View Full Version : E3 2004...
Silverflame May 11, 2004, 03:47 PM Right now, I am so shaken up that I will post a link to one trailer, and that one trailer only.
http://media.cube.ign.com/media/572/572738/vids_1.html
It's only the pre-E3 conferences, and already Nintendo has stolen the show.
KaNick May 11, 2004, 05:03 PM :love2: :worship: :thanx:  [party] :cooool: [party]
KaNick May 11, 2004, 05:08 PM This is the way that Zelda is meant to be. Judging from the enemy design this is going to be a much more grown up Zelda game. I have never wanted a game so much. I can't even think straight, this is great.
Silverflame May 11, 2004, 05:21 PM Now I can think a bit more clearly. Too many games. Annoying thing is that everything feels anti-climatical compared to the new Zelda. If Nintendo shows off my highly anticipated Mario 128 later in the show I'll probably die from excitement.
Anyway, we've got our Nintendo DS revealed, and the Sony PSP has also been revealed. So far it looks like the DS is better, there's a touch screen, and even wireless connectivity. Personally, the PSP looks just like what I expected, but of course I'm biased. I think both games lists are about equal at this point, though.
So many games I'm getting hyped up about... I don't know how I'm going to get the money for all of this.
CivCube May 11, 2004, 06:00 PM That does it. I must purchase the GameCube while I still can.
KaNick May 11, 2004, 06:06 PM I wonder if floppa21 is regretting giving away his GameCube.
Silverflame May 11, 2004, 06:07 PM That does it. I must purchase the GameCube while I still can.
Wait, why do you say you're a Nintendo diehard again?
CivCube May 11, 2004, 06:15 PM Wait, why do you say you're a Nintendo diehard again?
I never said I wasn't, did I? I just never had initiative to get a GC until now. Besides, I still have PC games to go through...
Silverflame May 11, 2004, 06:17 PM I never said I wasn't, did I? I just never had initiative to get a GC until now. Besides, I still have PC games to go through...
Uh huh... sure.
Wait a minute, they're only $99 right now! What are you waiting for?
CivCube May 11, 2004, 06:19 PM Uh huh... sure.
Wait a minute, they're only $99 right now! What are you waiting for?
Holy crap! And the PS2 just dropped to $150, as well as the Xbox going down to $170! Whatever shall I do!
*torches the latter and gets a GCN*
Xeven the God May 11, 2004, 06:46 PM Personally, I'm more hyped for the new batch of XBOX shooters (Halo 2, Half-Life 2, and so on..).
I don't think Nintendo stole anything, really... It's another Zelda game, with almost the exact same story as the last 5... Wow, amazing. I'm excited. The only Zelda game I really liked was the NES one, and that was a time ago... The others were okay ('{somthing} of Time' on 64 was almost as good as the NES one.), except Wind Waker... *shudder* cell shading is horrible, and the game was way too easy. Why in the name of all that is good would someone willingly make a cell shaded game is beyond me... However, the effects (dust and etc) were good. The particle system in that game is good, but that wasn't enough to save it (IMO).
Anyway, I digress. I'm having trouble figuring out why Nintendo stole the show? Most of the new games at E3 look at least that good, if not better... So what's the big deal?
CivCube May 11, 2004, 07:01 PM I don't think Nintendo stole anything, really... It's another Zelda game, with almost the exact same story as the last 5... Wow, amazing. I'm excited.
You haven't played Majora's Mask, have you?
Silverflame May 11, 2004, 07:26 PM Personally, I'm more hyped for the new batch of XBOX shooters (Halo 2, Half-Life 2, and so on..).
It's just another first-person shooter, with almost the exact same gameplay as the other FPS... Wow, amazing. I'm excited. The only FPS I have ever enjoyed was Goldeneye, and that magic will never be recaptured (since the EA Bond games suck, and Rare is pretty much dead now).
Xeven the God May 11, 2004, 07:32 PM No. I never saw the need to. It never really interested me. Why, does it actually vary from the whole 'Reincarnated Link saves reincarnated Zelda from the reincarnated Gannon' theme? If it is, do tell me about it... I might play it, if I can get a hold of someone who still has a 64...
EDIT: Yeah, Silver, that probably is true... FPS do tend to be the same on the controls end of things... But if something's not broke, don't fix it. I don't care if the controls aren't different on every single FPS I play. I just care about the stories... I mean, Halo 2 and Doom 3 don't differ much, but they do differ more than most of the Zelda games.
CivCube May 11, 2004, 07:38 PM You have three days to save an alternate Hyrule from collision with a moon and stop the thing that's causing it: Majora's Mask, or rather the incarnation of an evil goddess. Along the way are a ton of side quests and masks that transform Link into various races.
Xeven the God May 11, 2004, 07:41 PM You have three days to save an alternate Hyrule from collision with a moon and stop the thing that's causing it: Majora's Mask, or rather the incarnation of an evil goddess. Along the way are a ton of side quests and masks that transform Link into various races.
Sounds interesting... I might give it a go.
Silverflame May 11, 2004, 08:03 PM EDIT: Yeah, Silver, that probably is true...
That's my point. Zelda games tend to be the same. FPS also tend to be the same.
