View Full Version : (i'm Sn00py) Graphics ModPack Almost done, check screenshots
Snoopy Nov 09, 2001, 05:53 AM Apolytons forums are down, (so basically the site is dead at the moment :) ).
Anyway, as some of u may already know, I am creating a large gfx mod. I was wondering how u guys feel about the pics below? Do u want to host the modpack file once its done Thunderfall? (few days from now). It's just that it will probably be about 5-10megs big
Snoopy Nov 09, 2001, 05:55 AM sorry about the size of the pics
Snoopy Nov 09, 2001, 05:59 AM .
Plutarck Nov 09, 2001, 06:17 AM I'm using your current set of graphics, and from the looks of it I'll definately use it when you release it. Looks nice :)
Snoopy Nov 09, 2001, 06:19 AM A few things I wanted to mention:
I've changed the water to a few different depths of blue brightness and contrast, I've had it much darker than the one above and I found it to get quite ugly after a while, so I brightened it up a bit and smoothed out the rough parts, this is better in my eyes.
About the mountains; there are 4 different types, 3 of them have grey look and the jungle mountains have a red look.
Things like forests on tundra have snow on the leaves, rivers have more green around them, land is raised in some areas, beaches and lagoons.
The jungles u see here, have a high contrast, they will be fixed. I still have things to finish off like icons, towns, plains, etc
There is new irrigation and many other things
Morten Blaabjerg Nov 09, 2001, 06:28 AM LOOKS GOOD!! :)
I tried changing the ocean files to a much darker blue, but had the same problem you mention. It is very difficult to "smoothe" out the edges.
Looking forward to seeing the completed package!
Pggar Nov 09, 2001, 06:57 AM This look awesome!! :goodjob: :D
Two thigs though,
Don't yoy think you've put too much green around rivers, it looks a little strange on desert tiles.
On the coastal tiles some jungle occupy all the tile and look like they are floating on the ocean.
Hope my feedback can help you.
Locutus Nov 09, 2001, 07:02 AM WOW! That looks VERY good, Sn00py! Mayor improvements over the standard graphics. One a 1-10 scale I would give the original graphics a 5.5, this is at least a 9 :goodjob:
*jealous* Grrrr... at least you can continue your work here, I can't do anything at all until Apolyton comes back to life again :( */jealous*
Snoopy Nov 09, 2001, 07:03 AM thanks for pointing those out :)
Snoopy Nov 09, 2001, 07:05 AM Yeah, do u know whats happened with the forums?
Thunderfall Nov 09, 2001, 07:09 AM They look awesome! Good job icedan!! :goodjob: Please email it to thunderfall@civfanatics.com when it's finished. Of course we will host it. :)

Yeah, do u know whats happened with the forums?
No, I don't have a clue. But they now work again :D
donquixote Nov 09, 2001, 12:59 PM Hi snoopy...great work.
I have a question... i am pretty new to this stuff so excuse my ignorance.
If one did not like the looks of the irrigation would it be at all possible to redo the graphics of those squares entirely to bring back farmland or just tweak the existing ones.
Just wondering.....oh yah what are your thoughts on this topic>?
shirleyrocks Nov 09, 2001, 01:04 PM Hi...your screenshots look great. I was wondering which editor you used to make these graphics?
Snoopy Nov 09, 2001, 07:23 PM There's really little I can do to fix the jungle, etc overlapping the water, it happens with the original graphics aswell
I've done irrigation, it's not easy, I've done about 10 diff types, this is the best I can do.
Snoopy Nov 09, 2001, 07:29 PM I use photoshop shirley. I should meantion that none of my work is copied or pasted, I draw all my work. :)
here's that irrigation file if u want to use it, just remember to back up the files, coz otherwise u will have to reinstall civ3 to get the file back.
copy the files into /art/terrain/ directory and overwrite
Skatcat Nov 09, 2001, 11:17 PM :) Graphics are a great, what an improvement from what was originally done. Keep us informed when the mod is complete. I think it should be conveyed to firaxes and made into an official patch keep up the good work, Im surprised they didnt do a better job oh well, overall they did do a good job with the game but their are some bugs that Ive noticed about 5 or 6 and that others have posted also I just hope that they release a patch soon and correct these bugs lets hope they look at these boards occasionally. :goodjob:
kring Mar 09, 2002, 10:48 PM I appreciate the hard work you put in these graphics. I look forward to more of your graphics in the future, hopefully not too distant future.:D
Papa Lazarou Mar 16, 2002, 07:22 AM what an improvement, a must mod methinkz! shame about not being able to fix the jungle tiles overlapping the water but ho hum. thunderfall - could you put an announcement on the main page when this gets finished by any chance? thnx :king:
D. Boon's Ghost Mar 16, 2002, 08:42 AM I, too, am using your current graphics and love them. The improvements you made with this pack were stunning, to say the least.
Great job!
Snoopy Mar 17, 2002, 03:40 AM That mod is finished, think I finished it last year infact, but I am currently making a new one, so just wait for it! :crazyeye: :p   :nuke: :egypt: :scan: :king:
Black Fluffy Lion Mar 17, 2002, 06:31 AM any preview pics for us?? :D
Snoopy Mar 17, 2002, 01:23 PM I have gone over all my previous mistakes and redone a lot more of Firaxis's work, so all up its a biggy, I was hoping to finish it by today but looks like I need another week, I shouldn't have mentioned about the mod in Apolyton last week, coz I know how impatient people can get if they have to wait so long for something. But I don't mind too much, because I want to do this for my sakes anyway.
You'll notice in this screenshot that the cities are now 3x as big and have a granery, temple, library, and further down the track some cities have a cathedral, factory, manu-plant, etc etc.
If you look closely, there are people inside the cities too. =o)
Scipio Africanu Mar 17, 2002, 02:59 PM its not that people are impatiant ;) its that when they see something that makes their mouth water they want it as soon as possible. Don't mind the wait though. Looks good, it'll put a whole new face on CivIII again.
Mercenary May 02, 2002, 05:15 AM I have much enjoyed playing Civ III with Snoopy's graphics. Thanks again Snoopy.
As I stated in an earlier post however I have had many maps where a red mountain gets stuck in a grey mountain range or vise versa. I just wanted red or grey. Not both.
Well I decide that instead of complaining I would just make my own. (no offence to Snoopy intended) Judging from his new city graphics Snoopy has had better things to do:D
Here is a sample of what I've done:
C:\WINNT\Profiles\mlpascha\Desktop\sample.jpg
This file includes:
New jungle mountain.pcx with grey mountains and Snoopy style jungle
New forest mountain.pcx with grey mountains and Snoopy style pine trees
New hill jungle.pcx with original hills plus Snoopy style jungle
I have enjoy these couple cosmetic changes to Snoopy's awesome mod so I thought I would share them.

Smoking mirror May 02, 2002, 08:24 AM Looks great!
Please, please, please make a small "single" trees and jungles graphic. What I mean is that when trees or jungle are on a coast line the area of coast does not fill the entire coastal square, but the trees do. If you have a small island with trees, you can't see the ground and most of the trees look like they are floating out at sea.
I agree with what people say when they point out that your trees look better than firaxis' trees and jungle, but the firaxis trees are designed to a special shape that means they hug the coastlines properly.
If you just shape your tree groups like the coresponding firaxis tree square that sould work.
nonnob3 May 02, 2002, 10:21 AM For the Terrian and Civ 3 game graphics you are #1!
Snoopy is the best! :yeah: :D :D
