With my belief that the deputy poistion is pratically useless, and demands little to nothing on the person, the Science & Trade Department will not be using the traditional department layout. The department will consist of 4 people, myself included. The 3 other poistions are as follows:

Head of Trade: truckingpete
Head of Research: CivGeneral
Citizen Caretaker: None at Present

The duties of the above is, as of right now, the following:

Head of Trade
Reports on all Trade matters, this includes tech trades, which overlaps with the Head of Research's duties. They are asked to make a report on not only our trade layout, but also the layout of other Civilizations. They are also asked to include there own comments with the report, what they think we should do, and why.

Head of Research
Reports on all matters containing the research and/or trade of technology, which may overlap with the Head of Trade's duties. They are asked to make a report, on not only our research sitution, but also the research of other civilizations. They are also asked to include there own comments with the report, what they think we should do, and why.

Citizen Caretaker
Deals/Reports on matters containing the citizens. This includes citizen complaints and/or comments.

If I am to state that I am leaving, each of these three will take over there respective duties and work as a team untill such time as I return. The Head of Trade is to post/poll Trade matters, and the same with the Head of Research in his/her respective area. The Citizen Caretaker is to make the post inside of the Turnchat thread.

If I am to go absent, with no notice, the Citizen Caretaker will take over in my place, and will appoint a new Caretaker.

The Industrial Age (http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3tech_tree3.shtml)
The Modern Age (http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3tech_tree4.shtml)

Science Goals
The goal of this terms Science Department is to push for economic improvements (banks). This will make our civilizations economy stronger, allowing us to research faster, have more avaible for trade, and rush units.

Trade Goals
The goal of this Terms Trade Department is to aid the AI's research rate, and in doing so (with some clever trading) increase the tech pace, and allow us to get into the industrial age's much faster. The goal once into the industrial age's will be the opposite, and to destroy the AI's economy through trade.

Head of Trade Report for 720 AD

First let me explain my system....If the Civ's name has stars (*) by it, it is a good deal to me. The more stars (*) by it the better the deal.

KEY:
Comm - Communications
WM - World Map
Techs - Technology
GPT - Gold Per Turn

Here are the best deals that I think are good:
***Persia***
**Babylon**
*Egypt*

Here are my trade report now....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Germany
All Comm for WM/2 gold
Tech: Education for WM and 2 gold

India
All Comm for WM/12 Gold
Techs: Engineering/Chivarly/Education for WM/12 Gold

Russia
All Comm for WM/9 Gold
Techs: Chivarly/Education for WM/9 Gold

**Babylon**
All Comm for WM/6 GPT
Tech: Education for WM/6 GPT

***Persia***
All Comm for WM/64 GPT/ 20 Gold

Aztecs
All Comm for WM/16 Gold
Techs: The Republic/Engineering/Theology/Chivarly for WM/16 Gold

Zulu
All Comm for WM
Techs: Theology for WM

Iroquois
All Comm for WM
Techs: Currancy/Monarchy/Construction for WM

Greece
All Comm for WM/8 Gold
Techs: Education/Chivarly/Engineering for WM/8 Gold

*Egypt*
All Comm for WM/30 Gold
Techs: Chivarly/Education for Invention/WM/30 Gold
---OR---
Education/Chivarly/Contact w/Persia for Invention

England
All Comm for WM/120 Gold
Techs: Literature/Polytheism/The Republic for WM/120 Gold
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I picked Perisa for the best because look all the gold we can get per turn!! Then we can increase our Scientific Research Rate...The other Civ's just give us a WM and some gold and that's it. If you want to trade that, you can, but I don't think it is a good deal.
We must be careful around Persia for trading. His military is bigger than ours.

For the other Civ's that are trading with other Civ's..may I please post the after the next turn chat. I don't know what they trded. Once the next turn chat is complete I can look after that to see what changed....

That is my report...

Great! To improve your work, here's some suggestions though:

1) Leave determining the trades we can do up to me, but rather post comments on the trades that we can make, stating your poistion as to wether we should or should not accept a certain deal, and defend your poistion.

Also, as an assignment, I ask that you create a "Rating System" for rating differant civs as a favorable trade partner, etc. You don't have to rush and do it, take your time.

My next report I will try to follow what you said....Next Turnchat Tommarow I believe...I might be there...

P.S. - The trade with Persia is excellant..I strongly advise you to make the trade....

EDIT: I got a little better deal with Persia..

We give: One contact
Persia gives: WM/13 - 16 GPT/ Some gold (It varies)

If we trade 2 of the Comm, the GPT doubles...So pick a good deal..I think we shouldn't give all them away becuase Persia will start trading the Comm's so I think we should first...

What do we research next after astronomy? I strongly favor towards military tradition. We should be able to get it first (by building libraries in Santa Lucia, Bootsville, Liebling).

I still say we research Economics - Printing Press- Democracy.

Economics and Democracy are the two MOST expensive techs in the middle age's.

I'm sorry Minister, that is not correct. Economics has research (and trade) value of 56. Democracy is indeed one of the shared top 3 expensive techs, equal to Theory of Gravity and Magnetism.

For your convenience I'll upload a scheme of the cost of Middle Ages techs:

What is the position with regard to trading Banking? I ask as Egypt will give us 54 gold per turn for it!

Our gold per turn deal with Persia expires in 4 turns, at the same time as we discover Astronomy and can trade luxuries - are there any plans to ensure we continue to get all Persia's gold?

I will not beable to post a good report. I have been busy and haven't had time to check the trades. here is all I can give ya...

Do the Persia deal...I think it is good...
Aztec one too, the gems are useful...
Egypt you can do too...It is a good deal...

Top 5 to trade with:
1.Persia
2.Egypt
3.Aztecs
4.Germany
5.Babylon

Once we get Military Tradition, put in the TC instructions see what good deals we can get and if they are...well trade them WARNING though...once that civ has it, they might get the powerful calvary and attack us with it.....Also see if anybody has and good deal for Luxs/Resources

That's they best I can give you...Try to get the next one better. Hope I won't be too busy...

"Do you want more money? Sure, we all do! Just trade with Persia!!!".

Persia Gives: Navigation, 245gpt, 9g.
We give: ToG, Military Tradition.

Or, 282gpt without navigation.

Remember, Persia's very close to the Industrial era, too.

EDIT: I must also add a very strong word of Caution. Persia is probably in a Golden Age right now, and perhaps they started that war only to trigger it. Getting 282gpt (or even 245gpt) might only be for 10 turns, with Persia declaring war on us, getting us into a real mess. (that means getting everyone to dogpile on Persia, of which Persia might emerge victorious)...

tao

The IMHO bad thing about giving Persia ToG is that it will lift them into the Industrial Times and that most likely will give them nationalism. And that means MPPs. We don't want Babylon, Germany, or India to mpp with them, right? Thus I would prefer to delay this, if possible.

We could trade with them as follows:
- give Persia military tradition and dyes
- get from Persia 158gpt

They will be able to pay even after their Golden Age is finished and thus over 20 turns we would get the same amount of money as if they pay 290gpt and declare war after 10 turns.

Minister,

I want to draw your attention to the following important issue:

Vandelay is pre-building for Shakespeare's Theater. Since Vandelay has plenty of flood plains, it can grow fast and produce much science thanks to Newton's. Thus Shakespeare's is very much appreciated.

It is very important to immediately trade for Free Artistry, once the AIs know it. Shakespeare's is only 400 shields, and other wonder builds (Universal Suffrage) may cascade to it.

Please consider this when giving instructions for the next turnchat. Thank you.
