View Full Version : zulu's unit requests - warning! a lot of pictures
zulu9812 Apr 30, 2004, 05:29 PM Medieval Archer
------------------------
I'm intending to use a javelin unit as the ancient-age missile unit, and the bow as the early medieval missile unit (the crossbow being late medieval missile unit). Some pics:

zulu9812 Apr 30, 2004, 05:30 PM African Crossbow
------------------------------
Gotta love those flavour units! Rather than civ-specific flavour units, I'm using culture-specific units. I have 8 cultures (as far as units go): African, Asian, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Mediterranean, Meso American, Native American, Middle East. I think that this unit would make a great late-medieval missile unit for the African culture:

Renaissance/Colonial Pirate
-------------------------------
Early marine infantry unit - the following image is actually from Daz3D, and they have a Pirate add-on for Michael, as well as the Buccaneers add-on for the pirate pak:

zulu9812 Apr 30, 2004, 05:31 PM WWI - Stormtrooper
------------------------------
I intend to use this as the early industrial heavy (attack) infantry unit. This unit could perhaps throw a grenade as attack a and fire the pistol or rifle as attack b?

zulu9812 Apr 30, 2004, 05:31 PM WWI - Flatcap Infantry
-------------------------------
This unit would be the early industrial medium infantry unit. With a flat cap to differentiate it from Firaxis's Civ3 Infantry

WWI - Horse-drawn Artillery
-------------------------------
Similar to the Napoleonic Horse Artillery that's already been made, but this would be used as the early industrial upgrade (the late industrial mobile artilelry is a self propelled howitzer). Sorry, these are the best pics that I could find.

El Justo Apr 30, 2004, 07:59 PM hey, those figurines are cool
Clam I Am Apr 30, 2004, 09:18 PM I second the pirate. It's one unit thats sorely missing from Civ3.
Kal-el May 01, 2004, 12:41 PM I'd like to see all of them made. :)
zulu9812 May 01, 2004, 01:08 PM Is it safe to say that some of them would make it into the Rise & Rule mod, then?
zulu9812 May 02, 2004, 04:43 PM Cuirassier
---------------------------------
This would be a Renaissance heavy cavalry unit, filling the gap between Cavalier (late) Knight and Hussar.

As you can see, I'm looking for something very much in the French Napoleonic style. I know that's not Renaissance, but I think that style looks best.

zulu9812 May 02, 2004, 04:45 PM You'll notice that this Cuirassier carries a carabine: I plan on using this unit strictly in a close-quarters line breaker role, leaving ranged cavalry to a hit & run role - so I'd rather this cuirassier didn't have any kind of rifle or pistol.

zulu9812 May 03, 2004, 03:19 PM Boer War/WWI - Lancer
----------------------------------
When the early tanks appear in civ I still want there to be some cavalry around and ideally I'd like those to be chargers, not mounted rifleman. I'd originally planned for C3C Hussar to be the Colonial heavy cavalry unit, which would then skip the early industrial upgrade stage and upgrade to Smoking mirror's motorised infantry later on. That way, you still get a mobile attack unit, but the unit's poor stats (compared to to the WWI-proper units, like Trench Soldier and Tank) make it obvious to the player that cavalry is on it's way out and he needs to invest in tanks. That's still the plan, but I think the unit could do with an image update for the 19th/20th century, even if the stats remain the same. Anyway, here are some pics:

zulu9812 May 03, 2004, 04:17 PM You'll no doubt notice that these figurines have different hats. However, I would prefer it if the Lancer unit had the hat with the square top.

zulu9812 May 03, 2004, 06:08 PM I bet I'm not the only one who would like to see a late victorian cavalry unit...

Something a little different: these look more like mounted infantry than true lancers, but whichever the unit creator prefers!

As far as I know, this way of wearing the quiver on the back was only used by native americans. Euro-asian quivers would hang from the archer's belt or from the saddle of a horse.
This may be irrelevant, since you're requesting an african unit, but almost all the pictures show european archers. :)
zulu9812 May 04, 2004, 05:08 AM I know that we already have the Iroqouis Horse Warrior, but if that's their UU then we ned something else. Something like this:

