ainwood Jun 21, 2004, 04:00 PM Take a look at who has what resources. IIRC, the purple have iron only by trade. Maybe they might be a good target?
Are we going for as fast a domination as possible, or are we going to just get to the limit then decide the actual victory condition?
a space oddity Jun 21, 2004, 04:04 PM ...Are we going for as fast a domination as possible, or are we going to just get to the limit then decide the actual victory condition?
Well, I've heard rumours we can expect a new game rather soon sooo... I guess I'm for quick domination. I admit that it could also have to do with the milking I did in the COTM... :cringe:
zagnut Jun 21, 2004, 05:46 PM I think we should go for domination. It is an awfully long way from 850 to 2050 and I haven't even started GOTM 32 yet!
zagnut Jun 21, 2004, 09:21 PM Take game. Increase science to 30%. Chemistry in 8 turns instead of 13. Still +14 gold.
Put entertainers back to work in 11 towns. The peace you earned is paying great dividends!
IT - zzz
860 - Destroy Fukushima on north island. Send Settler to rebuild. Make peace with Japan. They give 9 gpt and WM. Apparently the other civs traded Astronomy on that turn because they all now have it.
Found Ainwood by the Sea on the SE coast. Move most of the miscellaneous Knight hanging around the interior of the continent toward Hastings.
We have 8 Settlers and 7 more under construction. I switch some of them to other things.
IT - Our Palace expands.
870 - Found Karasu by the Sea on the west coast and Space by the Sea on the east coast. Also trying to connect all the misc. towns to our road network.
IT - zzz
880 - Just move units. India has a monopoly on Banking and will not trade.
IT - Wuppertal needs a taxman to keep it happy.
890- turn 4 - Found Zagnut by the Sea on the NE island. A quiet place to vacation, but not the best weather.
IT - zzz
900 - Discover Leonardo’s Workshop. We enter a Golden Age!!!! Rush a Harbor in Hastings for 104 gold so that we can upgrade the Galleys to Caravels.
IT - Chinese complete Copernicus. I wonder if they were very close to getting Leo's and just cascaded to Copernicus. Improve the Palace.
910 - turn 6 - Upgrade the first Galley to Caravel. Only costs 10 gold. Just move units around.
IT - Chinese want to trade maps. I accept. We discover Chemistry.
920 - turn 7 - Rush build about 6 or 7 Libraries in coastal cities where the cost was not too high. India will trade Banking and gpt for Chemistry. But I don’t think we need Banking and they may benefit more from the trade than we will. Therefore, I decide to pass on the trade and let ainwood decide.
IT - Palace expands again.
930 - turn 8 - Build Swordsmen in the corrupt towns that recently built Libraries in order to provide some defense for the home continent when most of the Knights go overseas.
IT - zzzz
940 - Just moving units.
IT - zzzz
950 - There are now 25 Knights and an Army at Hastings. Unfortunately, there are only 3 Caravels currently waiting. All of the other Caravels and Galleys are on the way to Hastings. The Galleys can be upgraded in the Hastings harbor. There are several miscellaneous units, mostly Elite, on the square N of Hastings. Settlers are on the hill to the east and Catapults are in Dover waiting to be upgraded to Cannon. Many other Knights are on automatic travel to Hastings.
Various other Knights are fortified in widely spaced towns around the coast so that they can reach just about any nearby town in one turn if the AI is presumptuous enough to try to invade.
Metallurgy will be discovered in one turn. Since we are in our Golden Age we will probably discover Military Tradition in 5 turns. It will take at least that many turns to get a goodly number of Caravels in position to transport most of the Knights. Perhaps it would be wise to wait until we can upgrade our Knights to Cavalry since we are so close.
Most of the Workers are on auto.
About 7 towns around the coast will expand their cultural boundaries next turn so run MapStat after that instead of when you get the game.
India will trade World Maps if you want to see what they have.
Good luck and I doubt whether I will get another turn in this game.
The saved game is here: http://gotm.civfanatics.net/saves/sgotm2/STAFF_SG002_AD0950_01.SAV (I can never remember the tags needed to abbreviate the link. They used to be on the reply page but I can't find them since the site was upgraded. Can anybody direct me to where they are now?)
ainwood Jun 21, 2004, 09:59 PM Looks good, Zagnut. I'll have a more detailed look later. re links:
Text to display
where linktofile is the actual hyperlink location bit.
