View Full Version : War vs. the French

Sometime in the 50's I'm minding my own business, working on creating units and city improvements; I know that a war with the French is coming. But I wait it out, hoping that I can build a large enough military to conquer the vast cohorts of the French.

A French settler moves along the railroad that they built on my territory during a right of passage agreement. I knew then and there that they were up to no good. The settler builds a city in the small area between two of my cities. New Brest. I station cavalry around this city, hoping to take it as soon as I can afford to start a war.

1960 arrived and I noticed the French beginning to move on my territory; there was no right-of-passage agreement, so it could have been an act of war, but I wasn't about to declare war when I was so vastly outnumbered. So, I let them on my territory, assuming that they're crossing it to eliminate a barbarian tribe that I had not noticed (they were very intense about that kind of thing).

I begin to approach the trespassers with my troops, not daring to point out that they're on my territory. That's when they wage war.

The next turn they storm on my outermost city, razing it to the ground. I retaliate, destroying New Brest. I move every fortified troop outwards, toward French Territory.

They take over two of my fringe cities. I take them back with one Tank and one Mech Infantry. Though the French had numbers, I had technology.

At the same time I waged war on their home front. The city that they had destroyed was near three of theirs. It was my main access to them, and theirs to me, so naturally there was much bloodshed.

I destroyed the invaders and began advancing. My military consisted of predominantly infantry, with scattered tanks, Mech Infantry, swordsmen and Artillery. My cavalry had all died early on.

Theirs consisted of a vast number of cavalry, who had the ability of getting past my legions. However, my under-defended back door, which included the cities Dallas and Denver, was being constantly invaded and taken back.

I stormed against the three nearest cities. The first one was slaughtered in three turns, the second in two. The other close city seemed impenetrable. My army was mostly decimated because of that city and the military near it. From the easternmost city I had conquered, I marched on three others. Only one of them fell. The other two slaughtered my units. Every city of theirs I had conquered I had destroyed, to prevent the French from taking them back. The French seem to have the opposite strategy. I can take back whatever they take over. But not with my remaining military.

After the French slaughtered every non-defensive unit (except for ships), their cavalry marched on my former capital and one other city. This was when I started drafting.

Three Mech infantry from nearly every city I could get them from. Some fortified on their cities. Some launched a preemptive strike.

I have airplanes. The French don't. I bomb their units every chance I get, but it's not an effective strategy. Before too long, they conquer one of my cities, Chicago. I retake it with my Conscript Mech Infantry. But the French are spreading all through my territory. It's the best I can do to keep my cities from destruction. Before long, the French have captured Washington, my former capital and stronghold for air units. Nearly every plane I have was eliminated.

Luckily, I changed my capital to Philadelphia just in time.

With a decimated army and the French leading the war I fight on. Hoping to prolong the inevitable. Because it seems that there's no way for me to win (unless I can live long enough to build tactical nukes).

The French have asked for peace treaties. But that would mean time for them to rebuild. Time I can't allow...

My only hope is my navy; far superior to that of the French. If I can get marines loaded off my transports, I will be able to defeat them. But unfortunately, it's 1985, and I might not be able to come up with that kind of force before I'm entirely destroyed.
