View Full Version : Cities as gifts?!
jadelicia Apr 10, 2004, 11:03 PM I was just thinking...wouldn't it be great if you could offer the gift of a city to another nation? You could give them some dumb city that has no resources, or that has territory lost due to being on the edge of the mapboard. Could you imaging having "white elephant" cities being passed around between nations? Ha ha ha...a little unrealistic, but still...rather amusing at the thought.
P.S. How do you get a picture under your name?
funxus Apr 11, 2004, 07:07 AM You can change avatar in the User CP->Edit Options->Change avatar. Not until you have 300 posts can you get a custom one, before that you have to reside to the forum's standard ones. Maybe there's a limit to getting an avatar at all now, but you could check the rules for the fora.:)
Marx Apr 11, 2004, 03:43 PM I see no reason to give a city to another nation.
I've you see almost no reason to have a certain city you can always leave it almost undefended. (With the risk that other nations will receive a tech)
jadelicia Apr 12, 2004, 12:34 AM Yah...it was just one of those weird moments where a "what if you could..." came into my head. Still, I think it would be funny to see this unwanted city given to some unsuspecting AI and burden them down.

I do. The "optimal" RR Trade Route bonus is the strongest in the game, but it must be to an AI city on the same continent as your SSC/STC. In some Early Landing games we tried "giving away" cities to other civs or even to barbs to lock in that bonus.
jadelicia Apr 13, 2004, 12:07 AM That's an interesting point ElephantU...I never thought of that.
The Person Apr 13, 2004, 01:07 AM Isn't there such an option? Or is it a "give unit" option.
funxus Apr 13, 2004, 04:35 AM "Give unit" is the one you have, and I've only tried it for trying's sake.:)
Prof. Garfield Apr 13, 2004, 05:13 AM I sometimes give away units. I give stuf like meck inf. to a freind that is at war with a much larger opponant. This is done when I can't go there myself, or don't wan't to go.
Ballazic May 04, 2004, 07:42 AM On alpha Centauri you can trade cities
Rubber Ducky Jul 29, 2004, 01:03 PM And in Civ 3 you can as well
Smash Jul 29, 2004, 02:53 PM You can do it in Civ2 multiplayer.
Quite a powerful tool...or a cheat ;)
MSTK Jul 29, 2004, 03:41 PM Yeah, on Civ3 you can trade cities for nothing.
jadelicia Jul 29, 2004, 08:15 PM What do you mean "for nothing"?
