-Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island

Ports:
Ports are where ships are built, goods are sold and crews are based. It costs 50,000 Doubloons to construct a port, can be constructed one per island, two per large island.

Ships:
Can only be built in port, colonial or player owned, must not be an outlaw of colonial power or must have player permission. Ships must be named when built. Upkeep must be paid per turn or you may have a mutiny on your hands.

Sloop-http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads7/plxpiratesminicon.gif
Basic small ship: slow, weak and small hull capacity (100). 10 Doubloons/turn upkeep. 1,000 Doubloons.

Cutter- http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads7/plxpiratecminicon.gif
A slightly larger ship than the sloop: quicker, stronger a larger hull (250). 20 Doubloons/turn upkeep. 2,000 Doubloons.

Merchant Brig- http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads7/plxpiratembminicon.gif
The next step up in ships, much faster, and has a large hull (500); Only packs a little more firepower. 40 Doubloons/turn upkeep. 4,000 Doubloons.

War Brig- http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads7/plxpiratewbminicon.gif
The Merchant Brig's martial counterpart, while it does not hold quite as much in her hull (350), it is stronger and faster. 50 Doubloons/turn upkeep. 5,000 Doubloons.

Merchant Galleon-http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads7/plxpiratembminicon.gif
A huge trading behemoth with ample firepower to repel some, but not all attackers and a hull size of 1000. Comparable in speed as the Merchant Brig. 75 Doubloons/turn upkeep. 7,500 Doubloons.

War Frigate- http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads7/plxpiratewfminicon.gif
Strong and unequaled when it comes to speed. Moderate sized hull (500). 80 Doubloons/turn upkeep. 8,000 Doubloons.

Grand Frigate- http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads7/plxpirategfminicon.gif
Feared across the sea, unequaled in firepower and fast for her size. Hull of 750 units. 100 Doubloons/turn upkeep. 10,000 Doubloons.

Ship Movements:

Travel- Depending on your captain's intelligence, you can move from an island to a neighboring one or from one side of the sea to the other.

Trade- The movement of goods from one place to another. You can pick up trade deals at the tavern. You must go to the starting location first, pick up the goods, then to the drop location, you will be paid upon arrival. Completion of successful transports will allow greater trade deals to become avaliable as you build trust with your clients. Warning: This is not without danger, as other pirates may be aware of the valuable goods in your hold. Of course, you could accidentially 'lose' the contents of your hold, I'm sure no one would hold it against you...

Capture- Attacking a settlement or a ship with the intent of capturing it or its cargo or both.

Pillage- Ransacking a settlement or port for profit, be sure not to underestimate the defense these settlements can put up.

Attack- Attacking a settlement or ship with the intent of destroying it.

Sea Battle:

Men... to yer stations. Battle, where honor is fought and won for or ye be paying a visit to Mr. Davy Jones and his locker of doom... yea, DOOM!

Basically, who wins a battle comes down to a few variables:
-Captain Skill
-Crew Loyalty
-Ship Strength

ie. It would not be such a good idea to take on the Etainish Royal Grand Frigate Fire Fox under Admiral Berry with a sloop. You will lose your ship, your goods and your captain's life.

Let's say the Dancing Firefly attacks the Galloping Sandcrab:

-The Dancing Firefly, being the attacker, is better off due to the element of surprise.
Advantage: Dancing Firefly.

-The Dancing Firefly is a War Brig, while the Galloping Sandcrab is a Merchant Galleon. While the Sandcrab is slower than it's attacker, it has slightly more and bigger guns.
Advantage: Galloping Sandcrab.

-The Galloping Sandcrab is commanded by Captain Van der Waal (7/3/4), while he is as smart as a whip, he's somewhat lacking in the leadership department.
-The Dancing Firefly is commanded by Captain Allende (4/5/5); not as smart as his rival, but he has more of a rapport with his crewmen due to his strong leadership skill and his stamina will allow him to keep cool during heat of the battle.
Advantage: Dancing Firefly

Even though Van der Waal has the better ship, Allende has the element of surprise working for him and he is an all around better rounded character than his rival. It is most likely that Allende and his Dancing Firefly would win this battle.
Winner: Dancing Firefly

this sounds great. i'd join, except that i need one thing explained to me first.
why the "st" at the start or the title of the game. as far as i can tell from the rules this is prety far from a story game. all it's missing to be a true board game is boat speeds and some sort of distance measurements between the islands (maybe even make the speed in pixels or inches).

if you do intend it to be a story game, will the story telling be mandatory? cause all i can think of for stories here is something like "we was sailing along, got attacked by pirates and beat the cripes out of them and took their ship".

Plexus
Apr 28, 2004, 09:31 AM
@Roddy- Stories are not mandatory. I use the st prefix for all NESes that are not ruled by strict rules and several 12-sided die.

