View Full Version : City Graphics: FF X/Mideast
Hikaro Takayama May 22, 2004, 04:50 AM Well, when I added the FF X civilizations (Yevon and Al Bhed) to the game, I decided to use Mideastern style cities for them, since their archietecture and cultures were based on a general middle-eastern theme (Al Bhed seems to take the role of Israel: a small, highly advanced country that nobody likes :p).
I've downloaded mrtn's oriental cities, the Great Lost Civilizations Roman and Egyptian cities, Arbitrary Guy's Bronze age and Arabian cities, and alireza1345's CTP Mideastern city conversions, and none of them seemed to quite have the right "feel" for what I wanted.
Therefore, I loaded ALL of them up into PSP 7, fired up my lasso tool, and when the dust settled, I had some cities that work well in the game, with minimal overlap with roads and such. The graphics would also work quite well as replacements for the standard mideastern cities in the epic game, IMHO. The city graphics and two previews are included at the end of this post. Note: These cities ARE fully era specific (and took about 10 hours to make)
EDIT: I've also made a version with trees (http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=55549) to go with GI_dustin's Lush city graphics. The preview is on post #14
Colonel Kraken May 22, 2004, 08:01 AM Ha, ha! I spy Pharaoh city graphics. Great job. :goodjob:

Thanks for the compliment. As for the Pharoh(tm) graphics, I think I remember reading in the Great Lost Civilizations Mod thread that the creators used graphics from Pharoh for their Egyptian cities, which I used heavily for smaller/filler buildings, and Ceaser III for their Roman cities, from which I also used some graphics for flavor, therfore you might be able to recognize some CeaserIII graphics as well.;)

Unfortunately, it is not. It's my Chocobo strategic resource icon, which I converted from a FFT screenshot I got from www.ffonline.com . I wish someone would create a series of chocobo units (or if someone creates a model, I could import it into Poser 5 and take a whack at it myself).
Also, on another note, does anyone know who did the CTP city conversions, since I can't remember, and several hours spent wading through 10+ pages of posts on this forum (while ignoring death threats/pleas for mercy from my internet connection) I still couldn't turn up anything. I want to know this so that I may properly credit this contributor.
Ichitaka May 22, 2004, 03:26 PM In the screenshot, the sea has a dragon and a fish, sory for mi english, but where can i download this?

R8XFT May 23, 2004, 01:21 AM Really good :goodjob: !!

Gogf May 23, 2004, 04:30 PM Go here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=53819), and down the file.
Hikaro Takayama May 24, 2004, 12:39 AM Thanks for all the input/compliments. I'd have responded sooner, except that my Internet connection was down last night.

Well, the Sea Serpent was created a while back by Arne, The title of the thread is "Resources for Fantasy scenarios" or something like that. It's in this forum somewhere, but you'll have to do some digging :crazyeye: .
The fish are a straight conversion from CivII Test of Time, and can be found in Cassus Belli's HUGE resource compendium, which can be located in one of the graphichs library sticky threads at the top of the page.

I wish I could, Mallek but I don't even OWN FF XI (I live on a ship and don't have my own place to install the requisite hi-speed modem or store my uber-powerful scratch-built desktop that can actually run the game. :() And as for Poser 5, it is a 3d animation program that's used for animating charachter models. The only problem I have is that the program...... runs...... like........ this........... on my laptop, so I haven't been able to use it for serious unit creation.
And last but not least, for those of you who like the lush city graphics, I decided to add some trees (courtesey of AoK) to the graphics, and from what I've seen they look fine in the game.
Mallek May 24, 2004, 01:18 AM @Hikaro you live on a BOAT? that's insane what your house sinks.
Anyway your city graphics look even better with trees, Good Job. :goodjob:

Thanks :D They don't look to shabby in the game either.
BTW, I'm in the US Navy, it'd make even less sense if I didn't live on a boat. :p To be specific, I live on an amphibious assault ship, which means I also have to deal with a bunch of Marines whenever we go out to sea. Besides, I'm basic damage control/firefighter qualified, so I'm not too concerned about the ship sinking. ;)
LBPB May 24, 2004, 02:59 AM That's a nice work you've done with the differents graphics ! :goodjob:

Thanks, but I couldn't have done it without your Great Lost Civs Mod's cities, since the Egyptian (and to a lesser extent Roman) cities provided most of the filler and cosmetic buildings (I especially liked the big temples since they reminded me of some of the temples in FF X). So once again, let me say :thanx:
alireza1354 Jun 03, 2004, 02:13 PM Terrific Cities
bombshoo Jun 05, 2004, 06:27 PM They would also work very nice as Central Asian cities. Thanx