And I think that Zelda games differ more than most FPS of the same series do. What is going to be new in Halo 2 from the first Halo? I sure don't see that many differences, just like you don't see very many differences in Zelda games. It's because we're both biased to our respective series.
To be honest, I don't know why I like Goldeneye so much, but it is the only FPS that has really appealed to me. Odd.
Anyway, the reason why this Zelda is so suprising that everyone says Nintendo has already stolen the show is because this was completely unexpected. People were throwing around their wildest speculations, but somehow everyone just assumed Nintendo would never release a more realistic and darker Zelda, and yet this was why everyone bashed the hell out of Wind Waker. That is why this trailer is so groundbreaking and amazing. I watched the Halo 2 trailer, and while I can see why all FPS fans would love it, it was pretty much what I expected. Same with Sony PSP. And as of right now those seem to be the big things Microsoft and Sony are showing at E3, so I'll say Nintendo has taken the show so far.
Toasty May 11, 2004, 08:30 PM You never know. Sega could be announcing a new console :mischief:.
Doubtful. In fact, highly unlikely. But this Zelda development does make me glad I've got a GameCube on happy :goodjob:.
WildFire May 11, 2004, 08:44 PM Goldeneye was pure genious :D
And I think you're all nuts about E3
:p (HURRY UP DAMNIT)
KaNick May 11, 2004, 08:53 PM Define Irony: FPS fan ridiculing any other game for being redundant.
;)
There are changes in Zelda games. I'll go through the list of console games. The Legend of Zelda. The first game, go through eight dungeons to collect the shards of the Triforce of wisdom.
The Legend of Link. Link goes to a distant land to a different land to find the Triforce of Courage (I think, never played it). This one differs from the last because it uses a side scrolling system for a large part of the game.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Gannon was trapped in the Sacred Realm and somehow uses the Triforce to make a wish to rule over Hyrule. Instead of being brought back to the real Hyrule a dark mirror image of it is made for him to rule in the once Sacred Realm. This one differs from the others because Link travels to two different versions of Hyrule the dark and regular.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The very first in chronological order. Hyrule is at war and Links mother takes him to Koriki forest after being injured and at her last leg. The Deku tree allows Link to be raised in the forest. Years later Ganon starts up some troble and tricks Link so that he may gain control of the Triforce. Ganon is not in balance so he only retains the Triforce of Power, the other two going to Link with Courage and to Zelda with Wisdom. Link wakes seven years later and has to awaken the seven sages in order to seal Ganon in the Sacred Realm. This differs from the others because it is huge and was the first Zelda game to go 3D.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Link is looking for adventure after Ocarina of Time and finds his way to Termia, a parrallel land of Hyrule. The rest of the story is above. This one differs from the others in that it has a mask system and a three day time system.
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. Ganon returns and the gods flood hyrule in order to seal him away. Later Ganon returns again, but this time Link is able to stop him sealing him away with the master sword. This one differs from the others because the main mode of travel is sailing.
Obviously any series of games end up being similar, it wouldn't be a series if they didn't. The Zelda series, above most others, manages to stay fresh. Whether it is graphics or gameplay almost every major console game is different than the last and is well worth playing.
Dr. Yoshi May 11, 2004, 08:57 PM With a new Advance Wars, the new Zelda, and Metroid Prime 2, Nintendo might be able to reclaim the No. 2 spot. The Nintendo DS looks much more portable than the PSP, which looked like it was larger than the length of my forearm, and portability certainly does matter with a portable.
Xeven the God May 11, 2004, 09:14 PM Okay, thanks for answering my question, Silverflame. It makes more sense now.
Anyway, I guess it boils down to a matter of opinions when people start to talk about 'great' games. Obviously, I should never have posted in this thread. We could talk until we're blue in the face and not change each other's minds... I don't really like most of the Zelda games, and you don't like most FPS... I say we leave it at that.
Define Irony: FPS fan ridiculing any other game for being redundant.
Just for the record: I'm an RPG fanboy. I'm just interested in the new XBOX FPS's. Want to talk about how un-redundant Dungeons & Dragons is?
Silverflame May 11, 2004, 10:00 PM You never know. Sega could be announcing a new console :mischief:.
Doubtful. In fact, highly unlikely. But this Zelda development does make me glad I've got a GameCube on happy :goodjob:.
Sega does have that "big" announcement they're going to reveal either tomorrow or the day after. I think they still lack the money for a new console. Instead, I heard a very unlikely yet very hopeful rumor that Sega might merge with one of the companies for the nextgen... no prizes for guessing who I hope it will be... :mischief:
Goldeneye was pure genious :D
And I think you're all nuts about E3
:p (HURRY UP DAMNIT)
Tell me something I don't know. :p

Hey, you forgot all the odd ones. I never played Adventure of Link, but everyone says it's the "black sheep" of the Zelda series. Link's Awakening is different, no Ganon, no Zelda, no Triforce, no Hyrule, just Link stranded on a crazy island with crazy people and crazy items (he can JUMP!). The the Oracle Series were also a little different, Ganon doesn't appear until the very end if you link up both games.
Okay, thanks for answering my question, Silverflame. It makes more sense now.

Of course you should have posted in this thread. I like hearing other people opinions and arguing about them, however pointlessly. People at GameFAQs won't listen, no matter what, so I like to argue pointlessly over here. :p
As a side note, wow the "Quote=(username)" is so much more useful than writing it by scratch back before we were graced with vB 3.0 :)
KaNick May 12, 2004, 02:24 AM I only mentioned the Console games, I left out the gameboy versions because I never played them. I should pick them up before they become impossible to find.
NetGear May 12, 2004, 03:57 PM I heard about the new console rumor too. It might be possible but highly unlikely.

Silverflame May 12, 2004, 06:13 PM Well, looks like Sega's big announcement was...
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
... actually, no one really knows. All we're getting is rumors. Phantasy Star Universe (some MMORPG) seems most likely, or this Matrix online thing. Actually, I think "Matrix online" is the big announcement. How boring. *YAWN*
Xeven the God May 12, 2004, 07:18 PM ... "Matrix online" is the big announcement. How boring. *YAWN*
I agree. The Matrix games suck, IMHO.
So did Reloaded and Revolutions... Stupid Wachowski brothers turning their A-movie (The Matrix) into a B-series and cashing in on 'Matrix Mania'... God I hate everything that has to do with them, even the crappy Matrix games. They ruined something grand...
Hmm... Seems like I'm putting down everything in this thread, huh? Well, I guess I'll have to say something nice:
The DS does definitely look better than the PSP. Smaller, easier to port around, etc... But why is Nintendo realeasing another handheld so early? The Advance SP was only, what, a year ago? On the other hand, I don't even know why Sony is going in on the handheld business... That's one flop I'll avoid. Even I will admit that no one can beat 'tendo on the handheld end of things. You just can't... That's why the NeoGeo and the GameGear were flops...

You shouldn't hate EVERYTHING to do with the Matrix. Go watch The Matrix has You at www.legendaryfrog.com and try and tell me you don't like it. And watch all of Legendary Frog's movies while you're at it.

Actually I think the PSP looks better than the DS in terms of looks and specs, but that's it. And I think Sony believes this will be a PSOne v. N64 battle... it's quite funny, actually.
Xeven the God May 12, 2004, 07:45 PM You shouldn't hate EVERYTHING to do with the Matrix. Go watch The Matrix has You at www.legendaryfrog.com and try and tell me you don't like it. And watch all of Legendary Frog's movies while you're at it.
I like the first movie... But that's it. I pretend the other two don't exist... I'll check out your link ( ;) ), though.
Actually I think the PSP looks better than the DS in terms of looks and specs, but that's it. And I think Sony believes this will be a PSOne v. N64 battle... it's quite funny, actually.
But it's bigger. Why would you want something bigger? I don't want a powerful handheld... That's not the damned point. It's supposed to be small... I don't want something... Oh, how did Dr. Yoshi put it ... 'the length of my forearm'. Ick. There's no way one would sneak that into class...

The PSP is bigger in size than the DS? Somehow I was under the impression that it was the other way around... although it does explain the extra price tag on the PSP (PSP is estimated at $250 while DS at $150, I *think*), and the shorter battery life (anywhere between 2.5-10 hours the Sony CEO said, I'm not kidding).
The DS looks revolutionary with a bunch of ports. The PSP looks typical with a bunch of ports. So far, I think the DS is beating the snot out of the PSP, although it still is too early to tell.
KaNick May 12, 2004, 11:07 PM Has E3 started already? I didn't think it was suppose to start until tomorrow (today in my timezone).
Silverflame May 12, 2004, 11:11 PM Has E3 started already? I didn't think it was suppose to start until tomorrow (today in my timezone).
Don't know what timezone or side of the Earth you live in, so it's May 12-14.
EDIT: Oh, I didn't look at your location box. Ha, silly me. Wait... you live in Nebraska?!? :p
Thrawn May 12, 2004, 11:21 PM Going by looks only, (I haven't seen the specs), I like the psp better.

Don't make fun :p It's the Thirteenth here.
Silverflame May 12, 2004, 11:57 PM Don't make fun :p It's the Thirteenth here.
Silly non-West-coasteners. Life there must be difficult without Fry's Electronics and In-n-out. :p
KaNick May 13, 2004, 01:35 AM The Nintendo DS looks much more portable than the PSP, which looked like it was larger than the length of my forearm...
You must have a sort forearm.
http://pspmedia.ign.com/psp/image/psphandson_051204_299.jpg
It only looks slightly larger than the original GBA.
Toasty May 13, 2004, 02:47 PM The PSP is the sexiest thing I've seen since the iPod mini.
KaNick May 13, 2004, 06:27 PM Especially if those are the actual graphics that come with it.
Xeven the God May 13, 2004, 06:27 PM Okay... I have some advice for you guys: Never assume. It makes an ass out of you and me.
I was told the PSP was bigger than the DS, and since the 'tendo handhelds have been getting smaller I assumed that the PSP was much bigger... I guess not...
:o
However, I still think 'tendo will win the handheld war. You can't beat them there. It's not possible. The DS will own the PSP. Mark my words.
PS: Yes. Sexy indeed. I still don't think I'll get one... but who knows..
cgannon64 May 13, 2004, 06:38 PM Can I watch that Zelda video without paying .082 cents a day or whatever to some stupid gaming website?
Xeven the God May 13, 2004, 06:38 PM Hmm... I was checking out the DS and PSP on ign... The DS and PSP are about the same size when the DS is folded. However, when the DS unfolds it becomes twice the size of the PSP. I suppose that could be good or bad, depending on when and where one wants to play it.
As far as inovation goes, 'tendo has Sony beat. And I mean an ass-whuppin'. The DS has two screens, voice recognition, connectivity with 'tendo's other stuff, and the entire Game Boy library (due to backwards compatability). What's PSP got? Disks. Tiny ones.
Like I said, an ass-whuppin'...
CivCube May 13, 2004, 06:46 PM Can I watch that Zelda video without paying .082 cents a day or whatever to some stupid gaming website?
The link is free.
KaNick May 13, 2004, 07:13 PM You can watch it, just not the large version. I had troubles playing it so I ended up just downloading it.
Archer 007 May 13, 2004, 07:23 PM With a new Advance Wars, the new Zelda, and Metroid Prime 2, Nintendo might be able to reclaim the No. 2 spot.
Reclaim? Nintendo is number 2 in worldwide sales.
CivCube May 13, 2004, 07:45 PM You can watch it, just not the large version. I had troubles playing it so I ended up just downloading it.
You can see the large version on Nintendo's official site for free, just without the epic music.