@Xen- My mistake. Sorry. And as to your being at the bottom of the list, it is alphabetical by surname.

@Amenhotep- It's called sleep. ;) And I need to get your stats, you only had 10 points to distribute, you used 11.

Abriko

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads7/international_port-splash.jpg

Abriko was a beutiful city by colonial standards. Compared to the capitals and grand cities of the old world it was very small, primitive, and lacked many of the great luxuries that came together at the center of the empire. But then again Axl Hunt wasn't born in the old world, and he had never seen it himself. Like most of the commoners in New Etaina, Hunt had descended from the men who first came to the tiny islands looking for a better life several generations ago.

The center of Abriko was it's great port, with the kings colonial fleet docked among merchant vessels from all over the new world. Hunt might have been born in the more established part of Abriko, but he grew up along the port. With it's whorehouses, taverns, cockfights, betting places, and luxurious items from all over the place it seemed like the ideal place for an eight year old boy to grow up.

Now, decades' later, Hunt had started his own business on the high seas. For he always loved sailing, and after sailing the thing he liked best was ordering people around and drinking a lot of rum. So, it was only natural that he became the captain of a pirate ship. His crew, known as the Sex Pistols due to their constant frolicking about the whorehouses, went all around the city looking for job opportunities. Finall they found one.

Mr. Staton, a prominent merchant in the area, desired that a small shipment of cacao be sent a short distance in close proximity to Hunt's hangabout. Naturally he jumped on the opportunity, and after a good amount of rum Mr. Staton agreed as well. So Hunt gathered his men and his small ship that he christianed the Cronos, and embarked on the first real mission of his life

The Saga of Blackbeard

Edward Teach grew uop on the isle of Gras a Dye. He loved it. But he loved the sea even more. He had dreams one day of an empire. One of unimaginable riches, one spanning the entire colonial area. He dreamt of owning an entire fleet one day. He imagined the seas far beyond, and yearned to be a powerful man in Etain. He decided to become a merchant. Yes. That is how he would create his empire.

It came to pass one summer's day he convinced his uncle (with whom he lived, never knowing his real parents) to pay so he could be schooled in the finest academy. That is where he would gain prestige. That is where he would begin the foundations of a trade empire to span the globe. Yet fate had other things in store for Edward.

He was sent away to Abriko, the colonial capital. Though not as great as the capital of Etain, it schooled many fine merchants throughout the generations. He was an eager student, and took to learning the skills required for his self-envisioned future as a duck to the water. Yet one day, as he was writing a letter to his uncle, he got into a fight. This was untolerable at Abriko's Academy. When the schoolmaster asked who did this, the schoolmaster believed the boy who picked the fight, not Edward. It was probably due to the fact the boy was the son of a great Captain.

Edward was sent home. As he was sailing home, he began to concoct plans for revenge. He would not settle for anything less than his dream. He would attain his goals one way or the other.

Years later, he boarded a ship bound for the capital of Etain. He used stolen money. Already he was finding thieving to his liking. But he knew common thievery would get him no true wealth. While he was on the ship, he poisoned all of the drinks, by sneaking into the kitchen. He had appealed to much of the crew's disliking for the captain. About half joined him. When the captain's death was announced the next morning, the first mate said he would take over. It is reported that Edward said "Nay! Blackbeard owns this ship!" He pulled out his pistol, and shot the first mate dead.

After the ensuing fighting, his crewmen won. He had captured his first ship. He renamed it "Queen Anne's Revenge". It was the foundation of a new era in the colonial history. It was the era of Blackbeard the Pirate.

The Names' Sparrow, beatch

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads7/Jack_Sparrow.jpg

iwht Gun and cutlass in ahnd, the cut-throat mercenary rogue Sparrow had once been from a nice familly from one fo the empires- a naval familly even, but, like so many, he, or rather his familly, was at the wrong end of a political power struggle, and by the time Jack would have graduated from naval acadmy with full honours and even a beginning comission, he was exiled ot the back end of the entire ****ing planet- the god-damn colonian sea- sure, it was a beutiful background- exactley the type of place Jack would have wanted to serve in, filled with exotic goods, fragrencies, recipies, and busty women to boot! of course, it would have been a hell of a lot easyer to afford all this as a shining young naval officer- but jack, making the best of his current situation, looked at things this way- if he were a naval officer, he would be stiff and hard assed, not able to do anything- exiled he could do just about anything, including plot a little revenge- so the first thing young Jack did was comandeer a sloop, and sail to the colonies of of Fleurnia- one of his home states big rivals in colonial terms (and just about every other, but it was a love-hate realtionship to be sure) there he set about getting a small crew- good men all of them, not evil, but definatelly willing to try to turn a situation to their immediate economic advantage, so to speak...

though he had a new crew- the skill in war of an officer sailing aboard any of the ships form one of those bg empires- but with the biggest advatage in the book- he was free to do whatever the hell he wanted- the colonial masters only cared about law when it suited thier best interests, kepe his head out of thier immdiate buisness, and they just wouldnt care- hell, theyed even do buisness with him if he played his cards right, and so set off the young and interped, if insanelly cocky Jack Sparrow- soon to be the best pirate of the Colonian.

