Is there on this forum or somewhere else a freeware to view .flc-files that Civ3 uses? I used to use PSP Animation Shop, but it expired :(

Thanks

XNview (http://perso.wanadoo.fr/pierre.g/) opens .flc files.

It's a little clumsy when compared to Animation Shop but it does its job. I couldn't find a way of viewing the .flc as an animation - I had to scroll through frames manually (shift+pagedown/pageup) but it did display them correctly. Another program I tried, Animake was in german and didn't display the flics correctly.

Don't try "export all" under "view->page" though. At least on my computer it caused the program to stop responding as it tried to open all frames of the flic to a new sub-window.

XNview works fine, but another question:

How can I get the .flc files to open automatically in XNview instead of Animation Shop?

Open Windows Explorer (not the Internet Explorer), choose "tools->folder options", choose "file types" and scroll to FLC files. Click "change" and choose new program for the file type (you'll probably need to browse for it.).

I'm assuming you use Windows XP but the procedure should be about the same with Win98.

Edit: or more easily, right-click a .flc, choose "open with->choose program", check "always use this proram..." and browse for XNview.

FLICster...

...doesn't open regular flics - just unit flics.

I wrote a program to view civ3 flcs, as I wanted to create a better FLICSter, but I could never find out how to save Flc files.

Why not just use FLICSter to view the flc?

For some reason my quicktime open flics to view. It even animates them. I don't know why though because none of my friends can get their quicktime to do it.

You have to have the newest version of QuickTime with all of the upgrades and patches I think.

I see. That would make sence. I always update everything I have, while my friends are too lazy to do that.

I can't edit them, just view. They play and I can slide the button back and forth and pause to look at everything, but no editing.

Hey will gmax 1.2 work for editing and creating civ3 units?
this is just a little off topic.
