I got a new hard drive yesterday, a faster one. I formatted it, installed WinXP Pro today everything seems to work well for my basic programs, but I reinstalled CivIII (thru Conquests) and found that the game loads great, but the avatars move extremely slowly - unplayably slowly.

I am using the same vid card, 3DFX Voodoo 5 64 MB, a 1400 Athlon Thunderbird, 512 MB DDR RAM - the only change was to add a new hard drive and reinstall WinXP Pro.

I am wondering if there is some setting in either game or OS that is causing this slowdown? Everything else seems fine!

did you try uninstalling everything then reinstalling it?
did you restart after installing?

I tried pretty much everything... eventually I went back to a different motherboard and better graphics card. Everything worked fine. I believe that the old PCI graphics card I was using wasn't fully compatable with my mother board.
