View Full Version : Pax Brittanica - The Rise of England
princemackenzie Apr 14, 2004, 09:20 PM Hello all- having read many of these stories, I thought, well, maybe I should give it a shot! I've won a few games before on Monarch, so for a challenge I thought I would attempt to use the English, with their bad UU in PTW.
Rules are default monarch rules, no culturally linked starting locations or respawned AI civs.
Civilization: The English
Enemie: 8 Random AI
Difficulty: Monarch
World Size: Normal
Land: 70% water, wet, temperate, 5 billion years.
Barbs: Random
The goal is, well, whatever happens- hopefully to win . I've never really played as the English before, but I assume a diplomatic or space race victory is in the works. We'll see.
Here's my starting locale:

I'll be posting updates soon!
princemackenzie Apr 14, 2004, 10:14 PM 4000 BC - We found London in a fertile valley with hills of gold, and begin our quest to become the greatest civilization on earth.
3950 BC - Research begins on writing and we start to build another scout to examine these lands.
3850 BC - Ivory is spotted to the south. A luxury that the people will love!
3750 BC - The second scout is produced and we spot silk on the first venutre out. We are a truly destined people to have gold, ivory, and silks close by!
3650 BC - There are fertile lands nearby in which to settle and expand, and soon our civilization will occupy them all.

3500 BC - We encounter our first rival- Bismark of the Germans, who has also organized his tribe into a growing civilization. We trade him our alphabet for his knowledge of the use of Bronze and some gold. He seems agitated, perhaps by his rampant baldness.
3450 BC - We meet Ragnar of the Vikings. We trade our alphabet to him for Ceremonial Burial and 10 Gold. Also an agitated man, perhaps by his lack of hygiene. He seems quick to anger and might a prove a threat in the future.
3100 BC - We continue to explore and find a great fertile land to the north to expand! Now, we begin to create our first settler in an attempt to make these lands our own, and perhaps get there before the other expanding civilizations take what is ours.
2900 BC - We settle York and our civilzation begins to flourish. Great things are in store for us, I know it. London begins another settle to colonize these lands.

A Great Start! :king: Looks good with those luxs and such. Continued expansion will occur and hopefully grab some land away from Bismark while keeping those fertile lands of the north just for me.
soren Apr 14, 2004, 10:20 PM Wow - great start!
Two Luxeries near by is very good, your capitol will make an awesome settler factory, and the land to the north with all those BG will provide high-shield cities!
Beware of the Germans and Vikings - both have very high agression ratings.
princemackenzie Apr 14, 2004, 11:24 PM The saga continues...
2800 BC - A scout encounters Viking territory, and York fisnihes its warrior.
2630 - London sends out another settler. We make contact with the Celts and trade for warrior code.
2510 - York begins another worker for the land.
2430 - We finish research of writing, but no other civs have techs of any interest whatsover. We'll save it for later. Map Making begins.
2350 - Nottingham is founded. We put it near the forest, on purpose. We jab towards Bismark's lands, making sure he knows his place.
2270 - Our first encounter with barbarians. They destroy London's road to the new lands, but a warrior from York dispatches it. These barbs will be a pain for years to come.
1870 - Hastings is founded, right near Bismark's lands. A worker begins there as York begins its barracks.

That'll be it for a little bit. But I'm really excited about this game and I'll be posting more soon!
Lord Jimbob Apr 15, 2004, 03:37 AM good luck PM! I have been thinking of playing a C3C game with England at my earliest opportunity- commercial and seafaring makes for some pretty mean cashflow (if you make a lot of coastal cities)! I'd get ready to start wiping the map with those german and viking dogs if I were you...;)
Padma Apr 15, 2004, 11:43 AM princemackenzie just PMed me that his hard drive containing his civ files has died, and he has no backup for this.