The Story of Captain Wilhelm Schwarzehand

Wilhelm Schwarzehand, or Will the Black Hand as he was known to his crew, was an oddity among the men of his profession. Unlike most of the pirates -- he preferred "privateer" -- inhabiting these seas, Schwarzehand had actually grown up in the Old Country.

Born into the Barajois nobility, Schwarzehand was the second and youngest son of Baron Otto van Schwarzehand. His family had been a relatively minor one among the Barajois elite, but young Wilhelm had still lived a privileged life.

As the younger of two sons, it had become clear from an early age that Wilhelm had no future in the nobility. His older brother, Josef, was to inherit all his father's land and property, as well as the title of Baron. As such, when Wilhelm came of age, he did as all disinherited young noblemen do: he joined the military.

Where his family had always been Army, dating back to his great-great-great-grandfather Adolf van Schwarzehand, Duke of Kassen-Homstedt and Lieutenant General of the Barajois Army, Wilhelm had always loved the sea. Seeing the tall ships at harbor in the Capital as a boy, he had been immediately fascinated.

He had enlisted for officer training as befitted his noble rank. Upon receiving his commision, he had become Executive Officer of a light frigate under a certain Captain van der Hoop. van der Hoop had been a fine officer, and had taught Wilhelm well. Under his master's teutalage, Schwarzehand learned the fine art of being both an officer and a gentleman. He learned the etiquette, manners, and character that befitted an officer of His Majesty's Imperial Navy, as well as the determination, instinct, aggression, and charisma needed to be an effective naval commander.

Wilhelm had advanced quickly through the ranks, not because of his heritage but because of his sheer, undeniable talent. At the age of 25 he commanded his own fast frigate, the Prinz Friedrich. Less than one year into that command he gained valuable combat experience at the Battle of van Crabbe Strait, fighting as part of the Barajois armada in the Second Barajois-Fleurais War. To his credit in the battle were two ships critically injured and a third sunk; the best performance of any frigate in the battle, and bettered only by a great Ship of the Line. A few short years later, he was commanding a large War Frigate, as well as a small fleet of lighter ships. It was expected he would make flag rank in another year or two.

That was, until Johann van Rijn made Admiral. van Rijn was Schwarzehand's biggest rival, and enemy since their days together at the Kriegzmarine Akademie. van Rijn, three years older than Schwarzehand, made flag grade first and immediately set out to destroy his rival's career.

While on shore leave one day, Schwarzehand heard some scuttlebutt in the local pub that van Rijn had a warrant out for his arrest and court-martial. The Admiral had invented some trumped up charges of assault, missappropriation of rations, and cowardice in the face of the enemy -- even though Schwarzehand's ships hadn't seen combat operations in nearly a year. Knowing that a court-martial would mean demotion, discharge, and possible imprisonment, Schwarzehand decided to fight. He would not let van Rijn win this battle; he would escape to do battle another day.

Schwarzehand gathered together those on his crew he knew he could trust; most of his crew adored him for his leadership, and were very loyal. However, some were not. These he gave weekend shore passes and sent away.

When his loyal crew was assembled, he laid out his plan to commandeer one of His Majesty's ships and make for the Colonial Sea. There he proposed they start a new career as privateers, fighting for their country when needed and lining their pockets when not. The men agreed, and laid low until the time was right.

Under cover of darkness, the men had snuck into the harbor and aboard the sloop Swift Wings. The crew of the Swift Wings was ashore, partaking in the sins of the flesh. Schwarzehand had made sure of this; Swift Wings was one of his ships, and he had granted them all leave. None of the Swift Wings' had minded.

Silently and secretly, Wilhelm's crew had prepared the ship to sail. Her guns were loaded, her riggings and sails set, her mooring laid away and her flags lowered. By chance, a lone Barajois sentry in the harbor fort spotted the work aboard the ship; the ship he knew to have no crew, as he had been invited to join them in drinking when his watch was up. He sounded the alarm and fired a warning shot across her bow.

Schwarzehand remained had remained calm. The ship was ready to sail, and she was a fast little blighter. No other ship in the harbor could sail in less than four hours time, and by then she'd have a lead that couldn't be closed. He ordered his crew to start her away, and so they did.

Within an hour the ship was clear from view of the city. Though several ships gave chase, none could catch the Swift Wings. The ship, rechristened Black Eagle, made it to the Colonial Sea, and selected St. Blaise as their home port. From here, they intended to serve as traders, rumrunners, armed escorts, and privateers for hire; whatever would make them money.