Karasu Jun 22, 2004, 04:33 AM Nicely set up, zagnut.
And I think you're right about waiting for MT.
a space oddity Jun 23, 2004, 01:23 PM We do look good, well played Zagnut! I think China is the best one to pick to attack. Lat's sign the others in too, just for distraction. If we bring enough settlers we can fill up the free land that will emerge when we and maybe india start claiming the cities. Mapstat now gives 32 pop and 216 tiles to go, so that's even without the expected expansions. And let's use some of the money to rush more of the libraries in the formerly English cities.
ainwood Jun 23, 2004, 04:14 PM I'll try to play tonight, but more likely it will be about this time tomorrow. :) Keep the ideas rolling!
ainwood Jun 24, 2004, 05:44 PM >> THE SAVE << (http://gotm.civfanatics.net/saves/sgotm2/STAFF_SG002_AD1050_01.SAV)
As found:
Instructions are really easy => get to the dom limit ASAP! :D
Decide to rush a few libraries: Newcastle, Everybody has the blues, Hastings, Rouen, Landgrabbers, vladivostok, New Zealand (can't possibly let that place stay illiterate ;)), Suo, Alaskan Nightmare and Zagnut By The Sea.
I note that India has one source of iron, and its surrounded by China! I hatch a little plan and decide that it will be quite easy to cut-off. Contriving a war between india and china will mean that the iron is cut off, and the first city to be razed gives us a beach head. Unfortunately, China won't go for it, and we can't fudge it via a MPP either.
IT: Get metallurgy, and switch to MT. Adjust tax up a nothc to get it in 4.
Leipzig: Swordsman => Settler
Hastings library => Barracks (upgrades)
Newcastle library => caravel
Rouen library => caravel
Vladivostok library => harbour
Suo library => worker
Land grabber library => Knight
Everybody has the blues library => carvale
Alaskannightmare library => Harbour
ZagnutByTheSea library = Harbour
New Zealand library harbour
Turn 1: 960 AD
Move some units around.
Sell chemistry to China for 8 GPT and to India for 37 GPT (they won't sell banking). This allows the slight loss per turn to get MT in 4 to be offset.
IT
StPetersburg Marketplace => settler
Turn 2: 970 AD
mapstat shows we're 193 from domination, with 145 not claimed!
Lots of people unhappyn in London, so I switch from knight to marketplace. Ditto moscow, newcastle and novgorod.
IT
Japan start magellans! The other continent have Navigation.
Turn 3: 980 AD:
Metalurgy to China for silks, navigation, 40 gold & 12 GPT
Swap 3 lux + metallurgy with Japan for wines.
IT
Celebrations all round!
Turn 4: 990 AD:
Gone from 346 happy / 43 content / 96 sad to 410 / 37 / 48, and we are now only 130 fromthe dom limit.
Rush barracks in hastings in prep for MT next turn. Bizzare - i drop tax to zero and hire one solitary scientist, and we'll still have MT next turn. Should have tried that last run.... +513 GPT now. :)
IT
Get MT, switch to physics at 40 turns
Peopl want to buld the military academy.
Berlin barracks = > Mil Acad.
Hastings barrack marketplace
Turn 5: 1000 AD
Upgrade around 40 vet knights to cav.
IT
Turn 6: 1100 AD.
Load up, and set sail! :D
IT
Turn 7: 1020 AD:
Declare war on India. Its surprisingly easy to get china and japan to agree -> furs and ivory respectively!
Land in india => they only have spearmen! Sign a ROP with China, to help a bit.
IT
Beijing completes sistines.
Turn 8:
Get a great leader with first attack!
2 x Vet cav goes elite, and lahore is ours. Use Hengest to hurry magellans.
Take madras for no loss, jaipur for no loss.
IT
Lose a cavalry to a war elelphant, but india only makes two attacks.
Turn 9: 1040 AD
Complete magellans
Delhi defended by 2 musketmen and a war elephant, but it falls with no losses.
Lose two cavalry and a third damaged trying to beat a single war elephant!
IT
Lose two cav to longbowmen
Madras flips!
Turn 10: 1050 AD
retake Madras.
Capture calcutta for no loss.
Take Bangalore for no loss.
Foudn New Berlin!
