Originally made by ahenobarb, I converted it to the Conquests file.

Makes more sense than having your territory covered with mines doesn't it?

Very nice. Some of them houses are perhaps bit too close to water though, atleast for me, I get seasick

Very nice. But I think it would look a little strange to have a bunch of houses on most squares.

Great Idea! What do you think about diversified towns looks? (Relationed with the age (ancient, middleage etc.) and/or cultural family (native american, mediterrean etc.))

Looks very nice, but I'm almost afraid to say that it doesn't make any sense. This would lead to stuff like towns on mountains and hills and irrigation on more fertile, 'livable' terrain. Then there's the fact that all towns would look the same, whether they were isolated in the middle of a rugged hill country or in the middle of a group of dozens.
I'd say that the town conversion idea would go a LOT better for irrigation, being as how irrigation is more graphically versatile and tends to appear mostly in areas towns would also appear.

EDIT: Now I think of it, you could always do both -- although you'd need something distinct to separate 'irrigation town' from 'mine town'...

This is a great Idea, Trenchfoot, and the graphics are superb.

Although, I will have to agree with the honorable Pthooey Ukas, on the point of some of the buildings being a bit too close to the edges of the tiles. I decided to tweak the graphics a bit with PSP, where I removed the center brown building, and moved the the two outer buildings and the tree toward the center where it was. I'll post a screenshot as soon as it's available to illustrate what I'm saying.

All in all, good stuff!

@ el_presidentse: I don't know about you, bu I come from a primarily agricultural area, and most of the towns where I grew up were founded on hilltops, with farms in the surrounding lowlands (so as to get the most out of the fertile land without wasting it by being buried under roads and houses), and IMHO it looks quite good.

I won't be using this in my current fantasy mod project, because I have resources that represent elven and dwarven towns, and the graphics tend to clash really badly (they cover up the normal/niessuh's soft mine gfx), but you can look forward to these appearing in the next patch for my Tweaked Out Civ 3 mod.
:D

I love it! Have never downloaded a graphic mod B4, but I'm adding these to my game.

I'm flattered and all, but just to reiterate, this graphic was made by someone else (ahenobarb). I just inserted it into the Conquests file. The orginal civ terrain file was a different shape. Just something that needed to be done.

Roi: it goes into Conquests/Art/Terrain.

Yeah it is a little weird that towns would be on hills and mountains. But it doesn't look that weird, so whatever.

The reasons I like the town over the mine are:

1 - it looks much better overall.
2 - the basis of productivity in society is not just resource exploitation (mine), it is mostly the concentration of population (town). This is obvious today but I think it applies to all periods of history.

It should be noted that Civ doesn't directly represent urbanization, even though it is a driving force of history. So, the town graphic makes people like me feel better about that.

I fully agree :goodjob:
Could you convert them for other culture groups? (I mean american asiam etc.)

Then they would be like that the whole game, remember. Nice idea, though.