And so it came to be that Wilhelm Schwarzehand, Will the Black Hand, came to be the best-mannered, suavest, most cultured pirate at sea. He spoke Barajois, Fleurian, and Etainish like a local, and could get by in conversation in Citerian. He acted like a the Barajois nobleman he was; except in battle. In battle, he was purely a commander. His time in the Navy had taught him how to fight at sea; his veteran crew knew his fighting style, and could nearly read his mind in combat. Together, the Black Handers were a well-oiled fighting machine, with Will the Black Hand as their brain.

I have been informed that you are in need of a good ship and crew to deliver some goods to Kalmason. Me and my men were planning to head that way as is, and would like to offer our services to you. From Capitan Roddy

I have asked Mr. Agache to give me the task of transporting his gold t oKalmason. He has yet to give an answer, but i have been told that he was looking for a well armed ship to guarantee that his gold is not stolen en route. I propose the following:
We each take half the gold, and make the voyage together.
This will provide both our ships additinal security (the other's ship).
Will make the load on each ship lighter and therefore we can make the trip faster.
We can split the payment for the job 50-50.
Mr Agache will probably love this idea, as he gets all the benefits of a faster, more secure shipment and the additional bonus that it is unlikely that both of us would rob him of his gold.

The Little Babar under Captain Jack Sparrow bombarded the Colonian Natives on Pé Etranje. After the bombardment, Sparrow's Firecocks pillaged the settlement, slaughtering 250 and stealing an amount of wood and fruit. He also came away with 8 strong islander slaves. He is currently off the shoals of Wa. The Etainish Colonial Government has condemned the actions of Sparrow, who they believe was working under Fleurian orders.

The Silver under Captain John Silver under a contract with Mr. Corjin delivers a shipment of sugar to St. Blaise from Pèmèt.

The Black Eagle under Captain Schwarzehand delivered an amount of rum to Fanatique. After granting shore leave to his crew, a fight broke out between some islanders and a crewman after a crewman raped an island girl.

Little Betty under Captain Bent made his way to Iles Alèz in anticipation for a shipment of coffee beans.

Notre Voyage and The Risker pick up a large sum of gold and begin their journey to Kalmason.

Jack looked over the seas- nothing- not a ship, not and island- freedom- he hailed from Etain- he was proud of it, despite his famillies old troubles- but he now worked in Fleuria, not somthign to be ashamed of either- of course, the word "work" was to be used openlly, more accuratelly, he and his pirate buddies lounging around on thier collective Pirate asses until they got the inclnation to go do somthing- which latelyl has been often- the first month of Jacks exile was more or less spent loungin with loose women, rum, and pipe weed- not that has changed mind you- and now he was well on his way to becomeing a notoriuos name on the high seas- after all, single handedlly he had bumpe dup the tension between two of the most powerful nations in the world, let alone the colonian sea- and he had gained some experince whikle doing- true he was trianed to be an officer in the Etainish navy, but that was to be a grand war frigate- on his small sloop, the tactics changed- but like he always had, jack adapted- and noe, he was sailign away with his plunder- though it wa sonly fruit and wood- as well as some slaves to do a little side buisness with, he was doing well for himself, his raid being a complete success, but what would coem next over the winds...

To Mr. Wallace:
Wonderful. Your goods will make it to Abriko before they spoil.

Orders:
-Enforce military-style discipline on the crewmember(s) who got involved in the rape-fiasco on Fanatique. All who are involved are to be put in chains for three days and flogged 25 times. Set him (them) as an example to the crew of what happens when they get unruly on shore. Then, give all the not-guilty crewmen a double ration of grog for the voyage to Nasyon.
-Make for Nasyon at full sail. In Nasyon, have half the crew load the cargo as the other half keeps the ship ready to sail at all times. As soon as the cargo is loaded, make full speed for Abriko.
-Once in Abriko, unload the papayas, and collect the payment. Give the men two days of leave in Abriko, while the ship is resupplied and undergoes maintenance. Once all this is done, and the crew is well rested, set sail for Gran Apreu. Tell the boys that we're going a-raiding.

During the short break at Dakagee, Capitan Roddy invited Captain Simpson to join him for dinner. During the dinner the conversation ofcourse turned to their current shipment of gold.
Capitan Roddy had been considering an idea he'd got when he first took this current job. He decided that Simpson was a man he could tell the idea, and with him decide on the course of action. and so:

"Captain Simpson, i have something to tell you. Hear me out till the end before you respond.
Captain Simpson, do you know why so much gold is going from Fleuria to Etain, even though the nations are on the verge of war?
We are delivering the gold to a man who will use it as bribes to key Etain officials in an attempt to stave off the war here in the colonies. Now, i see 3 things about this that i dont like.
1. during war, its Privateering instead of Pirating
2. the national fleets are busy and so we, private captains, are in much more demand for transportation.
3. All this gold we're carrying is going to go into the hands of some crooked beurocrats, instead of hard working men like ourselves.

