I have an annoying problem that when I make a move in my saved game, the game shuts down and goes back to my desktop.

Note that it is a saved game and that It is not normal game, it is the BBW mod by Darryl Burgdorf. I never had this problem till now.:cry:

Do you get any error messages at all? Is this a mod you downloaded from CFC? If so, have you looked in the thread for any similar issues?

No, yes, no. I'll look right now.

I have found out this problem is occuring in normal games and Conquest alike. In other words, whenever I make a certain action to a unit, the game closes, in any type of game. Not just BBW or other mods.

What is this 'certain action'??

Pretty much whenever I give a "Fortify" command to a combat unit.

Well, a bit of a random suggestion here:

When you fortify as unit, the game will look at the unit that you have just fortified, and play a fortify sound and a fortify animation. It may be that either the animation is corrupted or the sounds is corrupted.

Questions:
* Do the rest of the in-game sounds work OK (eg the attack sounds).
* Do the rest of the animations work properly (eg workers working, units 'fidgiting').
* Does this problem happen in vanilla civ as well?

If yes to the above, then it might be specific to the units you have. Note which unit you have just tried to fortify when you get a crash. Go to the Civ3\art\units directory, and look for a folder with the same name as the unit that you have just fortified. In that directory, there will be a .ini file for the unit. Look in that for the filenames for the unit fortify animation and fortify sound. Eg: For a European Sworsdman (custom unit), the INI looks as follows:

[Animations]
BLANK=
DEFAULT=ESDefault.flc
WALK=
RUN=ESRun.flc
ATTACK1=ESAttackA.flc
ATTACK2=
ATTACK3=
DEFEND=
DEATH=ESDeath.flc
DEAD=
FORTIFY=ESFortify.flc
=> when you fortify this unit, it runs the 'esfortify.flc' file.

[Sound Effects]
BLANK=
DEFAULT=
WALK=
RUN=..\Swordsman\SwordmanRun.amb
ATTACK1=..\Swordsman\SwordmanAttackA.amb
ATTACK2=
ATTACK3=
DEFEND=
DEATH=..\Swordsman\SwordmanDeath.wav
DEAD=
FORTIFY=
=> when you fortify this unit, NO sound is played!

For the unit that causes the crash, try just changing the ini file for the fortify sound & animation. Save it, then restart the game and see if the problem is fixed. Its not an ideal solution, but it might help work-out what the problem is, and it might at least get the game to a playable state...

Yep! Plain old Civ3. I'm not sure why its been called 'vanilla civ' -> just a means of differentiating it from Play The World & conquests, I guess. :)

Errr... since I am not to good at these coding things, would reinstalling the game work?

Reinstalling can't hurt. :) You might want to uninstall then reinstall BOTH civ3 and Conquests though.:)