Need to attack with a 1hp caav on a one hp longbowman to take Karachi, but we do ti.
Unload another 30 cav, and set some knights for a ROP rape on china. I think that that will be the fastest way to close-out the game. Cavalry can be positioned as far afield as tatung, and still attack. I think with a bit of planning, we can take Macao, Tsingtao, tatung, Canton and bangalore next turn. Would have to take out a couple of riders, or we will lose a coupld of undefended cities. We are abour 50 from teh dom limit, so we shuold be able to close the game out in two turns.
zagnut Jun 25, 2004, 12:10 AM Terrific work, ainwood. In 10 turns you have just about finished the game for us! :goodjob:
a space oddity Jun 25, 2004, 03:00 AM [dance] Well done, Ainwood!
edit: what a time for the server to go down... :(
Karasu Jun 25, 2004, 03:04 AM :yeah: The game is over, mates...
@Ainwood, it looks like we can reach the limit next turn: You should take it and close the game for good (and write something for the final spoiler maybe? :D )
a space oddity Jun 25, 2004, 03:06 AM I concur. (blah blah 10 chars blah)
zagnut Jun 25, 2004, 07:33 AM Finish it off ainwood. You have a plan and the current knowledge of the war, so I think it is appropriate that you finish the game for the team.
I will be away until June 28. Hopefully by then we will have achieved a brilliant victory.
ainwood Jun 25, 2004, 08:07 PM OK guys. I'll try to do that. Gotta get COTM2 pre-game going first though. :)
Karasu Jul 01, 2004, 04:43 AM :bump: (I love this smiley :D ).
Anyway, now that COTM2 is out -and you had your share of fun tormenting the poor civvers in the pre-game thread... ;)
ainwood Jul 01, 2004, 04:49 AM Well, seeing as no-one has picked it up and finished it....
If someone wants to, then go for it. Otherwise I'll play tomorrow (About 12 hours from now). :)
Karasu Jul 01, 2004, 05:35 AM I still believe that you deserve to close the game, and I'm more than happy to wait for another day :)
I. Larkin Jul 01, 2004, 10:34 AM Congratulation in advance for good win.
I put some fine LogPlots in Spoiler 2, this is analysis of Fraxis data. Could you also produse the same table for Jason? Also, if you know exact formula for early win bonus (Fraxis and Jason) I can put it in my plots as well. Regards, Ivan.
ainwood Jul 01, 2004, 05:49 PM IT:
Chna destroys some indians.
Dehli flips.
Turn 11: 1060AD:
Retake Dehli.
Set up for ROP abuse. Set stack of units next to Macao, Tsingtao, tatung, Shanghai, canton
IT:
Tokugawa wants to extend peace. Agreed. Swap him mt for music theory.
Check says we need 39 tiles to win.
Turn 12: 1070AD
Make peace with india. Final touches on ROP set-up.
Decalre war on china!
Macao taken (finishing with elite horseman beating reg. spear ;))
Lose one cav taking Tsingtao, but Copernicus' is ours.
Tatung Taken.
Chengdu taken (two elite knights beat two musketmen)
Shanghai taken (no losses)
UNBELIEVABLE! Lose 3 cavalry to spearman in trying (unsuccessfuly) take Beijing!
Canton taken, no losses.
Mop-up various chinese units spread about.
Lose cav in taking tietsin
Get a GL mopping up more units. Use him to rush Bachs.
Mop a a few more units. Add workers to cities where possible. Fortify as many units in cities as possible. We are 34 tiles over the dom limit... hit enter.
mad-bax Jul 02, 2004, 12:21 AM Very nice, and a very good target to aim at. Well done everybody.
a space oddity Jul 02, 2004, 12:27 AM [dance]
Nicely done, Ainwood! All that happiness targetting payed off, we beat the number 2 score by 11 points! :thumbsup:
Karasu Jul 02, 2004, 03:16 AM Great game, mates! :thumbsup: It was almost too easy, though... :mischief:
And, Mad, what do you mean with our being a "very good target?" :dubious:
zagnut Jul 02, 2004, 10:52 AM Congratulations, to all of you for doing so well. I was privileged to be a part of a very good team. Plus, it was great fun.
ainwood Jul 02, 2004, 08:23 PM Seconded, Zagnut. A good team game! :D