Now, just taking the gold for ourselves would be unwise, as both nations would get pissed off at us (one for taking gold they gave us to deliver, the other for taking gold they should have gotten).
Here is my proposal. I cant pull it off without you, so you have the final word in wheather we do it or not.
So, one of us (lets say thats me) goes on to Kalmason and delivers his half the gold, telling them that what he's got is all Mr. Agache sent. Ofcourse Demanding the whole payment before delivery is made. We wouldnt want to be ripped off. If they dont want to pay for half the gold, they can go to hell and we keep that half too. This half the gold should be delivered as the "whole shipment" to the Etains so that they get mad at Agathe for sending less then promised, this will probably speed up the comming of the war on their side, and they will likely cut off contact with Agathe and the Fleurians.
You, go back to Mr Agache and tell him that the Etain navy attacked us on the way demanding that we hand over the gold. We put up a fight but my ship was captured, me and my crew arrested and the gold confiscated. You got away, and delivered the gold you had to the contact. We're not supposed to know what the gold is for, so you just did what you were hired for, but tell him that you only got payed half the payment cause only half the gold arrived, maybe he'll pay you the other half. He'll despise the fact that he got betrayed by the Etain officials, and then basicaly handed them the gold anyway, and probably get the Fleurians to start the war sooner rather then later.

You can pick which task you prefer.
Now, the risks are:
1. that the Fleurians find out that the one of us that supposedly got arrested is free and rich, but there's little chance of them being able to figure out where the wealth came from, especialy if they're at war with the government that would know the truth. If they dont get into the war quickly, they might have time to figure this out. Then we're in trouble.
2. That the Etains know there's two ships supposed to be delivering the gold. This is unlikely as we proposed the idea to Agathe right before leaving, and its unlikely anyone has gone by us and was told this.

So the risks are minimal, but the prize is great. We keep half the gold at least, we also get our payment, and maybe more from Agathe (the half we supposedly didnt get payed by the Etains). If the war starts up quick, then we can probably both get hired by the governemnts to do Privateering on the other side. and with a good friend on the other side, the opportunities there are great too.

We would need to figure out a way to convert the 250 punds of gold we swipe into deblouns without attracting much attention, but that should not be too hard.

So, what do you think?

UPDATE 2 - Flowers and Tin Upon the Burning Sea

Captain Jack Sparrow, after a successful raid on the native settlements on Pé Etranje, returns victorious to the Fleurian Colonial Capital of Gran Apreu. He collected his fee from an unnamed party and sold eight strong slaves at Ð50 each.

Captain Bent successfully delivered his cargo of Coffee Beans to Dakagee as he prepares to return to Iles Aléz.

Captain Schwarzehand's crew arrived in Rouj without incident, with the exception of a narrow collision with rocks in the straights of Witten, after the severe punishment of all crewmen involved in the rape of a native girl on Fanatique. (+1 Stamina to Captain Schwarzehand)

Captain Silver contracted a new ship to be buit out of St. Blaise harbor and successfully delivered a large load of Sugar to Gras a Dye for Mr. Corjin.

Captains Roddy and Simpson fabricate an elaborate story in order to steal a large sum of gold in process of being moved from Fleurian to Etainish colonies to be used to postpone a war nobody wants. The Fleurians believe that the Etainish attacked and stole 250 lbs. of gold from the hull of Captain Simpson and that Captain Roddy's ship The Risker had been sunk, yet he is actually in Etainish colonies telling the Fleurians that Mr. Agache only sent 250 lbs., causing the Etainish to think that the Fleurians were attempting to short change them. Tempers flare as Etainish and Fleurian diplomatic ties continue to strain.

Captain Blackbeard begins the long journey to Iles Bani, while the navies of the great empires move to secure the island.

Captain Hunt travels with a large amount of slaves in his hull from Abriko to Ivé, docking in Dakagee to resupply.

Captain Alexander, a new pirate on his own, makes a delivery of slaves, sans-snaffu.

Grandmaster
May 02, 2004, 04:53 PM
The executive quarters of the Black Eagle was silent as Captain Scwarzehand entered. His men rose from their seats and saluted smartly. The Captain returned their salute and motioned for the men to sit.

"Gentlemen, in eight hours set sail for Abriko. When we first arrived in the Colonial Sea, we proclaimed ourselves businessmen, seekers of fortune. Until now, our business has been trading, shipping the goods of others. Not tonight. Tonight, our mission is the execution of armed force against our enemies for profit. We will make flank speed for Abriko and once there will commence assaulting the city. In one hour's time I will be briefing the crew on the specifics of the plan of battle. Are there any questions?" There were none. "Excellent. Dismissed."

