internal and Foreign. :)
Everyone I want for the other positions has been nominated.
CivGeneral Mar 28, 2004, 05:17 PM I wish to nominate myself for Military Leader.
Emp.Napoleon Mar 28, 2004, 06:01 PM I will accsept my nomination from cheetah.
I nominate myslef for internal.
Emp.Napoleon Mar 28, 2004, 06:02 PM I will accsept my nomination from cheetah.
I nominate myself for internal.
I nominate myself for Foreign affairs.
CivGeneral Mar 28, 2004, 06:08 PM Here is my platform for my campaing. I will make an attempt to create a sutable military force. But first, my first term in office will be to explore undescovered lands for future settelments. Once we get Iron Working, I will urge the domestic department to send a settler to that iron resource and the FAs to create a clam treaty to other Civs.

Jeez about gave everyone there a nomination. Wait... ;)
I throw my support to DZ for President and Zarn for Foreign Affairs.
Zarn Mar 28, 2004, 11:46 PM I support DZ for Internal, Matrix for Military, and Cheetah for Justice.
I accept my nomination and thank supporters.
akots Mar 29, 2004, 12:05 AM Looks like I'm the only old guy (37 years). Been playing Civ1 back 16 years ago and all that stuff. Does not mean a thing though in terms of the gameplay. However, it is supposed to be fun. So, just pay no attention.
It would be nice to have DZ as the Internal Affairs and Zarn for Foreign Affairs. And it would be good also if more citizens actually vote. The citizen registry contains many people who never show up. It is their civil duty to vote. May be, pm them all?
Peri Mar 29, 2004, 12:48 AM I was just wondering whether elections for positions other than the President are really necessary? Everyone is making a direct contribution to the playing of the game with all opinions being treated equally. There is a real sense of teamwork here and I was just thinking perhaps we would be better off without a hierachy.
Yndy Mar 29, 2004, 04:17 AM I would like to nominate akots for both Domestic and Military. He knows what he's doing and deserves a place in the Government for his involvement.
I for one will vote and expect my chosen representatives to be around here and do what I would have done. :)
Edit: Domestic = Internal
Ankka Mar 29, 2004, 06:30 AM I accept the Foreign affairs nomination, but I decline on Internal affairs as DZ is doing a great job there. :)
Ankka Mar 29, 2004, 12:16 PM So far the following nominations have been made and accepted:
Internal Affairs: Donovan Zoi, Emp.Napoleon
Foreign Affairs: Ankka, Zarn, Emp.Napoleon
Military Affairs: CivGeneral, Hygro
Justice of the Court: Cheetah, Hygro, Emp.Napoleon
If I forgot someone, please inform. :)

I completely agree. Unless numbers swell dramatically, then I feel we should just have a President :)

What do the rest of you think about this?
Cheetah Mar 29, 2004, 02:55 PM Does it hurt? Just so we have someone who has the responsibility to coordinate and overview a few areas of our nation.
Emp.Napoleon Mar 29, 2004, 05:07 PM I would like to nominate myself for Ambasidor to C3B, if I can at this time.
Cheetah Mar 30, 2004, 12:38 AM Yes you can. :)
I second Emp. Napoleon as ambassador to C3B.
Wonder if we'll care to appoint someone as ambassador untill the election...
Ankka Mar 30, 2004, 05:02 AM Ok, we'll need an ambassador too.
Zarn can act as one until the elections, when EMP (or anyone else, if there's competition), will rise to handle that stuff. :)

Don't feel too lonely, akots. I turn 37 next month myself. :)
Never played Civ1 but do remember playing a game(on an old 486) called Empire, which pre-dated the first Civ game by a few years. All cities were unnamed and established, and production(all military) was turn-based only; no city micromanagement. Of course, the goal was to capture all enemy cities. I always wondered what the connection was between the two games, because one does exist.
After that, I missed the Civilization craze, but got on board for Civ2 and became a major addict(I think a 29 hour straight session is my record). I have eased up a bit for Civ3, and since joining CFC and its Democracy Games, have found myself learning more by talking about the game than actually playing it. I have been trying to play more of late, but still enjoy the exchange of ideas that a DemoGame provides. And to me, these ISDG's we are in are the real deal because we get to match wits with some of the world's best instead of beating up on the hapless AI. :D
Well, enough blathering for now. ;) Thanks to everyone for your support. This game will be great if everyone maintains their current level of interest. :)
Emp.Napoleon Mar 30, 2004, 11:12 PM Looks like i'm the only youg guy (13). When do the polls opean?

That's soo good to know, jus cannot tell (Bursting with tears of joy).
IMO, GOTM competition of beating the AI is a good indication of player strength. Since all strategies of beating the AI are discussed and posted by all top finish players, I can tell a lot, for example, about Bremp's playing style and preferences and his strengths compared to mine. It is quite predictable and straightforward. Same thing can be told about virtually any team leader who is playing GOTM or several SG on higher difficulty levels starting from Deity up to Sid. Beating AI on levels of Emperor and below in C3C even with mods (5CC, OCC, AW) is not a trick usually in SG.
Compared to you, I've been on both reading and practical gameplay recently. So, if you (or anyone here) feel like playing a good SG, take a look and join! There would be a SG replay of GOTM1 soon which is Regent but should be great fun because of competition of several teams and I hope it is possible to put some surprises into it.

I do fully support Emp.Napoleon to be C3B Ambassador candidate.
Matrix Mar 31, 2004, 04:31 PM Can I prenominate myself as embassador in CDZ? :mischief:

While we're at that, can you pre-appoint me as Military Attache within the Embassy to CDZ? :mischief:
Ankka Apr 01, 2004, 09:35 AM Ok, I'll open the polls today later...
Ankka Apr 01, 2004, 11:10 AM All the needed polls have been posted, Emp.Napoleon was appointed as ambassador to C3B without contest.
Good luck to everyone in the elections! :)

Old? That's not old! Try this on for size, I'm 42 and played the original Star Trek game in text mode on a teletype! Then printed out the code and figured out some ways to improve it.

Your profile says you were born in 1969. Which makes you only 35. Must be some typo or mistake. Startrek was fun. Did not see the movie (in Russia we did not have it then) but have seen the game.

Must be a bug. It was correct, and when I edit the profile, it shows 1967. Do we have to tell Thunderfall?
Hygro Apr 02, 2004, 12:32 AM He already knows, and yes its a bug.
Ankka Apr 02, 2004, 05:44 AM Which will be fixed in vB3...:mischief:
