View Full Version : A Question...

I'm sorry, I know that this is a dumb question, but I've never done this for Civ3 before. I tried downloading some of the scenarios here, but I'm confused as to how I play them once they're downloaded (this is from the Creation & Customization/Completed Scenarios.) I unzipped them with WinZip and put them in the scenarios section of the Civ3 folder, and when I tried to play them, it said, "ERROR: Not a valid Civ3 scenario file." What do I do to make them work?

Well, it is likely that the scenario was in the 'wrong' format. Are you (for example) trying to open a Conquests scenario in Civ3?

As a simple check: What version are you trying to play the game in? If its Civ3 (plain), then the scenario must have a .BIC file extension. If you are going for Play The World, you need .BIX or .BIC scenarios, and Conquests requires .BIQ or .BIX scenarios.

I think that the scenarios are backwards compatable but not forwards compatable (if that makes any sense!) :)

They are as I have been playing Neomegas mod which is for PTW on conquests.

If you mean that it is a .BIC file, then it is. Is this what you meant?

As I said earlier, I just unzipped it into the section of the Civ3 folders where all the other scenarios are. Is that what I should have done?

Are you trying to play it in PTW or in Civ?
If you are trying to play it in PTW, then you will need to import it into the PTW editor first (to convert it to a .BIX file)

It might be just that it is corrupted....

It's regular Civ3, not PTW. I tried downloading these scenarios:

Rise of Rome Scenario by Justus II
The Crusades by Luiz
American Civil War Full Release Version by Pacifica
World War 1914
Scenario: World War II by mdelprete

I also don't understand what you do when there are multiple files. For example, The French Revolution has 8 file links. What do I do with them?

UPDATE: I fixed my problem... The topic can be closed now.