One hour later, the Captain had his crew assembled on the mess deck. "As you know, we have successfully completed the task of shipping a cargo of mangos to this island. You have all done well, and for that you have been rewarded. However, mango-transporting is not the mark of a soldier at sea. Every one of you has proven a good hand at your post. You are skilled sailors, skilled navigators, skilled traders. Now we will test your mettle at the breech of a gun. Tonight we set sail for Abriko and the riches of its colonial capital. Here is my plan."

"We will approach the port city under cover of darkness. We will come to within gun range flying friendly merchant flags. The major obstacles of Abriko are its harbor defenses, its sentry house, and the warships stationed in its harbor. Now, the first threat will be the sentries. If they detect us, they will be able to raise the alarm and get forewarning to the fortress. If the cannoneers of the fortress have time to ready their guns, we are done for. Therefore, I will send a party of 10 men ahead of the ship by boat. They will row covertly into the harbor, armed with personal weapons, and will launch a surprise attack against the sentries. If they can kill the sentries before any alarm is raised, the ship can enter the harbor without worry. Once that is accomplished, we will lay our broadside in the direction of the harbor fortress. A certain unnamed gentlemen in the market here was kind enough to supply me with detailed plans of the Abriko fortress. Their guns are almost all clustered in a single position; if we can accurately hit that location with iron shot, we can knock out their guns before they have the chance to shoot back. Now, once their guns are disabled, the main raiding party will go ashore by boat, under suppressing support fire from the ship's guns. Raiders, your mission will be thus: attack and breech the colonial governor's residence in the center of Abriko City. It is full of riches beyond our wildest dreams. It is also well-guarded, so you will need to be careful. The starboard guns will attempt to lay down a covering fire against the guard barracks of the Residence. This should suppress or destroy most of the Guard. Once inside the residence, you will proceed to collect gold, silver, gems, and others valuables, as you see fit. You will refrain from using extensive force against innocents; the Governor and his family are to be left unharmed, and the various domestics, maids, and ladies-in-waiting are to be untouched as well. Should any male of the household attempt to resist you, you are authorized to use only as much force as is needed to neutralize him. As this is going on, the I will direct the gun decks towards the enemy's men-o-war that are in harbor. We will pump them full of hotshot (OOC: incendiary shells) to ensure their destruction and to provide light for the raiding party ( ;) ). When I believe our time is up, I will fire a starshell over the Residence as a signal for the raiding party to return to the ship with whatever they have captured. You should all know that taking female hostages for your own uses will not be tolerated. Do not bother with rape; the money we take in this venture will buy us all a woman when we make it back to the South Colonial Sea. Undertsood? Very well. Men, to your stations. Make full speed for Abriko."

Orders:
-Sail to Abriko and deliver the Papayas. Then loiter offshore from the island for a day or so. Once we've layed low for about a day, begin approaching Abriko again. Time it so's we approach Abriko Harbor around 2 AM. Launch the raid as per the instructions above. Once the raid is complete, make for St. Blaise at full speed, and hide out their until things cool down.

Captain Bent loaded a shipment of Mangos at Iles Alèz.

Captain Schwarzehand delivered a load of Papayas to Abriko, and at the same time, prepares to raid the same port.

Captain Alexander delivered a standard load of slaves to Dakagee without incident.

Captain Sparrow saved up for a new ship to deliver a load of guns behind the Etainish sphere of influence.

Captain Silver christened his ship The Silver Teeth, and it delivered a shipment of fruit to Gras a Dye, while his flagship, The Silver planned a raid on the sparsely populated Loray.

Captains Roddy and Simpson, in the final act of their deception, sell their gold to a man of ill reputation for a tidy sum of Đ4,000.

Captain Hunt of The Cronos delivers a shipment of 30 Slaves to the Fleurian port of Ivè.

Captain Taa'u, a newcomer to the Colonian Sea, does his first job for Mr. Agache.

Tensions between the Etainish and Fleurians reach the breaking point. The next event could be the proverbial straw. Barajois and Citerians see oppritunity in this conflict for territorial and commerical gain.

Hire Captain Trujillo (if he's interested) to command "The Risker".

Both ships set sail for the Island of Pe Etranje. Raid and rob their whimpy asses. It is probably a good idea to hide/cover up the ship names during the raid. We dont want them knowing who raided them and starting some evil which hunt or something.
Try to make it so that this raid is blamed on the Flaurians.
Ask the men to speak Flaurian during the raid, and if the raid is going well, and this doesnt add to much risk go into the governors (or whatever) mansion (they proly have some nice stuff there to steal anyway, and steal/burn some government papers comming out of the place yelling something akin to "objective achieved, back to the ships". Someone will overhear, and hopefully assume that we had an objective higher then just a raid that involved government stuff.

UPDATE 4

PIRATES

Captain Sparrow built a Cutter, christened the Saucy Mare. Then proceeded to deliver a shipment of rifles to Putain in the Iles Debòch. However, Etainish ships were in waiting. Saucy Mare tacked back and forth, skillfully avoiding enemy fire, while Little Babar under Captain Robin, formerly Sparrow's first mate, faked retreat. Once the Etainish ships ignored the retreating sloop, it moved back into battle, firing several shots at the Etainish war frigate Overacting Buffalo, causing only minimal damage to the gun batteries and main sail. The superior war frigate responded with a full volley of 35 balls of cold lead, sinking the Little Babar, along with Robin, who went down with his ship. Sparrow, sensing that the day was lost and that though his tactics had caught the Etainish off gaurd, the more numerous and powerful ships under thier superior captains had the advantage. +1 Leadership and +1 Intelligence for Captain Sparrow. He proceeded to withdraw to Kapris. A bounty of Đ2,750 has been placed upon his head by the Etainish Colonial Authority.

Captain Silver launched a raid against the uninhabited island of Loray, finding only sugarcane, he loaded up and set sail with a meagar taking. It is advised that he target inhabited islands (denoted by a square or star).

Captain Bent continued the shipping of goods within Fleurian New Lèon.

Captain Alexander warns the Fleurian Authorities at Ivè about a possible raid, the Fleurians respond by increasing readyness.

While Captain Schwarzehand journies to Ivè to do that very thing, raid the city.

Captain Roddy builds a new cutter, named The Chancer and assumes the command of the ship. Roddy hires Captain Trujillo, formerly of the Citerian Navy to command his sloop, The Risker. Roddy takes a 'chance' and raids the Etainish trading outpost at Pè Etranje, burning many vital government documents associated with trade, which could ultimately damage the Etainish economy severely. He ordered his crewmen to speak Fleurian, while it was broken and most of it pseudo-Fleurian jibberish, it did the trick. +1 Stamina for Captains Roddy and Trujillo. The Etainish blame the Fleurians for this atrocity.

Taa'u did a job. He did not specify which job, nor did he even secure a contract with a trader. God was nice.

Blackbeard told his first mate to continue his job. The first mate responded, "But sir, we have no job, we completed it recently," I chose to give you Đ150 for your stupidity. ;) Or conversely, mine.

Hunt transported some Java... which wasn't from Java... Hunt transported some... "Alèz".

Captain One Eye, who only had one eye, delivered some goods to Gran Apreu.

NATIONS

Fleurian and Etainish tensions reach their breaking point. War is iminent.

:D
well, i think i've done enough to agravate the Flaurians and Etanish, time to head south.

Capitan Roddy Orders:
Cpt. Trujillo is to take the Risker To Dakagee and sell the mangoes for as much as he can get for them.
Capitan Roddy takes the Chancer to St. Anysia and sell his mangoes.
once in St. Anysia pay D150 to get trade info on: Pemet, Fanatique and St. Blaise.

both ships clearly have enough mangoes that if any of the men want to eat mangoes, they can have as many as they want. Be a nice change from the regular same old navy food.

Addendum if Cpt Sparrow decides to join me on my way to St. Anysia (see two posts down), then assist him with any supply needs he has at Dakagee (if needed, upto him), and be thankfull that between the two of us (and our cutters) we stand a much better chance against any government's frigates then alone. If anything (including other players) does attack us, throw everything we've got at them (including the mangoes if that helps, lol).

Story: (i'm bored)
In the morning The Risker would for the first time leave Capitan Roddy's sight. He was set to take the faster Chancer further into Citerian Territory then the Risker could get. The Raid on Pè Etranje had proved that Captain Trujillo could be trusted. Roddy was still a little worried about what the man might do once he is allone on the sea's in controll of a Pirate's ship. It was agreed that Roddy would stop by Dakagee and leave instrusctions for Captain Trujillo to follow once he got there. Roddy had decided that after this recent raid, he could no longer afford the risk of being caught by either the Flaurians or the Etanish and needed to go south for a while.
The Flaurians thought he had sunk with a good load of their gold, and the Etanish might recognize him as the one who raided their trade port. Getting caught by either could prove unpleasant.
When their war finaly flared to open hostilities, they would likely forget his crimes against them and he could travel back up here if needed. For now he would go south and make a name for himself as a trustworthy merchant. Captain Trujillo's nationality might even help him get a foot in the door with the Citerian merchants and officials.
Roddy hoped that he could get a good amount of gold for the dam mangoes that he had so many of now. He'd never liked mangoes that much and was now sick of them. The men seemed to like having so much fruit around though. Since it wasnt some merchant's shipment, Roddy gave the men permission to eat as many of the dam things as they wanted.
A fisherman they'd met a couple days back had informed them that Captain Sparrow now had an Etanish bounty on his head. Roddy though about finding Sparrow and proposing that they get the hell out of here together, Two cutters have a much better chance of escaping a frigate then one, but the search would take too long, and he wasnt all that sure it would be worth it.

been searching the thread trying to figure out why in gods name Cpt Sparrow (Xen) has a bounty on his head. was he in some backwater deal to deliver some guns that were called bannana's somewhere? dont make too much sence to me so far. hope he got payed (or atleast offered) a lot for that job, cause loosing a boat so early can realy hurt and having other players sent after you is probably worse.
lol.