Somewhere over there... and free.
cgannon64 May 13, 2004, 07:49 PM You can watch it, just not the large version. I had troubles playing it so I ended up just downloading it.
But why have a cable connection unless I can uselessly clutter it up!
OK, I'll watch the free large on on the Nintendo website.
Silverflame May 13, 2004, 07:50 PM You can watch it, just not the large version. I had troubles playing it so I ended up just downloading it.
Is there any point of NOT downloading it? I've watched the trailer like 15 times now. Still not enough, I better see it again...
I also watched a video clip with the actual E3 crowd and their reaction. Wow... that's all I can say.
Silverflame May 13, 2004, 07:51 PM But why have a cable connection unless I can uselessly clutter it up!

NO! You need the music! Go to Gametrailers.com and watch it. ;)
CivCube May 13, 2004, 08:02 PM Where's the audience reaction? I want to see that.
Silverflame May 13, 2004, 08:03 PM Where's the audience reaction? I want to see that.
Agh, I lost the link... I can look for it, but that will take a few minutes.
*runs off to GameFAQs*
EDIT: Aha! I think this is it: http://www.vgpub.com/feature15.html
CivCube May 13, 2004, 08:09 PM That was great. Thanks for the link. :goodjob:
Dr. Yoshi May 13, 2004, 10:26 PM Hmm, maybe the video I saw was an enlarged one. I swear that the PSP was bigger than the waist of the lady holding it and she did not have an anorexically tiny waist in the video I saw.
And I believe that Nintendo took number three during this year's holiday season, that maybe how I made that mistake.
Silverflame May 13, 2004, 10:45 PM And I believe that Nintendo took number three during this year's holiday season, that maybe how I made that mistake.
Xbox and Gamecube sales were about tied, and only because there was a shortage of Gamecubes during the holiday season.
Silverflame May 14, 2004, 08:10 PM This is so not fair:

Nintendo disallowed any cameras and/or microphones into the room. I don't think this trailer will be leaked until Spaceworld, provided they don't cancel it again... they better not. I want to see my Mario 128!
Dabomb18359 May 15, 2004, 10:15 AM Will Nintendo offer free Wi-Fi? you probably have to pay for wireless connectivety right?
Silverflame May 15, 2004, 10:16 AM Will Nintendo offer free Wi-Fi? you probably have to pay for wireless connectivety right?
It seems right that you would have to pay for the Wi-Fi, but Nintendo hates making people pay more money just to fully experience the game so I don't know.
Dabomb18359 May 15, 2004, 10:20 AM K what system is that Zelda game videod above for? DS or GC? I mean DS seems rightly so, but those graphics look only GC worthy?

Eh... if it was on DS, I would literally cry. Of course it will be on the Gamecube.