Rufus T. Firefly May 04, 2004, 06:03 AM They are great, but the problem is: who would make them? :(
zulu9812 May 04, 2004, 06:30 AM Well, let's consider who the known cavalry makers are:
Kindred77
utahjazz7
embryodead
Kinboat
Kryten
BeBro
Dom Pedro II
Any takers?
Here are some more native american horseman pics

zulu9812 May 05, 2004, 04:25 AM I know that we already have utahjazz7's Indian Rifleman, but in my mod I will have Arquebusier, Fusilier and Rifleman - so I basically need two more gunpowder-era native american shooters. And I'm sure lots of other people would like to see some more native american flavour units!
http://www.histomin.com/lineand/andamericas/mpan4f24.jpg http://www.histomin.com/lineand/andamericas/mpan4f18.jpg http://www.histomin.com/lineand/andamericas/mpan4f21.jpg

and whilst I'm here, here's another pic of a native american horseman. This would be for a later era than the other pics I've posted.

subbss May 05, 2004, 08:31 AM That's a LOT of pictures, of course you did say so in the thread title but still..... that's a lot of pictures!
Goldflash May 05, 2004, 03:43 PM Zulu also wants Modern Cavalry :D
zulu9812 May 06, 2004, 06:37 AM Horseman flavour unit for China/Japan/Korea

ripptide May 06, 2004, 09:21 AM I just finished making a Poser limber and caisson to go along with Jim Burtons beautiful Poser Napoleon gun, but if any of the Poser guru's is willing to try zulu's request for the WW1 artillery, let me know. I can modify the limber and make the cannon for them to use if they want em.
Goldflash May 06, 2004, 09:37 AM AWW MAN! Riptide! THATS BEAUTIFUL! We really need a Napoleanic Era Bronze Connon.
zulu9812 May 06, 2004, 03:42 PM Yes! Please, someone get in touch with Rip and work with him on the WWI horse artillery!
zulu9812 May 10, 2004, 08:02 AM As you know (if you'd read previous posts in this thread) I intend for the Ancient Age Light Infantry (missile) unit to be be a javelin-thrower, not an archer. Now, Kryten has already made a Greek Peltast unit, and I do intend to use that. However, it does look a pretty greek-specific, and some flavour units certainly wouldn't go amiss.
First, some artist impressions:

Mobilize May 12, 2004, 11:26 PM I like those 2 Cherokee/Creek miniatures wearing the British coats. I wish those could be made.
zulu9812 May 18, 2004, 05:45 AM I've decided to pool the best pictures from the previous posts for the units I really, really want made (excluding the Asian Horseman, since utahjazz7's already taken that onboard).
Renaissance/Colonial Marine
---------------------------
A much needed unit, I'm sure you'll agree.
http://secure.daz3d.com/userdir//images/ps_tx485b_lg.jpg
WWI Infantry
---------------------------
Again, fills a gaping hole in the tech tree
http://www.packrat-toyz.com/images/Sideshow/WWI%20German%20Series%204.jpg
WWI Mobile Artillery
---------------------------
I defintely need this to bridge the gap between the Napoleonic Horse Artillery and Kinboat's Sturmtiger
http://www.btinternet.com/~peter.dales_soldiers/photos/alymer/ab-35.jpg
Cuirassier
---------------------------
At the moment, I'm using the Cossacks English Rider for this, but I think a unit based on this picture would be a great improvement
http://www.andrea-miniatures.com/eng/moreinfo/images/s8-f34/11.jpg
Boer War/WWI Lancer
---------------------------
This unit is a definite must, I simply can't fill the gap with anything else. Rifle-armed cavalry are being used as Light Cavalry, which upgrade to Armoured Car in WWI, and I need a WWI Heavy Cavalry unit to show that there was still cavalry around at the time. I simply can't finish the mod until I have this unit :(
http://www.michtoy.com/MTSCnewSite/figures_kits_folder/HM_hist_min_folder/1812-Napoleonic-lancer.jpg
Native American Ancient Cavalry
-----------------------------------
I know that horse weren't in American until the Europeans brought them, but I simply can't think of a good alternative for the Americas. I just can't believe in a fast-running foot soldier. Maybe tactically, but not strategically. This image would be perfect for that unit. How about taking Kinboat's Native American Spearman and putting him on a horse?
http://www.histomin.com/lineand/andamericas/mpan8f03.jpg
Native American Musketman
-----------------------------------
I plan on using utahjazz7's excellent Indian Rifleman as the Native American Arqeubusier (first gunpowder unit), but after that I need Musketman and then Rifleman. Here's a pic for the desired Musketman.
http://www.histomin.com/lineand/andamericas/mpan4f21.jpg
Native American Rifleman
-----------------------------------
Flavour unit for the Rifleman, counterpart to utahjazz7's Villista