(sent by pidgeon i'd guess, cause how else are we communicating)

Dear sir,
I have now had two offers from other captains to join forces to hunt you down and collect the reward on your head. I have absolutely no wish to encounter any Flaurian or Etainish officials at this time (as either meeting could cost me a very important body part that currently rests on my shoulders). I am honour bound not to reveal the identities of these captains, but as a fellow outlaw, thought i should warn ya. I am currently heading down to the Citerian island of St. Anysia on my cutter, the Chancer. I propose that we travel together for mutual protection from various hostile entities. If you would like to join me on my journey, please meet up with me on my way to Dakagee (voyage path and timetable included, you can choose your own randevue point).

Good Luck avoiding the Etanish navy,
Capitan Roddy of the Chancer.

PS, considering the bounty on your head, i would not advise stopping in Dakagee, as tehre are many a greedy soul there. If you decide to join me on my way to St Anysia, i will gladly assist you with any resuplying you need from Dakagee on the way. Plus i have quite a few Mangoes, that you are more then welcome to have some of for your crew if you'd like.

and as for any would be bounty hunters let them come, and they will meet the nasty guns of one of the major powers royal frigates I'm a valuble man to severl imperial powers now, and i dont have to worry abut any Etanish bounty on my head ;)

NOTICE

I have revamped the trade system:

You will be PM'ed each turn with what is being bought and sold in the port you are in. If you are not in a port, you will get nothing. If you wish to inquire about what is being bought/sold in another port, pay the local trade authority Ð50/port (if you are not in a port, this option is not avaliable to you either).

Pirate Name: Jimmy
Player: Circon
Color: Can't think of anything not used yet. Maybe this?
Nationality: Citerian
Crew: The Easily Distracted
Booty: 500 Doubloons
Stats: (10 Points to distribute)
........Intellegence (Ability in making decisions and navigation): 2
........Leadership (Ability in leading crewmen and sea-battle): 3
........Stamina (Length of trips able to complete successfully, factors into trade and dueling): 5
Ports Owned:
Ships:
........Sloops(1):
................-Ship Name (Kimmy) [Citeria or St. Anysia, no idea]

The long and the short of it: Jimmy is one of the toughest sea-dogs ever having saild halfway across the archipelago. He would have managed it had his crew not mutinied due to discovering that his course was charted to the middle of nowhere.
Now he has a slightly more loyal crew and the crappiest ship available, hoping to work his way up again.

Can't post orders until I hear what is happening in the port.

Update 5

Pirates

Captain Sparrow successfully makes it back to the Fleurian colonial capital of Gran Apreu after a harrowing delivery run to Iles Debòch. The Etainish bounty on his head remains.

Captain Roddy and his subordinate, Captain Trujillo, make their ways South East and sell some mangos.

Captain Alexander sailed to Gran Apreu and sold Papayas.

Captain Jimmy, with a light load of Cloth, set sail for Ivè and delivered the cloth.

Captain Schwarzehand delivered a shipment of fine, strong, African slaves to Ivè. And to celebrate the joyous occasion, his men helped themselves to all the wenches and rum in the entire Shorside Inn on Ivè. +1 leadership for Captain Schwarzehand.

Captain Hunt's men were given leave for the duration of the turn.

Captain Bent sold a shipment of fine Fleurian cutlasses in the port of Dakagee for substantial profit.

Captain Taau bought parrots, and due to a lack of elaboration in his orders to his crew, they began to island hop South.

Nations

The Etainish vessels Blind Mallard, Gigantic Ibex and Zany Mastiff meet the Fleurian war frigate Black Kestral outside Kalmason. Captain Delecroix is captured with his ship, Black Kestral, and this marks the beginning of the Etainish-Fleurian Colonian War.

OOC

Trade has been revamped. It is now by nation and is shown in the tavern.

Privateering will work like so: you contact the nation's authorities through me and they give you a war-oriented job. Sound fun? Alright then.

I would really like this NES to get going again. If you guys want it to keep going, I'll try to keep it going.

how come some "units" of stuff (like parrots) you can make a crapload of money on per unit, and some (like mangoes) you can barely make any?

can a ship carry fewer parrot units then mangoe units? i though the point of units was that it made it so you can carry the same number of "units" on a ship, no matter what it was.
or was the variance that big on purpose? so that there are some things worth stealing or something?
