Greetings Civers!
I've decided to scribe the contents of one of my games, and have decided to organize it into semi-coherent form and present it to an audience. Since you guys seem to be the most veteran and distinquished community around, why not here?

Lord Woodtopian of the greeks

It was the year 4000 BC, and I was but a lad. I lived among the savage peoples which populated the uncivilized lands. Recently, however, we had begun to come together, forming a denser and more permanent settlement.

This settlement was Athens, the capital city of the legendary land of heroes. We glorious Grecian fellows began our journey with a working knowledge of Bronze working and a fleshed out alphabet. Of course, I was elected to the leadership of our little operation, and we were underway. Athens was surrounded on all sides by great waters, and founded in the shadow of a tall mountain.

Tribal brains begin forming the letters of our proud alphabet into words. I watch with mild interest. 250 years later, The Athens military has been formed, and the first entry strolls forth from the gates, a mighty band of warriors like none seen before it. These hardy souls strike forth into the blackness to explore the wonders of the world.

The year is 3500 BC, as Athens's influence expands to encompass the southern, western, and eastern coasts. The north remains in shadow. 150 years after this, the grand Athenian military (read: guy in loincloth) send back reports that further to the north, the land narrows and then splits into a V. The warriors stand on the barren plain, contemplating the ultimate desicion, left... or right?

Having chosen left, our brave champions of Athens traverse across choking forests, irregular hills and empty deserts... only to find another civilization before they really commit to this whole "left" thing.

2950 and two historic events happen simultaneously. A small part of the people of Athens go forth to settle a new city on the northern part of our seeming peninsula, and my brave warriors meet someone almost as arrogant as I am. Almost.

"Behold! I am Xerxes of the Persians! All mortals tremble before my greatness!"

He manages to be both annoyed and annoying. I can't really blame him, though. I'd be annoyed too, if my next door neighbor sent a long haired smelly guy in his underwear to play diplomat. This Xerxes character is willing to give up some sorta "warrior code". I have no idea what that means, but he wants our alphabet for it. Hey, it's as easy as ABC, we switch and he's happy. This could be the start of a bee-you-tee-ful relationship!

CHAPTER 2

that crazy band of settlers fulfill their destiny and found Sparta. BAM! Everyone's so happy they offer to glitz up my pad. Hey, come here you little underpaid laborer guys, who loves ya?

My commander guy here in Athens tells me he has a surprise for me. The surprise turns out to be a bunch of pasty men with poor hygiene and no pants... wielding spears! I give him a pat on the back, after all, it's the thought that counts, right? "let's build hoplite." he says with a shy smile. And I leave him to do whatever it is he does when he isn't playing dress up with the militia.

The mountain nearest Athens has never really interested me. I sent the work force there a few centuries ago, and I just kinda figured they'd died horrible deaths. Now, my trade advisor is someone I don't consult often. "we should acquire more rescources and luxuries." so one note, you know? Gets too wrapped up in her work. Which is why I found it slightly odd when she ran into my palace this morning draped in funny-looking rocks and tackled me. I guess that mountain is a hive of gems... who knew?

I got a message that our wayward loincloth guys brought down a barbarian empire of some kind. I considered chastising them for straying from their exploratory duties, but they sent a gift package of gold, so I guess it's cool.

2390 and Sparta grows to size 2. *sniff* they grow up so fast!

1950 and my research team have finished developing this writing thing. Groovy. They tell me we can now record our history for future generations. I tell them to find a practical application for this or I cut their funding. They tell me they'll be back soon with "literature" Yeah right, I doubt they'll return before the end of the millenium.

... hmph, writing. Probably just a fad anyways.
